WDW says Heelys not permitted in Parks

I hope someday your child gets in a fight at school and someone of your equal comes along and sues you because your child knocked his food tray over ruining his school day and causing him mental anguish.

My "child" has been out fo school for a couple of years now, and managed to get rhough it without getting into fights or knocking over someone's cafeteria tray. But thanks for your concern.

I finally got thur all the pages of this thread and I am astonished by the ignorance of some "adults". Why do some people think that the rules do not apply to them and continue to debate the subject as if they are right. Do you have no respect or common courtesy for others. How hard is it to understand - YOU DO NOT SKATE IN PUBLIC PLACES, NOT AT WDW, THE GROCERY STORE OR WHERE OTHERS ARE. If you come skating by house on the sidewalk that is one thing - but to be rolling around in a public place where others are - that is just plain RUDE. And people wonder why our society is so screwed up - IT IS THE IGNORANCE OF THE PARENTS AND THE WAY THAT THEY RAISE THEIR CHILDREN. Oh wait I forget - some people are exempt from the rules and can do what ever they want. I hope when we return to WDW those that feel they can do skate when they want are there. If I see you there and your children are there on their heeleys and they are on the ground don't think I will have enough "common sense" to walk around them. Nope - did not see the sign that says you must walk around them I will just walk right over them.

If you have read through this thread, you would have realized that we are not going to skate in crowds, or places where it is not allowed, like WDW. We skate in places where it is allowed, that are basically empty. If I found an entire aisle in the grocery store that was empty, and I checked with an employee that Heelys were allowed there, I would've skated a little bit, making sure not to harm anybody.

The running kids were "participating in a risky behaviour that by any reasonable standard could be foreseen to cause injury to another". Why didn't you sue them?

Because I wasn't injured, and their activity while obnoxious wasn't illegal. Maybe you need to reread my posts. I'm talking about being INJURED by someone participating in an ILLEGAL activity.

It is common knowledge that noone in this society is perfect and follows all the rules. Everyone chooses which ones they are going to follow. However, I don't think those on this board were saying they were choosing not to follow the one about the Heelys, they said they would follow it. Last time I checked noone on this board had the power to control who follows what rules. Everyone should take a look in the mirror.

ECV's are not illegal. Lightning is an act of God. Heely's are illegal. That's the difference.

We aren't "special people". We know the rules apply to us, and that's why we're following them. Heelys are NOT ILLEGAL IN MANY PLACES. We will NOT skate in WDW. We will NOT skate in another Florida theme park. We will NOT skate somewhere where Heelys are not allowed.

Exactly! The Heelys instructions clearly state to not roll faster than you can run.

...and also to wear protective pads and helmet, and not to use them in venues with many pedestrians. Guess that leaves out stores, malls, and WDW. I do believe WDW also prohibits skating on the resorts' sidewalks and parking lots.

ECV's are not illegal but they should make the person driving/riding one take a course on using one.

I watched a person run over a little kid waiting to go into bear blue house at MGM 2 yrs ago.

I know people need them but I think they should make sure they can properly use one.

My Mother in law has one but I wouldn't let her in the parks with it.

You get no argument from me on that one. *Most* of the people who have their own are pretty good with them. But the people who have never used one before are often a menace.

I know that when we're in WDW this Fri., he will see kids on Heely's and will be soooo mad at me for not allowing it. But rules are rules and it's something I won't bend on.

So, for those of you at WDW from 8/11-8/21 ... if you get run over or bumped by a kid w/heely's, it won't be MY kid doing it!!!

I'm going to be dealing with the exact same situation next week at Disney. I've already told my DS9 he won't be bringing them b/c they are not allowed. I just KNOW we'll see many kids on them and DS will have his little pouting/poor me episode "but THEY are wearing there Heeley's! Why didn't you let me bring them?" etc., etc. So... like Daxx said, if you are at Disney from 8/15 to 8/22 and see kids on Heeleys, it won't be mine!

1. Just back yesterday-- saw Heelys everywhere
2. I am not a fan of Heelys
3. Even though they were everywhere, I never saw anyone making a nuisance of themselves on heelys (unlike other guests--see my upcoming post on the "shock" thread )
4. I never saw a CM speak to a guest for heely use
5.. Most people in the parks do not follow the disboards, so they will be everywhere on your trip, too

I would rather have a few thousand people like Ducklite in the park with me than a few thousand who think that they are special and rules don't apply to them!

No one has talked about suing over a bruise. But if I receive broken bones, or need stitches because an adult allowed their child to break the rules and skate at Disney, yes I would sue! And I would probably sue Disney for not enfocing their own rules too!!
