.....and we love it! My DH put it together & steam cleaned our formal diningroom carpeting while I was getting my hair cut & colored .....ahh.... I mean cut & styled, :o and boy does it look great! My neighbor paid nearly $100 this time to have some rooms in her home steam cleaned & we spent $199 & we'll be doing all the rooms (slowly) & it's ours to keep! If we need to just spruce up one room, we can now, anytime!

Does anyone else have one? Do you use it often? We bought a Bissell, what type do you have?

Yep...have a Bissell also.
This is our second one.
I love being able to get it out and do little jobs as needed (like the dead mouse in DD's room  .......had to clean the rug after the body was "disposed of" )

What do you do to make sure that the carpet pad actually dries and no mold grows underneath?

How well do these machines do with pet stains?

Which is the best to buy and where is the best place to buy it?

Thanks.

I'm not sure about the mold question.....yikes....hope that doesn't happen to ours! But the carpeting was not soaked or anything. I rubbed by hand over it after it was done & it just felt a slight bit damp, so hopefully it didn't soak all the way down under the padding. The steam cleaner pulls the water back up anyway, and boy was it DIRTY!

We got ours at Costco but I've seen them at Sam's Club & Target. Costco had the best deal though. It's a Bissell & it comes with cleaner solution too.

Couldn't answer your question about pet stains since the only pets we have are our 8 y/o son & 21 month old son! ;)

Thanks for the info I am looking to get one myself.;)

My DH is doing the family room now with the new family member  , you know the new Steam Cleaner! :) It's great! I just tried it myself & it's fairly light (me being spoiled since we have a self propelled vacuum cleaner) & you can see it soaking up the water, as well as the dirty water building up in the tank. The Steam Cleaner has a heater in it too, so it is drying up the steam, as it goes along picking up any excess water. Smells great too!

Can you tell I don't have much of a life anymore since I'm so excited about this steam cleaner?? :o

We have the Hoover and have had it for 7 yrs since 1st dogger was a pup. I love it and use it quite frequently. Unless you leave the cleaner in one spot with the trigger pressed for ages, you shouldn't have to worry about the padding getting soaked. I generally go over the carpet several times to make sure I have all the water up and the regular carpet is usually dry in 2 hours. The berber carpet in our family room takes longer to dry and is harder to clean. Boy, did I learn my lesson, it looks great but is a pain to clean! :o Anyway, buying the steamer was a great idea and has saved us tons of money in cleaning fees over the years.

A couple of things I've learned in my time in the flooring industry --

I've heard the same thing Mrsv98 said about berber carpet. Pretty much any looped carpet will take a little more time and effort to get dry than a cut pile. It's just the nature of the loops to trap in the moisture.

Also, check your warranty information. Most carpet manufacturers have a clause in the warranty brochures that the carpet should be professionally cleaned every 12-24 months for the warranty to be valid. I'm getting ready to leave for work, but I'll double check various brochures on that wording. Having this documentation will definitely help you in the long run should you have a problem with a spot not coming out of the carpet. The claims departments will definitely want that professional documentation.

I've been wanting one for years. I'll keep track of this thread so I can learn more. :)

Well, our family room came out great! We had formula spots from when our 21 month old was a baby which came out like a dream! We had milk, cranberry juice & orange juice spills (& coffee too :o ). I really thought the formula stains would be there for good but they came out. The whole house smells good too from the cleaner. I wish we had gotten one a long time ago but I was afraid it wouldn't clean up the "spots" we had. Of course, as soon as we spilled something, we always sprayed some Resolve Carpet Cleaner or Fantastik or just club soda on it & wiped it up as best we could....so possibly that helped.

Okay, I need a life now so I'm through posting about my wonderful new Bissell Carpet Steamer!
