We have never stayed at OKW. I was advised to get a room close to general store... any other advice?

We've stayed at OKW many many times, and, in all honesty, that's the last place I would stay (and we have been placed there before). And I'll tell you why: it's congested. Yes, it's adjacent to the main pool, but you can stay at the furthest end of the property and walk to that area in 10 minutes if you wish or use the internal bus to get there as well. My first preference is always the Turtle Pond area because I like the "quiet" pool there. You could choose the Miller's Road area and be close but not right in the action, as well, although I don't care for that quiet pool as much. Just my humble opinion.

I agree with SusieBea - we like to be a little further from the mayhem. But we're walkers by nature, so we don't mind walking a block or two to the main pool if that's where we're headed. Again, it's just our opinion.

I would strongly suggest requesting a room that is off the main road a bit if you're not a VERY sound sleeper. The first year we stayed there we requested a room close to a bus stop. We got it all right! But our room was so close to the main road I was up all night listening to the buses going by right outside the window! :-) We wised up after that - none of the rooms are really that far from any given bus stop. But like I said, we don't mind walking.

Enjoy OKW!

The area near the general store is a booking category, known as "Hospitality House". This has to be booked as part of the initial reservation, just like Savannah View and Value rooms at AKV.

Alternatives would be to request buildings 27 to 29, 62 to 64, 15, or 16.

Personally, I agree with the other posters, it is more quiet and relaxing in other parts of the resort, like Turtle Pond or South Point.

We've stayed at the Hospitality House area several times now--just last month in fact. Though we always have a car and can get to and fro with ease, I must say it was nice just being able to walk to the main pool, the gym, Olivia's, and the Gurgling Suitcase. Also on check-out day just walking the luggage over to the Bags counter.
But as others have said, no need to be THAT close if you don't mind walking just a bit more---

We stayed at OKW for the first time this past March and loved it. We stayed in the Turtle section and thought it was great. We just hopped on any bus and got off at the Hospitality House which is there last stop. I loved being able to take the boat to Downtown Disney.

While I don't mind staying at the Hospitality House section of OKW, it is NOT my preferred location. I might feel differently about that if I ever got the Peninsular Road units of HH catagory, but we have only been placed in the ones in 13 and 14, and I don't care for that location at all.

First of all, I prefer the neighborhood pools and hot tubs over the main one. Not so much noise. Secondly, the congestion IS a problem. Lots of people parking there that aren't staying there. Our preferred areas are Miller's Road and South Point. I like both of those nieghborhood pools, and the South Point bus stop is the second stop on the way in from the parks. Miller's Road is the second to the last one in, so it's quick when you go out to the parks.

Our favorite buildings are 45 and 46 right there along the canal. Great views, quiet, and not a bad walk to HH if you choose to do that.

Rent bikes and take a bike ride around the resort and over to SSR and finally DTD, all along the water. It's WONDERFUL!!!:thumbsup2

DEFINITELy pay Ken at the Gurgling Suitcase a visit, that day put the whole resort into perspective- looking at the photo albums of all the happy, happy families at OKW for YEARS!!! And that man makes some mean cocktails (I can personally recommend his Bloody mary, but I hear his Mudslides ROCK! ):rotfl:

We just had our first stay at OKW- and we will be back- the people there are all so warm and inviting!!! Have fun!:thumbsup2

Ps- I'll be writing about OKW soon in my TR- almost done with Vero and it's ON to OKW!:thumbsup2

Just back a couple weeks ago from OKW. I requested close to HH. I got Miller's Road building 15. It was at the end of the road, basically a block from the main buildings. It was close, but far enough away to not be in the middle of any congestion. In fact, I don't think we really saw another soul around. There were cars, and we had a noisy family in the attached room for 1 day, but other than that, we would have thought we had the entire building to ourselves.

Really try to hit Olivia's for a meal. We had lunch and the Cuban sandwich and the pasta dishes were delicious. The key lime pie and banana bread pudding sundae were the best desserts we had all trip. The manager said they daily make those desserts IN HOUSE.

Just wish we had a bit more time to spend at the resort doing fun stuff and trying more meals at Olivia's. Well, guess it's good that we bought some resale points for OKW this week!!

We were there in September and stayed in building 15. It was close to the HH and it was close to Millers Rd. pool, which we used. In the past I have requested a first floor room, but the second floor room are much nicer for the balcony views.
:rolleyes1
