We’ve Arrived at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point!

We are going on the Magic in September.... I'll be curious how it works with the heat... That's my only concern, and the fact you will still need a tram once you get there.

With an infant, we really aren't huge Castaway people right now - the fact there is this water feature might make Lighthouse point more appealing - but then again, having to sometimes carry a kid from the family beach all the way back to the ship doesn't really inspire me to want to have to imagine doing that with an additional fifteen minute walk...

See, it's not even one Epcot! We'll be OK.
Well, except for those of us who stop and rest in every country as we work our way around . . .

I may be able to make it to the island, although I wouldn’t feel well if it was hot and sunny, but returning at the end of the day might be too much in the heat. It’s really too bad they couldn’t have recessed some benches so people could take a break and not obstruct the pier walkway.

This is the same island that Princess Cruises uses for their private island, called Princess Cays on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. Been to it many times. (It is just on the other side of the island from the DCL Lighthouse Point area). Princess uses tenders to get from the ship to the island.

Did DCL build this "highway" in the ocean so they wouldn't have to tender? I am sure there will be trams to get you from the ship to the island? No way people can walk to and from that far especially in the sun and heat.
Nope. only people with mobility issues and Cabana guests. Everyone else hoofs it.

Question for the group. Once you walk from the ship to the tram area…can you then walk again to the beach area or do you have to take a tram? I would prefer to be able to walk even if it is a long distance. Thank you!

What I’m wondering is if the pier is wide enough for two lanes of golf carts for those who qualify (going to the island and then returning back get more people, reverse in the PM) and 2000 walkers. Obviously they don’t all go at once… but it doesn’t look super wide.

The signs along the tram road showed the tram, bikes, and people walking and said to watch out. There was no sidewalk but the paved road was wide enough for trams to pass each other and a wide shoulder on each side.

It would appear walking was envisioned to be allowed.

For this cruise I saw no one walking and bike rentals were not available.

Yup. Disney Dream, Fantasy and Magic do it. They are 4 night cruises though with stops at CC and LP. 5 Night cruise will add Nassau to CC and LP

When are these? Not in August I know that.

I'm surprised at the people complaining about the walk. If you don't have a mobility issue are you really not capable of walking for 10 minutes?
I have no issue with the walk but I’m curious how it’s gonna go if you have golf carts going in two directions. If the walkers can only be say 2-3 wide and you get stuck behind the preschoolers…. That’s not gonna be pleasant. Even if you are playing frogger to get around them. I could very well be wrong- we’ll see next week with real guests.

Just say excuse me and walk around. People make a big deal out of the every little stupid thing. You would think people have never walked in the heat for 10 minutes or in a crowd. It's ten minutes out your life people. You'll be OK.

If you can't walk for 10 minutes. Don't ever book a European cruise.

So far, there isn’t anything I’ve seen that’s made me thing I need to visit LP. My bank account really appreciates this.
I'm thinking the same. The cruises on the Magic that go to Cozumel and Castaway are cheaper. I've been to Cozumel a few times, but I think it's more interesting than another island that so similar to Castaway. At least in Cozumel you can get some good seafood and Mexican food and maybe do an interesting excursion.
I want to see the new island someday. Not sure it's worth the extra price for last minute Summer getaway before my son starts college

The new “island” looks like a flop. It’s a beautiful beach and design but the logistics (long, ugly walk plus tram) and lack of amenities are disappointing. I saw a very small water play area (2? Small water slides and a tiny splash pad) and nothing else for kids. We live near a beach so a beach alone doesn’t make me want to book a trip. You can do a cheap beach break excursion at most Caribbean ports that looks about the same as this. I wish they went big like coco cay or at least attempted to add some interesting elements.

Perhaps it’s not your intent, but your post comes across as rather ableist. I would guess that people expected a similar level of transportation accommodation on the new island as already exists on CC. After all, this is not a European cruise, they are booking a Bahamian cruise to a private island.

Even for folks who don’t have mobility issues, 15 minutes (each way) in direct sun in 90+ degrees schlepping beach gear and infants/toddlers is not the same as wandering through Europe with the option to pause and rest in shops and cafes. Moreover, it’s not how most people want to start a beach day and definitely not how they want to end it….there is a reason why beach-adjacent rentals cost 3-5x as much as houses that are 10 blocks from the beach.

This is what I was thinking - I’m quite happy to walk around Europe. Less so in 90 degrees for 15 mins flat (plus the wait for the tram, however long that will be) in clothes designed for the beach, not walking around in.
