We all felt sick after Mission Space

Its def our favorite ride. I can't understand how many people seem to struggle with the ride, considering how many warnings are up. Its so unbelieveable. They even say, its like nothing you have ever experienced! Same with the 4 year old that died on it. Why would you submit a 4 year old to it. they warn you, its not "its a small world".

We love it. Quite a thrill! :cool1:

FWIW- I had no real problems on MS, on a scale of 1 to 10 probably a 0.5 on the woozy/queasy factor. My wife rode it once, will not ride it again, she tends toward motion sickness on some rides. My 17 year old daughter loved it, no problems. My 80 year old father rode it last month and said he had no problems. I would probably have recommended to him not to ride it, sort of assumed he wouldn't, but he forged ahead.

One more MS comment after reading one of the posts a little further up- interesting about G force being reduced. I rode MS soon after it opened and then last April. I remember thinking after the last ride that it was not as intense as the first time I rode it.

I'm 52 and love MS. But, I can not take the tea cups at all.
LOL I agree! I'm 51 and my DS is 16. We rode MS twice and thought it was the best ride at WDW. But, no way am I riding the teacups!

I've also read that the ride was toned down, dropping it from around 4 G's to 2 G's.
Do you know when they changed that?? ::MickeyMo
I've seen a lot of people make that claim, but every time the issue is raised with Disney themselves, they deny it categorically. It's the same ride that it was on opening day, they say.

And personally I'm hoping that they DON'T alter the ride. It's meant to be a simulation of what it's like to go into space. If you tame it, then it no longer fulfills its purpose. You might as well have put another Star Tours-style simulator in there, if you're not after realism. And frankly, if they do make it "less intense", I'm pretty sure there'd be a lot of annoyed people at NASA, considering how much trouble some of their top people went to, to help Disney come up with a realistic experience.

Don't get me wrong - I do feel sorry for all of you who for one reason or another are unable to go on Mission:Space without being sick; mainly because I love the ride so and know how upset I'd be if I was unable to go on it.

But please Disney, don't spoil the ride for those of us who want it how it should be!

I was under the impression that when Disney tested the ride there were more G's, but people had a hard time so they lowered the G's. If that was done during testing, but before it opened to the general public that would explain why it is now the same as opening day.

I have the exact same feeling after riding It's a Small World. I always feel the need to puke when I get off that ride. And it stays with me all day as that bloody song keeps playing over and over in my head.

I want to warn people about It's a Small World. That ride is the DEVIL!!!!!

:rotfl: :cool1: :rotfl2: :confused3

Me, too!!! :rotfl:

And my DH cannot even watch the tea cups, but was fine on M:S.

I would like to add my comments to this forum regarding this ride. I would first like to offer my condolences to the family of the young boy who died after this ride. I am 48 years old and have always had problems with any type of fairground ride that spins. I therefore had quite a lot of reserveations about trying out this ride. I've been on all of the roller coaster type rides without any problems and I can asure you that I regard myself as physically fit.
To recreate the G forces required for this ride, it is nessesary to SPIN the physical body. There isnt much information about what the technical aspects of the ride are before entering, just mountains of the usual disclaimers and plenty of chances to bottle out!!. The only thing I can suggest is that you remain focused on the 17" screen in front of you and do not allow your head to turn sideways. As your brain is now focused on a point of the screen and the ride itself starts spinning, there is no physical outside reference point to make you feel nauseated with most outdoor spinning rides. I would like to add that I did get lots of chances to get out of this ride before entering, and if it makes you feel any better, there are plenty of sick bags around:).
It was a truly incredible attraction and I would not hestitate to go on it again. Please keep in mind the amount of people who have been on this ride and there is a very small percentage of people who experience any discomfort during and after the ride.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. But they do post warnings all over the place as you're waiting on line, and they repeat the warnings overhead as well. DH and I went on it and it was a really weird experience- but not bad. I think the "forces" you were feeling were from spinning, not being upside down.

It is too bad you Mission Space experience was so bad. It is my favourite ride at Disney and cannot wait until we go back (February 06) to ride it again. For me, it is the roller coasters that do me in. Goofy's Barnstormer...no problem...but anything much more intense and I get nervous. Although, I think I am going to suck it up and try Rock and ROllercoaster at MGM this time...maybe. Well, maybe not. :scared1:

We rode it the 1st time in 2004. I HATED it! But would agree to give it another chance. This year I did it again, and although I didn't hate it as much as the 1st time I rode it I have come to terms that it will be my last time on it.

DD loves it and will have to go via single rider line.

It affects everyone a little differently. My 80yo Mom and I ride it several times during each of our WDW visits and actually find the sensation relaxing.

i agree!

we rode it and husband got sick even doing everything they instructed but he is prone to motion sickness( hehe I think it's funny "ms" and "motion sickness" have the same initials, kind of like a "hidden " joke??) i warned him to take bonine but he "didn't need it"..wrong,but i loved it and after the first few seconds felt like i was floating and even the close quarters didn't bother my :crazy:claustrophobic 'brain". imo not really a thrill ride just fun

totally agree bunch 24 ...imo isbsw( it's a small but sadistic world) is the one that needs the barf bags..all that "sickeningly sweet cutesee poo" does me in everytime.. i'm bringing earplugs and a blindfold as percautionary measures for when we ride it with grand baby next trip ;)

My DH, myself and 7yr old twins have never felt sick after riding MS. It's one of our favorites. :cool1: However, my DH cannot take TOT. :scared:

I was the only one in my family of 6 who felt sick during Mission Space. The bad part is that it takes a while to shake off the dizziness, wooziness, and nausea.

My family continues to ride.....I go in thru the exit and play the Mission Control Space Race game (being an astronaut is really fun) and have a wonderful time while waiting.

First off I had a similar experience in that I felt very queasy and nearly fainted when the ride was over.

That being said I do not feel sorry for anyone who calls "foul" that this ride made them sick. There are warning signs all over the place and if I am not mistaken a little clip shown on the tv monitors as to how the ride actually works (That it is basically a centrifuge).

Even in my situation seeing all the warnings and the video while in line as to how the ride works we still wanted to ride it just to experience it at least once. I knew what we might be in for and I was right. When we were done we bought a mission space pin and feel that pin is special amongst all others in that we "earned" that pin!

Even with all that I still like the ride itself but unfortunately am one of those people who can't handle the spinning. But I don't blame Disney or anything, they warned me and we went willingly. To call foul and blame Disney is ridiculous as the signs are all there and warnings abound.

I didn't *hate* M:S, but I wasn't a huge fan. Both DH and I felt *off* for quite awhile after going on the attraction. Not sick, but not quite right. I'm really really glad we went on it though, it was definitely an experience. We will probably skip it on our upcoming trip, but maybe venture back on it sometime in the future.

I think the ride is incredible but made me very sick in a way I've never experienced before and it lasted a long time. Star Tours is my favorite ride and I've never been sick on a ride before. I say bring back motion and horizons and don't risk making folks this sick. In spite of the signs, (there are signs on pirates) people like me will ride it and not do well. An amusement ride isn't worth it.

I love thrill rides but this one made me feel uncomfortable for about 2 hours after I rode it during testing in June 2003. I discovered that I had a slight claustrophobia problem and would have gotten off the ride if there hadn't been 3 Girls between me and the door. I looked forward the whole time and the feeling of claustrophobia went away as soon as the screen cut on and I got the sense of depth, but my inner ear couldn't be completely fooled. I'll stick to roller coasters etc.
