How do you all think Josh sounded in the group sing last night? I know it's not the same as the "competition" but I think he did a great job and that it was more indicative of his talent.

I hate to say it, but I'm buying into the Boss' conspiracy theory. Not a conspiracy, really, but if the majority of the show's demographics is white, it holds to reason that it could influence the voting. Is it right? No. But that could explain it.

I floated this theory on another thread, but I will bring to you good people to think about as well. I love how all your minds work.

Of all the AI contestants we know Josh the best. Think about it. We know Clay works with kids, we know Ruben is representin' 205, we know Kimberly was on her way to law school and the things we know about Trenyce were NOT idol like. Now Josh, we know he is a marine, we know he is married, we know he has a kid, and he picked a crappy, unknown song because it meant something to him and his wife. He is the one that has let us most into his life. In the pre-song interviews he often reveals more about himself than the other ones do. Perhaps there are more people who feel an attachment to him for this. I know this is one of the reasons I like him so much. I know it is to be based on singing, but how many of us liked Kelly last season for more than just her singing?

Sorry Jas, I am going to have to disagree with you. We Know Josh the best? Well he is a Marine and as a Marine I always thought that they listen to their elders, follow orders without questioning them or people die (A Few Good Men). If that is the case then he failed the Marine Credo. I would agree that Kelly last year was and hopefully will remain “the girl next door” but I do not see anything different this year from Clay to Josh when looking at their human side. Both seem like descent young men, both are family oriented and both attract a large fan base. Personally I feel that saying that all the 13-17 year old girls that voted did so on the basis of his good nature and so forth is giving too much credit to the majority of the voters.

You can't tell me the pure demographics are 13-17. Sorry not buying it. American Idol appears to go across age spectrum. If I was to pick a demographic I would say more females than males watch it though (using unscientific data taken from the DIS). And females respond more to knowing people better, having a soft spot for someone like Josh.

Have you ever seen the studio audience or read any of the fan boards? How about when ever they show outside shots of the studio? I might have to agree come to think of it Jas, I should have said 10-13 year old girls. Speaking of soft spot, America does not have a soft spot for the geeky kid who lost his father the previous year and works with autistic children? Talk about the All American Dream of Going from geek to chic.

As an ultimate geek in middle school who lost her father at an early age and has worked with kids herself (although not autistic) I guess I should be rooting for Clay then, huh?

The teenagers you see outside the studio, in the studio and everywhere else that the idols show up are just that: teenagers who would actually bother to be there (well them and OT)

HOWEVER - the show is watched by SEVERAL more people then 10 - 17 year olds...all these stupid reality shows are watched by *older people* Survivor, Bachelor, Bachlorette etc...

BUT (there is ALWAYS a but) are these *adults* going to phone is frigging 50 times for their favourites?!? Most of them? Hell no...the teenagers? They are calling for 2 hours straight for their favourites...

hence the reason that although there may be JUST as many teens are there are adults watching the show...then teenagers' votes will ALWAYS win out - probably like a 10 to 1, if not more...(why the heck else was Justin around till the end last year?!? Tymara SHOULD have kicked his butt, but HE was a hot young N'Sync type guy...)

Hmm I guess my kids are strange then. They don't like Josh at all. There goes me relying on them for my inside teeny bopper scoop. Funny thing Madonna, I know 2 teenage girls, twins, my wife's cousins and they were split. One thought that Josh was a hottie and the other loved Clay because of his geekiness (she said that he reminded her of Finch ... I guess from American Pie)
