WDW veteran looking for Disneyland help

The PhotoPass does come with MaxPass, but you don’t need to buy it for every person just for photos. If you don’t need MP one day because it is not as crowded or you are going to do paper Fp’s then just buy it for one person.

You can take the plastic photopass cards and add them to you account, or just pull up the barcode in the app and the photographer can scan that. That’s what we do. Some people like to screenshot that barcode and make it their screensaver too, for quick access.

That screenshot thing is brilliant!!! Why have I never heard of/thought of that before? Thank you!

We have stayed many times onsite but this time (here right now) we’re staying at the Hyatt regency. Honestly, it’s so easy to call an Uber it costs $5 to get us there and the longest we’ve waited is 3 minutes, 5 minute drive to parks/hotel. I just could not justify spending $400+ A night on PPH or $550 on DLH this time. Uber is so easy and so cheap, cheaper and faster then the shuttle you have to pay for at other good neighbor hotels.

Just my 2 cents worth, don’t be afraid to look a little further from the park and Uber in. Hyatt regency is a beautiful hotel!

That’s not all locals, a lot of that is people who took an afternoon break at their hotel, just like you did ;-) It is so easy to do if you stay on Harbor, very short walk, so lots of people do that.

Ah, I see this is true

With the max pass, you can secure FP on the app, but mist it be at the park or can you do it in advance?

This thread has lots of good information: A DLR Guide for WDW Vets.
Take a look at this thread, too: https://www.disboards.com/threads/choosing-the-right-dlr-area-hotel-for-you.3656512/.
This link can help you with DLR menus and ballpark budgeting (round up!): http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneyland/dining/menus.cfm.
As the pp said, dining reservations are much more relaxed at DLR. Very few things require reservations at the 60 day mark. If you know for certain that you want to dine at a particular TS location (e.g. Blue Bayou in DL) or that you want certain dining packages (e.g. F! Dining Packages), then go ahead and book them early. But you can do this online or by phone, and you don't have to wait by the phone in the middle of the night. Some things do book quickly, like certain holiday meals or the Afternoon Tea at Steakhouse 55, so do book early for those.

That thread is invaluable. Thanks for the link!

Yes you have to be scanned into the park for the day. Once you scan in, immediately begin booking. You can book them even if the rope hasn't dropped in the morning. If you go back to your hotel mid-afternoon, you can still book maxpass because the system doesn't scan you out. Just make sure to look at what time you are allowed to book the next one and do so.

Is it the same as FP+ where you can book 3 a day?

You can book as many as you have the capacity for. There is no limit to the quantity you can get, just to how soon you can book one after the last one (maximum 90 minutes).

Don't forget to either take a picture or make a note of the number on ride photos if you want those. They have to be entered individually into the app.

Can you please expound? You said "maximum 90 minutes". Unless I am missing something, I don't understand that. At WDW, you can book 3 FPs in advance, then after you use those in the parks, you can get more one at a time. The other stipulation is that a FP window is 60 minutes to use and it cannot overlap with another one you already have booked (either in advance or at the park kiosk). Are you saying that the FP window is 90 minutes - with the same non-overlap rule? Or is the window still the same 60 minutes but you must leave 90 minutes between windows? Confused. Thanks!

You can book a FastPass either as soon as your window to use your previous FastPass opens, or 90 minutes after you got it, whichever comes first. So, if you book a FP for BTMRR at 8:30 am and its window opens at 9:05 am, you can book a new FP at 9:05. If you then book a FP for RSR and its window opens at noon, you can book your next FP at 10:35. You can definitely have overlapping FPs as a result. The only non-overlapping rule is that you cannot have two active FPs for the same attraction at the same time. That is, you have to USE that FP for RSR before you can book another for that ride.

Ok. Thank you. A related question, then, if we have an idea of how we want to go through a day, with the help of touring plans or a similar site, am I right in saying that if you book a FP to avoid long lines for a ride that we will want to do later in the evening, that we would still be able to book a 7pm-ish FP using MaxPass. But, would that then prevent us from also having FP for different rides earlier in the day? Like, must we finish a FP window before beginning a new one, all day, and luck of the draw determines whether we get it or not later on? When we plan, we like to avoid jumping and bouncing back and forth and double-backing to things wevwe already passed by.

As a previous poster said, you can book a new fastpass either once the window of your previous fastpass opens up, OR 90 minutes after making your last fastpass, whichever comes first. So no, having a fastpass for the evening does not prevent you from making and using fastpasses throughout the morning and afternoon. The only problem is you can't really CHOOSE an evening (or choose times in general) fastpass. If you want certain ones at night you'll just have to keep checking what time they are giving them out for and book when they finally offer you the time you want. If you're looking for super popular rides at night, such as Racers or Incredicoaster, you'll be able to book those late morning because they run out quickly.

Ok. Thanks again for all your help, everyone! Regardless of the potential Star Wars land timing, which we realize would change everything, when taking full advantage of Morning hours, MaxPass, and full open-to-close hours, how much of the two parks can feasibly and reasonably done in a day? According to Touring Plans, crowds are estimated between 6 and 8 for each day of both our potential timeframe windows. I was initially thinking one full day for each park, then a third day of park hopping to make up anything we missed.
Thoughts?

We were able to put together a whole evening at DCA while we were taking our break, with FPs for RSR (after dark), GotG, IC, and TSMM just judiciously watching return times and booking for the ones most likely to run out first. Unfortunately, IC went down for the whole evening on Sunday (our only chance to ride it after dark, sadly), and it turned into an ME, but that was fine.

We would probably do the same if only making one trip a year(2600 miles) but we usually try to do 2. We will see if coming out ahead with the new AP price increase.

Jack
