I was looking at rates for the week after Thanksgiving 2006 and figured since that will be a busy week, I will see what a monorail resort would cost for the 8 nights Nov 24-Dec 2.

The cheapest room at the Contemporay (Tower Magic Kingdom View) came out to $3791 for the trip or $473.87 a night. Also I noticed that the room names are changing:

Tower Concierge Room included
Deluxe Garden 1 Bedroom Suite
Bedroom Hospitality Suite
Bedroom Lake View Suite
Tower Magic Kingdom View

Are they redoing the Contemporary and that's why it is so expensive, or is this what it always has been during this time.

Thanksgiving is the 23rd of 2006 so you are checking into a hotel during a high season.

I thought i read somewhere that if you checked in during one season then you were charged that rate for your whole stay. So even though you go down to a value season after the Thanksgiving weekend is over you may be charged at a higher season rate for your entire stay. am i making sense??

Try checking the rate if you did not arrive until the monday after thanksgiving ie. November 27 or consider moving back one week. Not only do you get the value or regular season rate but you get to enjoy all the beautiful holiday decorations

Try changing your dates to 3 or 4 days later into Value Season and see what you come up with...

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't even think about the season change when I was looking at the dates.

By changing my dates to Nov 26-Dec 3, I can stay at the following:

Contemporary Tower Magic Kingdom View room only: $3004.96 (Saving $786.04)
Contemporary Tower Magic Kingdom View pkg w/tickets: $3245.65 (Saving $545.35)
Polynesian Lagonview room only: $3200.05 (Saving $590.95)
Polynesian Lagonview pkg w/tickets: $3440.74 (Saving $240.69)

I think the Poly garden view is a good price considering we were in Fiji (Garden room) and had a lagoon view...

that would be even cheaper I think...

I don't think those are new room names, other than "Tower Magic Kingdom View," which is now a new category where you can pay extra and get a guaranteed MK view room. I think what's going on there is that you're looking at dates where everything else -- garden rooms and standard tower rooms -- are currently either blocked out or sold out.

Same thing happens if you look for the second week in December 2006. Must be conventions or something.

MOMOFMNM,

You are correct. From Nov 26-Dec 3, 2006 a gardenview room at the Poly would be $2458.61 and each extra night would be $351.23 a night.
