Does anyone know if they have begun tearing up the track yet? We'll be down in September and we'd love to get several pieces of the track.
It will always be a special place for us, we attended each Indy Car race and happen to be friends with the guy who took the checkered flag back at the first Indy Car race there in 1996. It would be fun to be able give him and his father a piece of the track.

It does not look like they have began tearing it down as of yesterday. Saw it when we left Magic yesterday and it looked 100% in tact. I remember that race as well. Buddy Lazier won in '96 if I am not mistaken. Some guy named Tony Stewart finished 7th there as well Remember guys used to call it the 'Mick'yard on a play of course from the Brickyard.

Actually, Buzz Calkins won the 1996 Indy 200, Tony Stewart finished 2nd. And they are two of my favorite people in the world! Both Great Guys!!

I don't think that many people cared about the Richard Petty Driving Experience, so it's just as well

We had to go to lost & found at Magic on Tuesday and the track is right there. I saw a lot of heavy equipment there and it looked as though some of the pavement had begun to be taken out. We did not get that close (sorry) but it looks like, to me, that they have started taken it down.

From what I saw, it didn't look like they had gotten very far, so you may still have a chance to see some of the track on your visit. Bow much will or will not be done by then is a total coin toss.

Drove past yesterday and the demolition process has officially begun! The walls are being torn down, the track, etc. There were a ton of construction vehicles working on the destruction yesterday evening.
