WDW Restaurants - Peanut Allergy

1st time family going spring 2008...
My DW & DS both have a severe peanut allergy!!!
Looking for any experience with this at WDW.
Can you point us to some restaurants that you know serve peanut products so we can avoid them.
We have had a couple of horrible experiences in restaurants with peanuts and the last thing we want on the most exciting of family vacations is to end up in an emergency ward.
I know I am going to call each restaurant we decide on (with your help) and prepare them ahead of time.

I'd avoid O'hana's...as I remember, they serve a peanut sauce on the table.

I would look at the menus of any restaraunts that you are interested in to gage which ones may be p-nut unfriendly.

Also, I believe you can call WDW-DINE or even the restaraunts directly to arrange for any special dietary needs.

Someone else have any experience with this?

My DS5 also has a peanut allergy.
We have never had a problem at WDW. When you make your ADR's tell them that you have peanut allergies. At TS the chef will come out to the table and go over the menu with you. He/She will let you know what to avoid and what is OK. Lots of the time they can even make a dish just for you. They have done a great job with DS.
That being said we are never w/o two Epi-pens at all times, and wipes ( I wipe everything down!)

You will not have a problem but you will have even more options and peace of mind if you contact WDW in advance. They can send you information on "safe" foods and you can make reservations at places that are within your comfort level.

My child has multiple food allergies and we never eat out--with one exception--Disney!

We went with a family who had a DD w/ a peanut allergy. Our first meal was a CRT, her allergy was mentioned and the head chef came out and spoke with us at great length. He also gave his card with the invitation to call at any time with questions. There were no problems during the stay, and the CM's were great about making sure her food choices were safe.

Disney is great at accommodating guest needs!

The DISabilities board has lots of info on WDW with food allergies.

I recommend the Dining Plan because you will want at least 1 Table Service meal a day (they are by far the easiest way to eat with allergies).

Also you will have no issues carrying an Epi Pin in the parks.

You DO NOT need to avoid a place because they have peanuts on the menu unless your DW or DS is so allergic they have issues with airborne particles. They will take care to clean your table extra well, and the Chef will come out to speak to you. They are very careful and do understand food allergies.

Our DD10 has a severe dairy allergy so we have worked around it on each of our yearly trips. I can add that at most CS places you will find, or ask for, a binder with all the details of the ingredients in the food.

I know it is a major concern but I am sure you will be able to find out what you need to know.

I have been researching the same thing for a friend who will be traveling with us and has a DD3 with a peanut and egg allergy. I found a great post which I copy and pasted and sent to my friend. I am quoting it to you now but I don't know where I saw the post so I can't give proper credit to whoever wrote it:

"First contact Brenda Bennett now and let her know when you will be there she will send you a list of safe foods in the parks.

Second any ADR's you have call back and have them note the peanut allergy, if they don't give you the phone numbers to the resturants ask for them. You can call before you arrive and let them know you will be there on a certain day and they will help you with the menu.
I have never called in advance, I just had it noted and when we got to the resturant we reminded the waitress and then the Chef came out and helped us chose the right food.
But basically I have found that any child menu food has always been safe, except of course the PB sandwitch. Even though it is safe the chef will make it personally and deliver it to you and will be there right through dessert.
At buffets the chef will walk you though the buffet and let you know about all the food.

My son is big on chicken nuggets and hot dogs and fries so most of the time we had it easy.
The Itzakoodize and Mickey ice cream bars are safe foods.
They now sell Divves packaged cookies and popcorn that are made in a Peanut Free Place.

The email you get from Brenda will have all this information.
We have been told any bread/roll that is brought to the table is not safe because they do not make it.
Wolf Gang Pucks on the West Side at Downtown Disney use Peanut oil in just about everything they make, so we stay away from there.

My son has never been deprived with any food in Disney, there is alot he can have there they will go out of their way for you. My son is just not a big eater.
If you want him to have cake of any kid for dessert, then I would call ahead of time and they will make something safe for him. We had a birthday cake for my son for is Bday one year.

Just tell everyone everywhere you get food thay will help you."

I also have a severe Peanut allergy and have never had any trouble at WDW. If I ever have and questions about items on the menu I ask our server and they have always got the chef's to go over the menus with me. When we ate at Boma afew years ago one of the chef's came out and walked me through the buffet pointing out what I should leave alone. We ate at O'hanas last year and I asked our server to not bring the peanut sause to our table so that I would not get any by accident. When you make your ADR's have them put down that your sons have an peanut allergy. WDW is very good about this.

Two of my kids have severe peanut/tree nut allergies and we didn't experience a single problem at WDW. When you make a reservation, the allergies are noted, so when you check in, the host/hostess has you flagged. Chefs came out at every TS restaurant to talk about menu options. At buffets, the chef walked us through to let us know what was safe. I would avoid Chinese food, because the risk of cross-contamination is so great. Also, Wolfgang Puck restaurants are iffy. Their favorite frying oil is peanut and I never got a good answer from them about their policies and procedures with food allergies, so stayed away. Most desserts were a no-no, but my kids were usually happy with the fresh fruit option. Breads served with meals were also off limits, not because they contained nuts, but because they came from an off-site bakery and Disney couldn't guarantee the safety. At CS, all the kids meals were o.k, except the chocolate chip cookie. Again, the fruit option worked out and some even offered jell-o. My kids' favorite treat was the fried donuts at Blizzard Beach. They couldn't eat pastry anywhere else, so really appreciated them.

I have a peanut allergy and I find that there are so many places where I cannot eat. Disney World is not one of them. They are so accomodating and will go out of their ways to make sure that everything is safe. When you call for reservations, mention the allergy and they will give you a number to the restaurant. Before your trip, you can call and talk to the chef. Then, when you get there, the cehf will come to the table and discuss what to avoid. I even had a chef ask if they could make me my very own brownie since all of the pastries had a chance of being contaminated.

I find that the easiest places to eat are buffets. There is always one line of the buffet that is completely peanut free.

Disney World makes it so easy to just sit back and enjoy your vacation!
