We had some cousins come in from Japan last week and the kids (15 & 13) wanted to go to WDW. We live in Atlanta and are crazy about Disney. We love it so much that we have annual passes and have already made 4 trips since New Years and have 4 more planned before the AP's expire. Anyway the parents of our cousins didn't want to spend the money nor time to drive (~7 hrs) and visit WDW since they were only going to be here 2 weeks (dad only 1 week) and they had to spend a fortune to fly here already. We offered to take the kids for a weekend after the dad left leaving the mom (my mom's niece) with my parents. They didn't decide that they did want to do this until 7/21. The trip was planned for 7/24 & 25. Anyway we made our reservations via Priceline and got a good deal for 2 rooms. I didn't take any days off from work so we left after work on Friday 4:30p arrived at hotel around 12:30a (traffic and slow check-in) went to MK from 9-7 on Sat and DS from 9-6 on Sun. We pulled out of the DS lot at 6p and got home around 12:45a. I did manage to make it to work on Monday although a bit tired! If that is not crazy enough here is the real kicker. There were 7 of us all in my MPV van: My wife and I, our 3 kids: 9yo, 6yo (with Type I diabetes) and 5 week old, and our 2 cousins who are 15 & 13 and don't speak any English and I don't speak Japanese!

As always we had a great time and as far as I can tell so did our cousins. The 5 week old did amazingly well and my wife was finally able to ride RnRC, ToT, SpMtn & SplshMtn again! My 6yo was finally tall enough for Space (with 2 inch platform slippers). She loved it and looks forward to Mission Space on the next trip which was already planned for Labor day.

Glad you had a great trip, at the last minute too!

We are in Macon, and we did this (twice!!) in April...first trip, we decided to go Thursday evening at about 5:30pm. We left at 6pm, arrived at 11pm. Next trip (the very next weekend) we decided that morning to go, and left about 2pm, arrived at 7:30pm. Those were two of the best trips we've ever taken!!

Glad you had fun (and the cousins, too!), and thanks for posting about the "kiddie" concierge, too. We'll be taking advantage of that in September.

You are braver than I would be, but it sounds like you had a great time so good for you!!! :sunny:

We lived in Macon a number of years ago and got down to WDW a number of times....sure miss those days!

Hello fellow Atlantan!! We live north of the city in Buford. Takes us about 8 hrs to get to WDW. Just back 3 days ago. You aren't crazy, you're just mad about the mouse!!!:earsboy:

We're in Roswell -- yes, I'd call our drive a "glorified 7 hrs" -- meaning, it's really 8 hours but everybody likes to say, "Hey, it's just 7 hrs away..." And it does seem really quick on the way down. It's the return trip (when we couldn't peel ourselves away from the park until 3 p.m. or so) that's the kicker for us, LOL

Hey jtjarvis!!! we are a good bit north of Roswell so you get about a 30 minute "jump" on us!! However, we actually did it last week in 7 1/2 hours - we averaged about 70-75 mph. (except thru contstruction zones) of course people passed us like we were sitting still!!!:moped: It's not a bad ride though. DD and I sleep most of the way!!

Last April my DD was going down with the High School Band. On Tuesday night my DH said why don't we drive down for the weekend. We got in our minivan Wednesday night after DH got home from work. Arrived Thursday night around the same time as the band who flew and stayed until Monday morning. Arriving back home Tuesday morning. I have to say it was one of the best trips I can remeber having.

Sounds like fun!!! My question is about Space Mt for your 6yo...my DS will be almost 5yo for our next visit and should be tall enough for Space Mt (44"), but I'm worried that it wouldn't be safe for him and that he'll slip out of the seat. I wouldn't worry if the seats were side-by-side, but since they aren't I worry.

How did your daughter do on the ride? Did she think that she was going to fall out since she was barely tall enough to ride? I have no doubts that my son would like the ride since he loves all coasters, assuming that he stays in his seat. :)

Tigger&Belle,
If you sit in the seat behind your DS, you can hold on to him. You can put your hands on his shoulders to reasure yourself.. My son was a bit nervous thinking that I wasn't sitting next to him but once we were in the seats and he knew I could hold on to him he loved it..

She has been on many other coasters at SixFlags (including going up side down riding only with her 9yo sister) and really had no fears of this ride. She rode the 1st time with my DW and neither expressed any concerns. I rode with her the 2nd time but had our cousin sit between us so I couldn't hold on to her even if I wanted. However, she showed no signs of fear and just enjoyed the ride.

That's good to know that I can put my hands on his shoulders if I want to (even though he will tell me to move my hands). I'd forgotten the distance between the seats and my older kids were bigger when they went on the WDW Space Mt the first time. My 4yo is a daredevil and will enjoy it, no doubt. We brought him on a coaster at Kenneywood last week and I thought for sure he was going to fly out since the restraint wasn't the best and there was some serious air time on this little coaster. Jake loved it and begged to go again. I wouldn't be worried if it were an upside-down coaster since there would be a shoulder restaint. I will do most any ride, but I have a hard time watching my youngest since he is still so little and is so daring.

The RC my daughter rides at SFOG is the MindBender which doesn't have shoulder restraints - only a lap bar. This coaster was one of the 1st with a loop built back in late 70's early 80's??? I still wouldn't worry about SpaceMtn - only if they wouldn't sit would I worry about my child falling out of that one.
