CONGRATS!

We too are in the 2boys/one gal club! We went into our 3rd pg TOTALLY expecting another boy... hadn't been a girl in my DH's family in over 50 years. I had the song "My 3 Sons" buzzing in my brain for months! THen DS (4 at the time) sashays up and makes a comment about "Baby Car-oh-line".

WHO?!?

He explains he was referring to the baby -- his sister - not yet born. Oh honey, I reminded him, we don't know what it will be yet, and the chances are VERY good it will be a boy! (And VERY slim for a girl!)

Nonsense, sez my eldest manchild. It will be a girl, and he will call her Caroline! (His logic -- he already HAS a little brother. He's due a sister. His words, not mine!)

I praise him for his deep thinkin', and agreed Caroline is a beautiful name, but added thoughtfully that, hey, would it be ok if Mom and Dad perhaps picked a name? "Well," he says, pausing for effect I swear, "You can NAME her whatever you want... but I'm not gonna CALL her that. She's Caroline.

So then we went to the ultrasound and the technician showed us the baby -- I said, please, tell my son gently -- he thinks it's a SISTER. She said, "Well, I'm about 95% certain he's right." I couldn't believe it -- wouldn't believe it! People thought I was nuts, but I actually had to get USED to the idea! What on earth did I know about girls? I always thought if God knew what he was doing, he would just give me boys.... I might not be able to handle a girl! All those frills and bows and boys and clothes and aye yi yi....I thought, God, are you up there laughing at me now OR WHAT?!? Even up to the last week of my pregnancy, the doctors would say, Now we're 99.9% sure it's a girl... and I would say, "Well, fine, so I'll buy one dress... but I'm not cutting the tags until you cut the cord!"

Caroline Blair was born 5 yrs ago (yes, we kept the name! ), and let me tell you, I have bought LOTS more dresses since then (and SHOES... she is like a mini Imelda Marcos, I swear....). God is still laughing hard, I think! She sure keeps us on our toes... She's part tomboy, part princess. She's Daddy's girl, and Mommy's girlfriend. She's little sister, and little Momma, tending to her brothers (or "bothers" as she calls them sometimes!) And none of us could EVER imagine a world without her.

Is she harder to raise than the boys? Well, no... just different, thus far. Every child is so unique, regardless of gender! But ask me again in about 10 years. As the saying goes... when you have a son, you have one boy to worry about. When you have a daughter, you have ALL THE BOYS to worry about!

Especially when we came out of The Little Mermaid and there are all of the princess dress up clothes right there. Hubby just said "oh boy" and rubbed his face. I laughed and said I can't wait. If she loves it, then we will make sure she gets to do and see all the princess things she wants. Besides, its great torture for the boys Actually, I would really enjoy doing things with just she and I - but I hope the boys want to do some of it with us all as well The dynamics of older brothers and a sister with a 4 year gap will be fun, frustrating and many places in between I am sure...I can't wait!!!

Wow -- that's the same age "gap" we have -- our eldest was 5 by the time she was born, and the younger son turned 4 one month after her birth. And personally, our dd loves both the princess stuff AND the "other" stuff, too! On our last 2 trips to WDW, I have enjoyed having a Mom/Daughter day in the world with her -- oh what FUN!

We have done stuff that would, by their own accounts, have made the boys "gag", haha, like the princess b'fast in Norway, visiting Ariel's grotto, Minnie Mouse's house, riding the carousel (umpteen times, always trying to find Cindy's EXACT horse), etc. And shopping -- LOL -- it's a whole new world with a girl. I think Disney really caters to the girl populus... just LOOK at all the outfits, accessories, dolls, etc. On our last trip, I took Caroline along with my sister and her 2 dds to Cindy's for bfast -- oh what fun that was! She got all dolled up like a princess -- she truly believed she was Cinderella herself. (The boys all went over to the "other" palace (Pooh's) for bfast, and we met up afterwards.) So she does love to do the girlie stuff, and it's a side of Disney I might have never seen without her. On the other hand... I should add that she ALSO rode Splash Mountain 5 times in one day, and loves BTMRR, and KaliRRR, and Test Track, and anything else she can get her vertically-challenged body to qualify for! Liek I said, she's part diva, part daredevil -- Too funny!

One thing I will add, though -- give that "middle child" some extra love and patience! Our younger son went through a big upheaval when dd was born. I guess he felt like, hmmm, I'm not #1 Son, I'm not Daddy's Girl, I'm just the man in the middle. When dd was just a baby, he loved her dearly -- she was like an audience for him! But once she hit 9 mos and was mobile and developed an attitude and personality -- the love affair (for him, anyway), ended! I think they are just too much ALIKE, honestly! DD gets along SUPER with our eldest (they are SOOO cute together, and he is so very very good to her!), and the 2 boys get along most of the time (that is, when they aren't excercising their y chromosones, vying over some game or such for top dog status). But dd and The Middle Man -- Aye yi yi chihuahua, it's like they are the sand in each other's shorts, I swear!

I think it's cool to see differences not just between kids, but also between the genders. Our boys are SO different -- and yet, as boys go, they also share common traits as well. A great book -- "The Wonder of Boys" by Michael Gurian -- really opened my eyes to the differences in boy vs. girl, and then when we had a girl, I realized just how much of it was true!! Each child has its own special gifts....

Oh the fun you are going to have with YOUR new "gift"!!

This and other posts got me thinking as we are all the "Gen X" of DVC'ers what do we have to look forward too in the next generation? I envisioned my post number 3059 saying:

"Great news - DD is engaged! - The groom comes from good stock - his family has 320 OKW points with an April Use Year! They also have some 200 points in add-ons at various resorts! After the marriage they plan a get-away to the Villa's at Animial Kingdom!"

We also have to DS ( 9 & 7) and a DD (19 months)

Our ultrasound tech gave us the " it looks like a girl but don't paint the nursery walls yet" line so DH was sure it was another boy. I was so happy to not hear " oh...yup its definitely a boy" that I said thats good enough for me.

Anyway, the Boys said the usual....we want another boy.

Well...now they completely adore our little and want another sister!

Congratluations and welcome to the 2 boys & 1 boss club. Our boys were 12 & 14 last summer when we discovered....oops ...pregnant. My DH had always said if he knew we would have a girl he would want to go for it. Well he got his wish 6 weeks ago Anna-Jewell was welcomed into the world. I have to admit I was alittle terrified at first with the idea of a daughter but we have all fallen madly in love with our little She already knows how to run the house. You will enjoy your little jewell just as much...think of the shopping.
