We enjoyed our cruise. Seas were the roughest we have cruised in but we couldn't feel the ship move. Our location was a cat. 3 midship 8548. We will be in this room again next spring break. Deck 8 is noisy compared to deck 6 but we were still able to sleep. To all: to get the cheapest cruise rate book as far in advance as possible.

The DIS meet was the largest we had seen. All were nice.

The weather was fantastic. A lot warmer than last year and no rain! Well, when we were leaving Key West it rained but we sailing away.

Key West was great. Ladies, the Tikal Trading Company has cute tropical mother/ daughter outfits at a good price. Fast Buck Eddies was a fun store to shop in. The aquarium was a good thing to do with children.

Grand Cayman. Missed it because of sea swells coming into the harbor. No the Magic was fine and not rocking but we are boaters and believe me after what we saw in the harbor, we would not want to be in a small tender in those conditions. DCL had a wonderful day at sea planned for us and the weather ended up being better than our first day at sea. It didn't bother us at all, we prefer the days at sea and we got the 3 days at sea just like the eastern!

Cozumel. We rented a taxi and took a small island tour. Mr. Sanchos beach is where we will spend time the next time we go to Cozumel. The other side of the island looks completely different than where the ships dock. Our daughter opted to stay aboard the ship and do the club.

Castaway Cay. Perfect. A word of caution, remember the entire ship gets off on one island. Be prepared, it well be crowded. We saw a young family at 11:30 am complaining to a cast member because it was so crowded. It wasn't what they expected, they had a small child and they were demanding a umbrella with chairs. All we thought was, well, they aren't the only family aboard with a small child. If you want an umbrella, get off the ship early.

The children's programming. Our daughter loves the club. She is in the 10-12 group. She enjoyed this cruise as much as her first back in '99. She loved the party held at night in the Mickey Pool just for her age group. They were able to use the slide with out the crowded conditions of the pool. I don't remember that from last year. She was sad when we had to leave the ship Sat. morning. She was reminded we are coming back in '04.

The food. Getting better each cruise. If you are a food snob you would be turning your nose up but for cruise food cooked in mass quanities it was tasty. The lobster was the best I have ever had on a cruise ship in my total of 12 cruises. My husand said the beef was much better from our first DCL cruises.

The ship. She needs her dry dock time. We have cruised a year apart for 5 cruises (except once it was 6 mo. apart) and we can see her wear and tear. It is expected. The ship is half children every cruise and as parents we all know how rough children can be. I hope they replace the mattresses, ours was really feeling broken down. The carpet in our room was also looking old.
The common areas of the ship were looking great. We did have a small plumbing problem with our bubble tub and it was fixed in a timely matter.

The crew. Not one rude cast member. That is a first.
The passengers. Well this cruise had more than its fare share.

The dissappoinments. This is only our OPINION so please no debate started.
We where prepared for 1 formal night, 1 semi-formal night and the rest casual. What we experienced was the formal night was more like a semi-formal night and the rest was casual. I was surprised at the number of people who dressed in tropical attire on the semi-formal night. Maybe it was just our rotation. We had PAL. Did not like that rotation at all. Our previous cruises we had LAP which we prefer.

Our cruise in Jan on Celebrity was a 7 day so we had a ton of children aboard. We had 4 formal nights and I mean tux formal nights, 1 semi formal night and 2 casual. We know the defense is always, we paid for our vacation and we will wear what we want. So be it. We just like the cruising tradition of dressing up and seeing all the fellow passengers in their finest attire.

We have decided we prefer the eastern over the western but I would do the western once again. Disney is still the cruiseline we feel is the best for families. Dave and Kathy

Thanks for posting! We had the same experience with the dress on our Magic cruise this past February. I was shocked at the lack of people dressing up on our cruise as well. It did not ruin my vacation by any means, however I did miss the special atmosphere that the formal nights generate that we experienced on other cruise lines.

