Wdw weather in early December?

We were there in December, 2010.... though later in the month (Christmas Week)..... we were pretty cold. I live in NY and love cooler weather so this was great for me, and my kids were thrilled too.

My husband not so much, he was annoyed the whole time.

When we went in August 2011 my daughter kept saying how she really preferred to be freezing over sweating.

I think I would have to agree with your daughter :thumbsup2: Cold is much better! All you have to do is put more layers on!!

Wow! I am so glad I asked this, you guys really saved me from freezing during my trip! :rotfl: I really didnt know what I was getting myself into. Im just going to layer layer layer, and utilize the lockers (great tip)! Seriously thank you!!! :worship:

You really need to look at the weather forecast right before you go. It might be 80's all week and you will not need to bring alot of warm clothes. The first time I went in early December I was prepared with alot of warm clothes and didn't need them, I really needed more shorts.

I'd plan to pack layers of clothing & be prepared for widely varying temperatures. During our last trip that was about that same week, we had 80 degree daytime temps during the first part of our trip, and by midweek it was in the 60s during the day and down to the 40s at night.

I found this neat recommended weather site on a WDW planning website. I'm not sure if it will allow me to post a weather link but here's a shot: http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner/index.asp?MR=1 . When you plug in your days it says the average high is 77 and average low is 61. Again that's an AVERAGE, so it could be different but it's a good starting point! It's all based on past weather data but it also says those dates are most likely sunny. :beach:

Hey everyone! I'm going for my first trip ever to WDW ( first time to Florida in fact!) :cheer2: from Nov.29 thru Dec. 8th and I need some honest answers about the weather at this time of year. I'm currently doing some online window shopping to get an idea of what to buy when the time comes, but I'm completely stumped on weather to dress in pants or sun dresses! Please help me out! Thank you :beach:

Congratulations on your first WDW trip!:)

You will be in AWE of the place-it is HUGE and AMAZING!:)

I go the first week of December every year and temps really can vary greatly(below:)).:)

Just be prepeared for anything and you will have a blast-December in WDW is AMAZING with over 1,000 Christmas trees, miles of garland, etc.!:)

We went Dec 4- Dec 12 2010, the first 2 days we were short sleeves during the day (high was in the 70's) and a light jacket at night. The rest of the days, we were coats, hats, and gloves. We had highs in the 40's during the day and down into the 30's at night.

We were there at almost exactly the same time. We did pack for both cold and moderate weather (we checked the weather updates constantly the week before), but to be honest, it was too cold for me. I live in the L.A. area, and anything below 60 is cold, but anything below around 45 is downright miserable! You are right that there were daytime temperatures in the 70s, but most of the time it was 60s or lower. I remember seeing the gardening crew put out the frost cloth on the plants around the resorts.

One night towards the end of our trip, I remember we had on coats, hats, gloves, and scarves that covered most of our faces...after a week of weather that was too cold for me, I cried. I know it sounds silly, and it could've just been trip stress, but I was tired of being cold.

This is not meant to scare you off...just be prepared! Check the weather predictions the week before your trip, and pack clothes that you can layer. We went again in Jan-Feb of 2011 (yes, just a few months later), and it was more pleasant. The temperatures still got into the 50s at night, but nothing close to what it was in December.

As others have said, the weather can be very unpredictable that time of year. We've gone twice in December, first time being 2003 and second time 2010 (about the same week both times) and the weather was totally different. In 2003 it was in the 80s on our arrival day and after that we needed coats, gloves, etc the rest of the week. The resort pool was also closed after that first day due to the cold. In 2010 the weather was nice. The temps hit middle to high 80s a few days which was great for swimming, and although it wasn't warm enough for us personally to swim after those first few days (others were swimming all week), the temps were comfortable without having to bundle up in winter coats/gloves. I packed for all kinds of weather, but we didn't need anything heavy. Florida had a cold snap the week or so before we arrived, but luckily for us the weather changed for the better and it was great while we were there. With all of that said, I agree with the other posters that regardless of what the weather might say right before you leave, I would pack a little of everything as you just never know ;).

If you were there in Dec. 2010 from about the 5th - 15th (approx. can't rem. exactly now) it was freezing time. We were there and have pics to prove how cold it was. It was in the high 20's several nights and 40-50's with wind during the day. A lot of the plants froze ( had "jack frost visited us last night" signs) and the poinsettia "trees" were mostly covered, and several other plant beds were also under wraps. There was ICE on the MK dock in the morning :scared1: It does vary from year to year and that was a drastic round of lows for Dec. We're going same time this year and hope for some pixiedust:
We needed gloves, hats, heavy coats and scarves and we were still miserable for a lot of the time - viewing the Osbourne Lights and trying to take videos wasn't much fun either.
So OP, to be safe, take all kinds of clothes because you never know ::yes:: Check PP's post and it will agree with mine!

We were there Dec 11-20 2011. We were swimming at 8pm at night. I wore shorts the whole trip and never put a sweatshirt on. It's was very warm. I'm from Arizona and I thought it was much warmer than it was at home.

We were there 12/15-12/21, which was right after the cold snap. I was checking weather reports before we were scheduled to leave and I started getting worried that it would be freezing, but the weather made a turn for the better by the time we arrived and it was nice and comfortable when we were there. It wasn't in the 90s, but it also wasn't in the 40s. It was in the 70s when we arrived and actually hit the mid 80s for a few days, which made it nice for swimming in December ;).

HaHa, we arrived on the 24th thru the 31st and it was very cold all week! We were wearing scarves and gloves. The temp went up the day we were leaving!

:wave2:Definitly bring at least 2 pairs of long pants, and a sweatjacket just in case...because we were totally not prepared for the cold weather we got hit with 2 days into our stay....and you don't want to have to purchase jackets for everyone,etc...very expensive mistake.
