WDW Should Not Open in July. Discuss.

My frustration comes from the many that keep finding ways to justify opening everything.

There are a LOT of us that feel the same way. There are many things that have been allowed to open that I feel little thought was given to the implications. But your reasoning comes of kind of selfish. Your reason is not so that everyone is safe & healthy. It is because you think it will allow you to ride coasters later. It has nothing to do with your preference of local amusement parks over Disney parks.

Or that some have looked at the CDC guidance and determined that for their age and health, Covied-19 is not something that should be feared, respected, but not feared.

Or that some remain ignorant of facts. I’m not afraid of dying from Covid. Percentages are low.
But what should concern people is the percentage of patients with lung scarring or other bad side effects.

IMO your local economy includes you local theme park if open.

Where I live cases are low enough that parks can open safely. Yes for months I have been against it and it all had to do the amount of cases. I love all amusement parks and love visiting them. If parks opened here in Ontario I would be ok with going as we have handled this quite well. People can change their mind.

What is it you want?
Two weeks ago you were upset the US was opening too soon, especially by opening theme parks. . But when it got down to it, you were upset that the border was closed and YOU couldn’t go to the parks, but would if you were able. Now you’re upset they’re open and we aren’t going? I can’t keep up with what you actually want.

And please stop using Ontario as the poster child for this pandemic. As has been pointed out both other posters AND the numbers, Ontario is far from being on top from the best handling of this. You can continue looking at percent positive, but you have to stop ignoring the death rate where you live, especially if you’re going to continue to dump on the US.

I have explained, as have others, why you have to stop the comparisons between Ontario and the US. I clearly spelled out the difference between CA and Ontario to you earlier today. And stop acting like we’re all ok with how things are going here. The fact that you continue to argue the same point to every single discussion means you are choosing to obtuse to the actual facts.

First. I will say parks where cases are high shouldn't open yet. As far as local parks, I love traveling all over the US to visit amusement parks and it saddens me to see so many almost hate on them. It will break my heart to see any park close.

Nobody has hated on a single amusement park. We’ve just said we aren’t comfortable going - for a wide variety of reasons. However you’ve gotten upset with those who say they are going because you think things opened too early. You have repeatedly said indoor dining and amusement parks shouldn’t have opened. You don’t get to have it both ways.

I don't think the parks should open. We have over 10,000 cases per day in Florida. I think that generally the parks are the least likely place you'll catch Covid, since every one is wearing a mask, but it isn't worth the risk.

I went to Disney Springs about a week ago for a couple ours. Between the heat and humidity, the mask was miserable (I typically don't mind wearing a mask. I am use to it after 12 years of working at the bedside). I would not want to spend all day at disney in a mask. I also felt like some of the magic was gone. It was the same Disney Springs, but the carefree blissful atmosphere was not there. I think the parks will be disappointing and lose some of the magic when they reopen.

Non-US'er here. I'm not too familiar with how local politics work in the US. Who has the authority to say: the parks have to close down again? Is that just the governor or also mayors or other officals?

They’re too big to fail.

No company is too big to fail. Has happened before. Didn’t Disney take on tons of debt last year buying Fox? Sudden stop of revenues will hurt any healthy corporation. Look at the airlines. Many were healthy and has billions in reserves , low debt and now need bailouts items they fail.

Folks who think that COVID in 19 is probably not that big a deal should read threads like this and wonder if you think you could luck out and not be one of the thousands of people with long haul COVID.

Although age and health are major factors, there seems to be a random sample of young, healthy people who are getting nailed by COVID-19.

Wearing a mask is a bit like wearing a seatbelt. Do you really want to bet your life that you'll be fine without a seatbelt/mask?

Ha. I'm an American, and the answer is....who knows? It's been a complete patchwork/ad hoc response in our country. There's only guidance from the CDC...no national response at all. The rule in NJ is that our governor is calling the shots. And we've banded together with NY, CT and PA at times....as a region. In Florida, the governor seems to be operating like the federal government....deferring to local officials to make decisions. For example, the mayor of Miami closed the beaches for the July 4th holiday weekend. But...because this is Disney, a huge economic engine for the state, I'm thinking the governor is likely in close consultation with the authorities in Orange County and Disney management.

You'd be surprised at the number of people who do feel ok risking not wearing a seat belt. They don't want the government intruding on "their rights"

My guess is the governor of Florida or the President of the US (very very unlikely) possibly the local/county officials.

In California the Governor says you can open or must close but local/county officials can be more restrictive.

This going to be debated for a long time. I would like to think Florida will do something to do something to turn this trend around, but unlikely. Spin spin spin. I do look at the numbers, and do my best to assess risk. My county with higher case counts then some states daily for the past week - no plans to visit a theme park. Getting a bit weary of how it’s the younger “folks” being the cause. Close the bars, wait reopen the bars for the 4th of July weekend. Oga reservations now available. Isn’t this the same age group out there opening economy, cannot have it both ways. While also having to monitor older “folk” to wear face coverings. i do not know the average age of Disney workers, but I’m guessing young. Disney is warning guests of the risk involved, but here they come. The next twelve months are going to be long and difficult for many people. Not the 4th of July message I wish I was posting. 11 thousand plus today in Florida - while Rome burns....

It's like those in charge are watching people getting into a leaky boat and instead of helping, they shout from the sideline : You should stop the leak!

Schools don’t open for a little over a month, but still no clue how that’s going to happen. My daughter goes to school in Orange County and my wife is a teacher in neighboring Lake County. We’ve heard absolutely nothing yet from either County about any plans. I really don’t want them to go back. No clue what we’re going to do if Florida goes through with reopening schools.

Ahh, ok. I thought I heard two weeks, but that is early. Schools are going to be problematic everywhere, but treacherous in Florida. The governor really needs to do something to slow this thing down in his state. Eventually hospitals in certain areas will reach capacity and deaths will begin to spike if this continues.
