We are switching to DSL

Our cable bill jumped over $40 a month because a special promotion we've had for 2 years expired...that, and the competition is no longer available (adelphia). After pricing what we'd pay to get rid of the cable box w/ DVR, I discovered that if I got rid of my cable modem the bill would go back down to where it was. So I'm paying over $40 a month for a cable modem when I could pay $12.99 a month for DSL?
Another benefit was I had to switch to a "package" with long distance to get the DSL--but it's cheaper that way than the way I was paying! And of course factor in the $15 a month I'm no longer paying AOL.
DH can rewire our old phone jack in the office (it was another line at one time--thank goodness he used to work at Radio Shack back in the day!) and we can do the installation--even if not, our computer genius neighbor is still home from college until the 28th. He said DSL is a little slower but it is so much cheaper.
We won't have internet for a week--but I can go to my mom's and check our EMail--and the DIS, a little. The lack of internet will bother DD#1(14) more than me!

I made the switch to DSL a couple years back and will never go back to cable. Unless you are downloading large files all the time, you probably won't notice the difference. However with the $12.99 package you are getting the lowest DSL speed. I'm on the $29.99 package that is faster.

It was a matter of paying cable $45 or DSL $30. I took DSL and said bye bye to cable, and changed to Directv.
