How easy is it to tour WDW without a smart phone? I don't have a smart phone bc I rely on my iPad most of the time. However, I don't want to carry my iPad to the parks. With the new FP+ system and all of the apps now available! is it difficult to tour without being online?

we've always done the parks without a device. Only time I wish I had something was when we wanted to change a FP+ last trip (January). Lines were long at the kiosks.

I have used my iPhone a lot to change FP+ while in the parks. As Good Morning said, you can use the kiosks to do this but there are often long lines.

Well, I don't have one and I think I'll be just fine. I have my FP+ attractions already chosen and my ADRs are all made. I am not someone who lives on their phone and I certainly don't want to spend my vacation on it!

I don't have a phone either, just an iPad. Just bought a cute Travex bag from Eddie Bauer to haul it around WDW this May. Not what I usually do, but I don't like the idea of waiting in a long line if I can avoid it.:)

You could also buy an Apple or Android phone on Ebay of Craigslist (somehow making sure it actually worked). If is gets a wifi signal, you don;t need any plan whatsoever. They will connect wifi just fine,

When I went in September I didn't have a smart phone and only used FP+ (did not make use of legacy FP machines)...and I loved it! You don't need a smart phone. There are kiosks if you feel like you need to make any changes to your FP+...but if you don't think that's something you will be doing often then I wouldn't worry about it at all. I didn't need or want to make any changes to mine so a smart phone was not needed at all.

NEED--- not necessarily

BUT- We did use ours quite a bit with apps to check the wait times for rides before heading over there....and that was very helpful. (We found a 15 minute wait for Pirates, so headed that way quickly!)

Also, we could change our FP while walking from one ride to another.... one night we unexpectedly got to go to Epcot and ride most of the things I had FP for on the following day, so as we were doing them, DH was working on securing different FP for the following day.... that worked out really well.

Until 2 weeks ago, I only had a dumbphone

I swore I'd never get a smartphone

We may or may not have gotten me a smartphone specifically because of our Disney trip

:rolleyes1

(and also we got a really great cheap deal through my hubs employer...but still the straw may have been the trip)

Never had one. Don't want one. DH has a notebook that we usually take along and check mail in the morning before heading out or in the evening when we get back to the room. I WILL NOT be a prisoner of technology. We carry a cell phone in case of emergencies, but we don't call people to chat !!
Anyone who wishes to do that, fine, but we aren't going to start now. Won't be using FP+ and won't be making advance dining plans, etc.
We've done Disney for a lifetime without all that. It's fine for young folks and those who desire to be connected all the time. That wouldn't be me.
I worked in offices, banks and pharmacies where the phones never stopped ringing. And I had jobs that required me to answer and handle the calls. I'll vacation without being connected. Just my choice !!!
Of course you can do the parks without a smart phone.

Same argument my granddad used about not giving up his horse..

Can you use an ipod touch in the parks to do it?

Yes, as long as the WDW Wi Fi is cooperating.

I was surprised to see hardly any lines at most of the kiosks earlier this past week at MK. Lots of CMs standing around with nothing to do. I had my iPhone and never had any problems with wifi. Maybe we were just lucky but it was all pretty easy.
