Hi,
We booked our Disney Cruise through Costco Travel. I don't know if this is good thing or bad thing (although they gave us a good price. They said they have a contract with Disney and have no commission)?

Anyway, my question is, any idea when (approximately obviously) we will find out what cabin we will get? Our cruise is May 28th out of Los Angeles to Mexico. Will we find out differently because we booked with Costco travel versus Disney directly? Oh, and we booked a Catagory 10 Guarantee (so no cabin given).

Thanks!!
Sue

We have now booked two cruises with Costco, and have been very happy with their price and service. No complaints here! I don't think that by booking with Costco (or any TA for that matter) makes a difference on when you find out your cabin number with a GTY. As far as when that would be, I don't know - we've always had an assigned cabin.

You usually are assigned your cabin when you make your reservation. That way they know exactly what is sold and not. I would call and find out. Even Expedia and the like assign your cabin when you make your ressie.

It is possible to book a category on a "guarantee" status when most all of the rooms in that category have been assigned, but there are other, higher category rooms still available on the ship. What it means is that you are "guaranteed" a cabin (not a specific cabin number) in that category or better. The cruise line is banking on the fact that someone who is holding a cabin in that category will cancel. There may be passengers who have reservations on hold but not deposited. If that is the case, the line will still sell rooms in that category assuming that one will open up. If not, they will put you in a better category cabin that is available. The risk is that you may get a stateroom in your assigned category that may not be the most desirable.

Hope this clears things up for you.

You booked a GTY - guarantee, you are guaranteed a cat 10 or higher, you may not find out your cabin until you get to the pier, or when you receive your docs, there is a good chance you may be upgraded. We have always done GTY on Carnival, never found out our cabins until at the port. also never got an upgrade!!!! :badpc:

Sue,
Don't have an answer about the cabin number but I had originally booked our cruise through the Disney website and then read on this forum that Costco possibly had lower rates. Well I called Costco and for 15 minutes of my time (on the phone) I was able to save $110. We had chosen our cabin already (one of the secret porthole rooms) when I booked with Disney online and I was able to keep the same cabin # when we transferred the reservation.

Thanks for the messages. So should we receive our documents from Costco or Disney directly?

So if we receive our cabin number at the pier, do you just check in at the pier and they hand you documents?

We saved quite a bit going through Costco and I just couldn't pass the offer by. We really wanted the May 28th cruise and the GTY was the only way to get the Cat 10. All Cat. 10 assigned rooms were sold out so we will see what happens. I went on one Carnival cruise in 1989 and two RCC in the 1990's, I think we always received an upgrade.

I'm okay either way this time as an inside cabin will probably be easier for our toddler to nap during the day.

suesings.....even though you may not find out your cabin number until you check in, you will still receive your documents before hand in the mail. Usually they will come from the TA's office. Most likely you cabin number will be listed in your documents when they arrive, but sometimes they say that you will find at at checkin.

Another thing....we have had GTY's several times and a few times we have been upgraded, but the times we were not we never had a a "less desirable" room. all our cabins have been great!!!
