Alas, the magical and wonderful music scores that were included on the Walt Disney World Today channel have been replaced by a kind of generic classical track that is more symphonic than Disneyesque. Another bit of Disney magic has been eroded.

:faint:

What is the Walt Disney World Today Channel? Is that an official WDW product or something else? Classical music doesn't require the licensing fees that more contemporary music does.

I noticed that! The famous song from the Nutcracker ballet was playing while I was reading off the Epcot times on my TV last week and I was like... what? LOL.

If you stay at a Walt Disney World resort, when you turn on your TV, it should be preset to the WDW Today Channel. It's an informational station with the times guides to the parks, and yes, it's an official WDW station. It had Disney music playing in the background for a very, very long time. I'm not sure why they changed it, and I don't really care, but it is a weird change nonetheless.

Thanks Newsies! I spaced out that it was called WDW today. Years ago I actually recorded the music on a mini-disc. It was a nice selection of songs, but clearly was a low budget effort as it was essentially a keyboard concoction.

Must have been some kind of licensing agreement that expired for them to have changed it.

Yeah, it was probably a pretty low-budget operation. It kinda reminded me of Disney themed elevator music. But I guess people really liked it, since this isn't the first post online I've seen about the changes to WDW today.

The new musical mix (it's been on for about a half hour in our room) combines a handful of Disney tunes with some symphonic pieces. It's pleasant enough, and it complements the new WDW Today screen graphics, but it lacks the pure Disney charm of its predecessor (especially the former "Alice in Wonderland" title theme).

As the author of a Disney Legend's bio (who had a musical success or two) --- and the contributor to a popular Disney music exhibit a few seasons ago --- let's just say that music matters.

:charac2:

All the best! :thumbsup2

I still YouTube the old TV music often. We have been going to the parks yearly since 1998. Its always nice to tune in the channels when you get there and hear the music. I have seen a clip of the new theme. Its ok but not as "DISNEY" as the past. Will see how we all like it in November at the Fort.

BC your work sounds interesting. Any chance you could elaborate a bit on your background?

Micca: You are most kind; however, allow me to remain under a semi-shroud of anonymity on the wonderful DISboards.

May you and yours continue on a Disney journey that is filled with good health, success and happiness.

All the best! :thumbsup2

It isn't just the soundtrack-WDW Today has a whole new format.:)(I do like that the Park Hours are constantly onscreen now.)
