So... like Daxx said, if you are at Disney from 8/15 to 8/22 and see kids on Heeleys, it won't be mine!
You and I rock, Nance!!!! :thumbsup2

If you have read through this thread, you would have realized that we are not going to skate in crowds, or places where it is not allowed, like WDW. We skate in places where it is allowed, that are basically empty. If I found an entire aisle in the grocery store that was empty, and I checked with an employee that Heelys were allowed there, I would've skated a little bit, making sure not to harm anybody.

Who's to say that empty aisle would remain empty. As your "skating" down the aisle a little old lady comes arould the corner and BAM you run into her. Whose fault would it be - certainly not yours - it would of been the little old lady minding her own business. RIGHT? Whose fault would it been when you run into a display - yours or the stores. I have no problem with someone who is using them out in open spaces - the park, empty lots, sidewalks -etc.
They should not be used by anyone where there are others that it could affect someone else.

I would rather have a few thousand people like Ducklite in the park with me than a few thousand who think that they are special and rules don't apply to them!
I totally agree. If DS9 has to follow the rules of no heely's, then EVERY other kid in the stinking park should follow that rule, too! NO exceptions!!!! That's why there are rules, folks!

Maybe someone should email Disney and ask what their policy would be if someone got hurt by someone else wearing Heelys on WDW property, and why the CMs don't enforce the rules?

WE DO!!! We tell the kids they are not allowed to skate, but they just take the skates out again later. Security needs to take away the wheels and then there would not be any problems.

I think that if security or a CM catches a kid zipping around on heely's, they should confiscate the wheels, put them in an envelope w/the person's name, address, resort, etc. and send them to City Hall where they can be stored in a separate bin, alphabetically by last name, and returned to the owner upon park departure.

Maybe more parents would "get it" if they had to go through the trouble of picking up confiscated wheels.

I wish we could do that. I'm going to find out if we can.

Joanna71985, thank you for being a CM that enforces the rules. People have posted on this board that some CMs don't say anything to kids on Heelys, or ask them 'cool' questions about the shoes...

First of all, you only skate for a few feet, then stop again, very easily. So, it would take a lot of ignorance to crash into anything.

And, everyone who says that we think the rules don't apply to us, stop to read our other posts. You're the ones who made that up.

The reason people think that is because you have posted about 50 times defending your right to use them. Even though you have stated you won't. :confused3 l

The point isn't how well you can skate in them- the point is that they are NOT allowed in the Disney parks.

Did you read the last part of my post? We will NOT, I repeat NOT, skate in the Disney parks.

Some just can't seem to let this topic go.

Now where did that dead horse disappear to again ... ? :stir:

QUOTE]

I was crashed into in our Kaufmann's yesterday by a possibly 8 or 9 yr old child on heelies coming like gangbusters around a clothing display. He kept on going and I was pushed into the rack. He moved like he was wearing in-line skates, but they were heelies. No mom or any adult in sight - bummer.

And was it the kid's fault for not stopping, or was it the Heely's fault? That's not what Heelys are intended for.

It was the parent's fault for being an idiot and letting her kid wear them in a store and the kid's fault for not watching where he was going. No one blaming heely's for anything.

That is right! Heelys are not intended to be worn where there are large groups of people--in a store, or amusement park! Now unless the kid walked himself to the store for the sole purpose of skating around, it is the parent's fault for letting him wear them. That is all the people who have posted here want, for people to wear them someplace appropriate! Not around large groups of pedestrians!!!

Heelys are not bad in themselves, it is the people who have no respect for others, who mow others down, or wear them where they shouldn't that cause the problems!!!!!

Her is an interesting post over on the CM's board.
Ok... so by now I'm sure there isn't a one among you that hasn't seen the Heelys in the parks (and those of you that haven't: they're sneakers that have a wheel mounted in the heel of the shoe so they can be used rather like roller skates). And yes, according to management, they are probited in the parks, and we're supposed to say something to the guests who come in wearing them.

So I'm outside working FP Return, when I see a party come striding towards the FastPass line. Mom has a GAC ( guest assistence pass) in one hand, and is towing her kid with the other, who is rolling along in his Heelys. As they approach I smile and say, "Well, howdy there, pardners. I'll be happy to let you in, but I'm afraid I have some bad news for ya there. We don't allow roller-skating in the park, so I need you to remove the wheels from your shoes."

Mom glares at me. "We don't have a wheel-removal tool!"

"Not necessary, ma'am. The wheels snap out by hand. The only tool you'll need is the tool to remove the heel plugs you put in afterwards. And since we don't allow roller skating in the parks, that shouldn't be a problem." (Note: No, I don't have a pair of Heelys. I looked the info up on their website since I deal with this situation so frequently.)

"But he's handicapped!" she snapped.

Needless to say, I was stunned, but quickly recovered. "Then I recommend he use a wheelchair or an ECV, both of which we have available for rental. But we cannot allow roller-skates."

Guest snorted, rolled her eyes, and stalked off up the line. <sigh> Just another SGT.
So some of the parents are just as stupid as the kids, if not more.

I am just back from WDW and I couldn't belive how many kids I saw with them on. My daughter has them and asked if she would wear them and I said absolutely not!

I had never even heard of them until we went to Disney in June. There were more kids with them than without. I dunno, they seem a little dangerous to me because my daughter tells me that the wheel is always there, not like the roller shoes she used to have a couple of years ago. Seems like if you step wrong you will be landing on the back of your noggin. ouch. Neat enough little invention, but I doubt I would have let either of mine wear them to Disney. I would have been too worried they would roll in to someone.
