Disney World to expand Saratoga Springs

Disney World officials today announced plans for Phase III of its new Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, adding another 276 units by 2OO7.

The resort opened this month with 184 units. Al Weiss, Walt Disney World president, said 75 percent of Phase I has been sold.

When Phase II is completed -- 368 units by 2OO5 -- the time-share resort built on the site of the former Disney Institute will have 828 accommodations.

Saratoga is the seventh and largest of the Disney Vacation Club properties.

If you look at the SSR map, it shows a total of 12 buildings, one is complete, the other 11 are in various stages of construction. Are these announced new units in addition to the 12 ? I assume they are because CM's have said that the Fairway Villas were to be torn down & additional SSR units installed. Also was told the Treehouses would be taken over by the DVC.

Sales for DVC are obviously going very well to continue with this expansion.

I'm not sure if the OP is referring to some sort of "new, previously unannounced, and unplanned" expansion, or simply that work is beginning on Phase III. OKW was also built in phases, and actually they tore down and replaced the original sales center with 3 "new" buildings (62, 63 & 64) sometime after the resort had initially "sold out". But these plans were all made clear from day one in the public offering statement. This may simply be an announcement that construction is beginning on "Phase III".

We attended our SSR preview as part of DVC Member Homecoming last Wednesday & no one mentioned this story. I later heard it from a fellow DVC member who read the local paper that morning.
