Just heard this on the radio. Said they would be testing them after hours in the parks with park employees. Need to see if monorail would interfer with their effectiveness. Said it was not in response to any particular threat just another step in an ongoing process to keep WDW secure.

Hmmmmm.......

Really? Yikes...that might slow things down more than the bag checks.

But, then again ... all those people who are constantly complaining that the bag checks are a joke will be pleased ...

:earsboy:

Not at all. I think the bag checks are a joke and I think the metal detectprs are a joke. I just went to a six plags park with metal detectors. They made me empty my pockets of change, but my daughter's stroller was let through despite the metal detector's buzzing and it was never checked by hand. I could have smuggled in an UZI in the basket under the carriage and no one would have noticed.

I think with the correct procedures it will be great. I never understood why they didn't have something alittle more like airport security in the first place.

I am 100% for this. The bag checks are a nice thing -but not effective. If it means I have to wait a bit longer - fine.

... this is a good thing. And metal detectors can be adjusted to detect different "amounts" of metal. They may be able to adjust the sensitivity so that small change and things won't go off.

I agree also. In todays world I would rather be safe than sorry and if having to wait a little longer to feel more secure, than I am all for it.

I hope it goes faster than Busch Gardens Williamsburg did for me! Granted, it was Free Military Day and it was packed. It took us after buying our tickets 1 1/2 hrs!!! to get through the metal detectors the last time I went! We also spent 1 1/2 hrs before that waiting in line to get in the parking lot and buying our tickets, but that's another story. :D

Metal detectors and bag check are a complete waste of time.

A terrorist is not going to use a gun to create terror at Disney. A terrorist is going to use explosive, chemical or biological weapons that will not be detected by either metal detectors or bag checks. A terrorist wants to kills hundreds/thousands, a gun will not accomplish that grand of an act.

For example, we used to take baby formula in ziplop plastic bags. Only once were we asked what it was. It could have been a biological or a chemical weapon.

On the Internet people think it is a good idea for metal detectors. When they are standing in line waiting to enter the parks people aren't happy.

I stood in a line today waiting to enter Epcot. There was a lot of complaining going on because there wasn't a No bags line. So I can just imagine what is going to happen.

Knowing Disney they will try to find the fastest way to do this but does this make me feel safer? Not really!!! I feel the same way about the security efforts at the airport. Nice try but they have a long way to do to tighten up security.

Same with the parks, are they going to tighten up security for all the vendors that enter the parks, etc. ?

I doubt the intent is to prevent everything, it's to do the best job possible. It may not catch terrorists, but it will catch someone with a gun. I'd be happy if the metal detectors are able to catch one person and prevent one injury or death. Then the waiting doesn't seem so bad does it?

It won't prevent someone from getting shot or injured, just maybe someone inside WDW. The bad guy can choose to shoot someone outside the gates if they still want to cause a disturbance at WDW.

The highway speed limits could be lowered to 20 miles-per-hour which would likely prevent at least one person from getting injured or killed, but I wouldn't be happy with that either.

This may make some people feel safer, but I don't think it can actually prevent anything.

All the "window dressing" security measures that Disney employs are incase something happens in the parks Disney can claim (in a court) that they did everything they could to prevent it.
