We are just unpacking from our first stay at BLT (cash) and loved it.

After vaccilating for a year, we are going to buy.

Here's my question- what UY's are available for BLT and what are the pros/cons?

I've read that some still rec'd DEC UYS and got extra points (08 points??).

Anyways, our kids (9, 10 ys old) are in year-round school here in Raleigh, NC- so we have the luxury of travelling off-season. Our last 4 trips have been either late Sept or early Dec.

We LOVE travelling then (um, 5 minute wait for all rides?!?!), but we know this will come to a halt in 4-5 years when they start high school.

At any rate- Im looking for some pro advice on UY- we're so excited to finally BUY, I dont want to make a potentially costly error in all the excitement!

Thanks!!

There are no 08 points for BLT that I know of. If you usually travel in September and December, perhaps a September UY will work for you. If you select a December UY and your September trip gets cancelled, you are outside of your banking window (July 31st) and could potentially lose your points. If you buy a September UY now, you should get 2009 points. Not sure what the latest incentives are. I know some people got developer points, but I don't know if that's still in place. Can't hurt to ask.

Good luck!

We were just down there this month and while on the cruise they were mentioning March as the use year, as well as a full set of points for this year and yearly dues would be pro-rated. I am sure you have a referral but if not, make sure you do. You will get better pricing and they may still be using the cruise incentive (I could be wrong on that one). (With all the perks the price was between $96/point and $112)

Good luck and here is a early "Welcome Home!!"

UY's are February, March, April, June, August, September, October & December ( Jan., May, July & Nov. are not UYs).

If you primarily like travelling from September through December then September UY would work well; main idea behind picking "best" UY is to choose UY where you will not travel during last 4 months of that UY because in event of late cancellation you'd be past banking deadline and would only have short period of time to reuse points in another reservation which would need to take place before end of UY. But keep in mind too, that over life of your contract your family's travel habits may change so what may be the ideal UY now may not be 10 or 20 or more years from now - - and this is why some here will say don't worry all that much about what UY you get and you mention in 4 to 5 years your kids will be on high school schedule so will that take Sept. - Dec. travel off the table? if so it maybe best to consider the UY that works best looking ahead to their HS years ( and beyond that will that HS schedule mirror typical college schedule ? )

You can ( and should if you have a preference ) ask for UY that works best for you based upon your travel habits - - guides will tell you what UY is 'currently' being offered so you may have to be persistent about getting UY you feel is best ( it may result in a bit of a wait sometimes for them to acquire points for month you may prefer if they don't have inventory on hand ).

idk for certain, but iirc BLT points began with 2009 UY so, if that in fact is the case, then no 2008 UY points would be given with purchase BUT like I mentioned I'm not sure if there may or may not be 2008 points for BLT but also keep in mind that even if there are 2008 UY points for BLT you'd need to purchase by Sept 30 in order to get 2008 UY pts for October UY along with 2009 UY allotment of pts or by Nov 30 to get 2008 UY pts for Dec UY along with 2009 UY allotment - - you would no longer be able to get 2008 UY points for September even if there were 2008 BLT points because September is now in 2009 Use Year ( as of 9/1/2009)

Best wishes :goodvibes

Hmmmm. We do not have a referral. And Id be happy to get one, however, since I didnt mention it when we initally did our tour and got put into the system- would they still honor one, you think?

We travel similar to you. September, October, and early December. For that reason, we bought BLT with a Sept UY. We had to mention this to our guide or he would have sold us February UY (which is what they were selling at that time).

We initially started the process directly from Disney guide. Then we heard about the referral discount. We contacted our guide and had him add this to our purchase. For us, it turned out we liked our non-referral incentive so we went with that. However, the person we used for the referral did receive a referral bonus.

Also, if you decide you want to travel on a trip within 7 months of purchase, I would suggest talking to your guide and see if they can make a reservation for you. Many people post that their guide has been able to pull some strings.

The Mods here are not presently allowing posters to offer referral; here is link to what they have posted on policy

Here's link to current info from DVCNews.com on new buyer pricing and referral incentive which is, as noted in link above, $25 Disney gift card if you know a member who can refer you and you then must take ' DVC phone tour' ( iirc if you have already done any DVC tour you aren't eligible to do this phone tour ).

For your current travel times (Sept and Dec), Sept UY will work out very well for you. However, if you ever plan to travel during the summer months (ie: when the kids are in high school), then you might want to go with a June UY.

The rule is to try and travel during the first 8 months of your UY so that you are still within the banking window for points if you ever have to cancel or change your reservation to use less points.

One thing to know. Early December, while an off season for the parks, is a very busy time for DVC members. Most members traveling during this time book at the 11 month window to be sure that they get a reservation.

We own BLT and are very happy that we waited for it to buy in to DVC. I am not sure about all the incentives, and you may already know this, but the price is slated to go up this coming week for BLT. It's base price is going from $112 to $120 for new members.

If you are seriously considering this, you may want to contact your guide to start the paperwork, just to lock in this price. If, in the next few weeks, the incentives get better, Disney is really good (especially if you are still within your 10 day rescind period) in allowing you to re-write your contracts.

Good luck!!!

Just to reiterate here, the referral program which resulted in a discount for the new buyer (and rewards of choice for the existing member) have ended. It was an exception to allow that program, per DIS Posting Guidelines.

The current referral program is not allowed to be promoted here on the DIS. Thanks all...

While we are on the topic of use year, does anybody know of any good threads that elaborate on the UY and explain it for us newbies?

I am not sure if we will have a "regular time" to visit. So far we've vacationed mostly in May, August, and October but would like to visit in Early December for the Holidays as well.

We just bought in at BLT with a March UY but our paperwork isn't finalized yet and I know I could switch it if I asked and persisted. I'm thinking now that I should ask for April, since cancellation of a December trip would put me in a bad position if I had a March UY, right?

Any opinions welcomed and appreciated! :thanks:

It is my understanding that there are no 2008 points for BLT since the resort was not open until 2009. We purchased in November of last year and only received 2009 points for BLT.
