Day 4 – NO PARKS!
We tried to sleep in but only made it to about 7:15. Oh well, it was more vacation time to be enjoyed!
We decided to head back to Downtown Disney. We missed a few stores and if we arranged things well, we could ride the boat over. As it turned out we did time it well. We were the only ones on the pontoon headed over. Brooke really wanted to run around. So we let her roam the boat a bit. That still was no good. So, I picked her up to see the water. We were then in business. She was cutting two molars at once this week, so her teeth were hurting her (we did not discover this until that boat ride) and she gnawed on a railing on the back of the boat. The vibration seemed to soothe her and the last half of our ride was rather pleasant.

We hit some stores looking for some clothing items for Brooke and some toys for me. We also placed an order for more etched mugs. We love those things and get some each trip. Through prior gifts and our purchases we figure eventually we’ll have enough to remove our nasty old glasses! Brooke went to play on the Lego playground. She climbed right up the slide on her own. We judged it to be too big, but she proved us wrong once again. She slid down the slide and wanted LOTS more. Thankfully we were early and only a small crawling infant was there. We nearly had it to ourselves.

We wanted to try out the African buffet at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. So, we bought some lemonade for Brooke and boarded the bus to head to the Lodge. We were mistaken about there being a lunch buffet. Whoops. We ended up eating in the fast service location which was not too bad. Afterwards Brooke found the wading pool and eventually gave up on wading and flat out sat in the pool! Good thing we had purchased some clothes. A quick change and we went to check out the lodge. It was very pretty. We had nearly stayed here, but our TA convinced us it would not suit or purposes. She was right in retrospect. However, it would have been a wonderful place to call home for a week.

We caught a bus and headed home. Brooke was getting better with the bus trips and thankfully she rested on the way home. She was fully asleep by the time we got to our room. Cindy took a nap with Brooke and I took walkie talkie to the pool. We then worked out dinner plans!

We decided upon Ohanas at the Polynesian resort. We had reservations for a fireworks cruise at the Grand Floridian, so we needed to eat close. We took a bus to Magic Kingdom, rode the ferry to the TTC and then walked over to the Polynesian. While we liked the lobby, we were not impressed with the resort. Note to self, don’t bother with this one in the future. Our dinner however was likely the best meal of our entire trip. Ohanas is a big thumbs up. It was another family style meal. Brooke ate the big kids food and loved the meats.

After dinner we went to the Grand Floridian to kill time before our boat ride. The orchestra was playing and all the buzz this wonderful resort has was in full force. Brooke ran around, climbed stairs and tried to claim wine glasses that had been left by some guests. We decided maybe a walk on the beach would be better. And was it… Brooke loved walking in the sand and leaving foot prints. She also had a great time chasing the ducks. I was the selected parent to chase after her. All I could see were her little sandals kicking up sand and all I could hear was “kawk, kawk, kawk” (Brooke’s version of quack). I was laughing so hard I had a tough time keeping up. But she was enjoying herself, so what harm was there?

We did not take our cell phone with us (it’s vacation!) to the Grand and missed the message that my grandparents and aunt would not be able to meet us for our ride. The dog had come down sick and a trip to the vet was in order. We waited as long as we could and finally boarded the boat for a trip around Bay Lake. Brooke was getting sleepy. We feared we had pushed her too far this time. But as soon as the fireworks started, she was no longer sleepy. This was her first bit of fireworks. She was entranced!

At this point I started to get nervous about getting back to our resort in one piece. We asked our boat driver to drop us off at Magic Kingdom to save us a trip from the Grand. Thankfully, he agreed. Then with the masses exiting the park, we got a bus right away. Whew, we dodged that bullet. It was standing room only on the bus, but we had discovered Brooke did better when I held her anyway. So, we did our best to keep her happy. She was sleepy, teeth were killing her and crowds of people around. It was a recipe for disaster. Thankfully we had some very understanding and helpful people around us (almost begging me to sit down with her) and we made it to the resort without a full scale assault on our ear drums. We got back to the room and she had a burst of energy. Ugh… No rain that night. Our first of the trip!