We also just got back (stateroom #8562) sorry we did not meet up. This was our 3rd Disney cruise and I agree the ship is starting to show some signs of wear and tear (Goofy Pool).

We were most disappointed with losing the day at Grand Cayman due to the weather. But I certainly would not have wanted to be on a tender with those waves. Although I had heard this happened in January and that the ship was allowed to dock in Cozumel the night before the sceduled day (to enjoy the nightlife)...oh, well.

We did do Sancho's in Cozumel and it was excellent! Uncrowded free beach, nice little pool, great food and the waverunners on the ocean was a blast!

Castaway Cay was wonderful as always although there was an altercation with crew at the adult side when a couple brought their little one to the adult side (must be 18). People should learn to follow the rules. They were shamed into leaving. There were also people complaing about Grand Cayman. This was not Disney's call and people need to understand that and lighten up.

The only food we did not care for was Animator's Palate, Parrot Cay was improved but nothing beats Palo.

This was the first time that we flew in a day earlier. We spent the day at Islands of Adventure and the kids loved it. Then we stayed in Cocoa Beach, slept in and leisurely got up and went to the boat. This was the first time that we totally enjoyed the entire first day. It really made the trip. I would suggest it to all so that you are not running around all stressed out the first day.

The staff was great and the vast majority of cruisers were fun. We will be back again.

We will be in 8548 on the May 10th Western. Our last cruise was a 7 day Eastern on Deck 6 so your words about the noise level are informative.

Thanks for the update.

Hi everyone...

I too just returned last night.. and gosh.. i wish i were still on board.. i made lots of new friends.. some from these boards and some from being in line on the first morning.. and some just by chance..

this was my 3rd Disney Cruise.. i did the Cozumel Beach Break.. and would not do it again... we had a problem when trying to return to the ship that i will be writing a letter to DCL about.. they did not want to honor the 3pm return and made us wait until 330pm and were giving families a difficult time about boarding the bus.. for all that were there.. i was the be otch that told the driver that i would be reporting them to Disney!

Anyway.. my only dissappointment about GC was that we had a friend that lives there that we were hoping to have a 1 day visit with...

Met really nice guys from the DVC that were working on board..

The St Patty's day "pub" crawl went well.. there were about 10 of us at certain points during the day!!

Unfortunately i did get seasick on that Monday as we had rough seas.. was the first time in 5 cruises that has happened..

I loved the food and service that we received.. and i subsequently gained 5 lbs despite not being able to eat dinner the seasick night.. back on the diet again i guess...

Hope all made it home safely!

Kelly

KELLY!!!

Just a note to you to say thanks! We had fun at the pub crawl....and Kathy and I have got to hit the treadmill now that we are back!!

Side note that a few have asked...I saw only one sick kid on board (could have been sea sickness). There were no other sightings of anyone being ill. They were very, very careful in the kids clubs with hand washing as soon as you entered.

It was great meeting you Kelly, it pays to get their early,

best of luck,

Dave, Kathy, Callen and Nicholas

We were on the January cruise that did not make it to Grand Cayman.

We arrived in Cozumel at 11:00 pm on Tuesday night and stayed until about 11:00 pm Wednesday night. We had a great time!!!

am already looking into when i want to cruise next year... Seems like the week went by soooo fast....

Hope Callen enjoyed her Bday cruise!

Talk to you soon!
Kelly

I'm so glad you had a great time. I thought about you living it up in Category 3 last week (while we were doing the parks to death!)

We're cruising a similar itinerary in June (on a different cruise line- the horrors!), with stops in Key West, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Thanks for the shopping and beach tips!

You'll love your cruise. What line is it on? Hopefully you will make it to Grand Cayman. The cat. 3 was worth every penny. The service was wonderful and the concierge was attentive. Little perks included some free pop (soda), a real refrigerator (same size as the cooling boxes), fresh fruit daily, one night we received chocolate dipped strawberries-yum, one day we received a plate full of cookies and Stephanie was given an arcade card. We also were able to order a hot breakfast from room service so we never saw Topsiders until lunch!. All the menus were in the room so if we wanted we could of ate every meal in our room. The noise was there but not as bad as I thought it could of been. I think what I heard was the early morning crew arranging the pool chairs. On embarkation day we went to Sessions and the concierge handled all of our reservations and enrolling Stephanie into the club. You need to try a cat. 3. Kathy

The noise was there but not enough to prevent us from sleeping. I think I heard them arrange the pool chairs early each morning. The perks in the 3 are great. Read my post to KathyTX above. One thing, bring a drop cord. It is a must in a Cat. 3. The only regular outlets are by the small mirror located by the sliding door in the bedroom side behind the TV and behind a movable cabinet in the salon side (this location is not where you would use a hairdryer). There is no outlet for a hairdryer or curling iron in the huge bathroom or vanity area. We ended up using the vanity as a office area. If you want to dry your hair and style it in the bathroom bring a very long drop cord and I do mean long, 20' would be my guess.

As for storage there is so much storage you will have empty drawers! We also had a few plumbing issues. One, the sink on the right side of the master bath had water barely coming out of the faucet. Easy fix, the faucet strainer was plugged from chips of rust from pipes, yucky I know but just screw off the strainer, rinse and put it back on. The bubble tub was strange, it had a mind of its own. When I first went to use it it didn't work. It was fixed quickly. Then on formal night Dave walked into the master bath and turned on the lightswitch and the stupid tub turned on! with no water in it. We had to fill the thing because it wouldn't turn off. Remember we were dressed in our formal attire. LOL So off to dinner we go with a bubble tub on and maintence on their way to fix it. Yes, it had a mind of it's own.

Enjoy the room! We have it booked for 3/20/04 Spring Break Eastern.

Chocolate-dipped strawberries! Full room service breakfast! Bubble tub! Concierge service for reservations! It does sound absolutely fabulous...

Our June cruise will be on Holland America's Zuiderdam, which just went into service last December. It'll just be the two of us, and we're really looking forward to it. The munchkin will be playing on Grandpa's farm in Iowa.

Tell Dave and Princess Stephanie we said hello!

Oh my, you are going high class! From what I have been told, Holland American and Celebrity are similar cruising experiences. We have been on Celebrity so you will love it. Make sure you send me a report after you get back! email me at kathyt@raccoon.com Tell Tom and Andrew hello for us. Kathy

Thanks for a great report! We currently have a late June/July '04 Eastern itinerary booked. I was recently thinking about moving our trip up to April '04 (Easter week), but that would mean sailing on the Western itinerary. We have gone on the 3 and 4 day cruises, but this would be our first 7 day. I see that you prefer the Eastern, so I was wondering what your thoughts were on this considering time of year and weather. Would you stick with a June/July Eastern trip, or April Western cruise? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well the choice is really up to you. I have been to Cozumel in March and in May not April. It was hot in May and this year it was hot in March. The Eastern will be hot in June/ July. Do you prefer the days at sea? If so the Eastern has 3 and it starts off with 2. The Western only has 2 unless they can't tender in at Grand Cayman as was the case on our cruise.

My first cruise was a 4 day starting in Miami, Key West/at sea, Cozumel, and a day at sea. I have been to Cozumel and Key West 4 times now. I think we have done just about what we would ever want to do in those two ports. As far as the Eastern we could go several more times before I get to see everything I want to see in St. Thomas. The landscape is not as plush in Cozumel as it is in St. Thomas but the water is gorgeous clear aqua blue. St. Maarten probably compares to Cozumel but getting to a beach is easy, a short ferry ride and you're right there. If you want to buy jewelry, my opinion is that prices and choices are better on the Eastern.

This probably doesn't help you much. Our favorite port is St. Thomas and we prefer 3 days at sea so that is why we like the eastern better. We did the western for a change of pace. In my heart I will always love the western because it was where my first cruise was. Kathy
