WDW resorts in 1971...what did they cost?

My parents always enjoy telling me and my brother that Polynesian was 29.00 dollars a night when they took us down in 1973.

In April of 1979, we stayed at the Contemporary Garden Wing for $60 a night. Sounds like a great rate now, but it was quite expensive then!

There was only the Magic Kingdom. I don't remember how much it cost to get in, but you received 1 book of tickets per entry, and my sister & I were always begging Dad for more money to buy more D & E tickets. An A ticket was like the horse drawn trolley down Main Street, an E ticket was the Haunted Mansion, ect. We were thrilled when they did away with the tickets.

I remember this! There was no "admission" price, you just bought books of tickets for the rides. So you could walk around for free, and some company sponsored attractions were free. My dad worked for Ford and the employees could get a book of tickets for the same price as the others, but they were all E tickets! We got to test ride Space Mountain for free, too.

We went down to visit my aunt and uncle who lived in Kissimmee in 1976. They took us over to the Poly for Sunday breakfast buffet and my dad said it cost about $3 per person.

In 1989 we stayed at CBR and it was $89 per night.

But it's all relative. I still have my ticket stub from an Elvis concert in 1974 - $7.50!:goodvibes

Anyone know what the Golf Resort (now Shades of Green) cost back then? We stayed there I think in 1978 or 79. You had to take a shuttle to the Polynesian to get on the monorail to get to MK. BTMR was being built at the time and no other parks to go to.
It was the Disney Inn in 1989 when we stayed there and I believe that it was about $185 per night.

My family traveled to WDW in July of 1975 and stayed at the Polynesian. My mother wanted to wring my father's neck for "upgrading" our rooms and paying $52.00 a night. :rotfl2:

I'm heading back there in September with my grandchildren and I'm sure we will spend $52.00 a night on "stuff"....nevermind the room, tickets, food, and all those other little extras.

Oh well......the times they are a changin'!

Thank you all so much. What a great reminder to add that information in the scrapbooks I do of our trips. I feel silly adding "useless" information b/c I have so many other things to put in the albulm. Now I will add receipts or at least prices from now on. Thank you, thank you, thank you

We splurged for our honeymoon in Oct 1980 and booked a bay view tower room at the Contempory. It cost us $85 a night.

We had our honeymoon at the Poly in 1979 and we paid for a Lagoon view room which is now, I believe, named the Tuvalu Longhouse and we paid $65.00 per night. I still have the receipt.....maybe I should bring it with me next week when I check into the Poly....ask for rollback pricing for our 30th Anniversary LOL!!!

My very first trip was Summer 1973. I was 26 and my little sister was 15. We stayed in the Contempory Garden wing for I think $29 per night.
My other sister celebrated her honeymoon at the Polynesian for $35 per night Sept 73

We visited WDW during Christmas of 1971. We couldn't get a room anywhere near Orlando. We stayed in Clearwater Beach in a rinky dink motel, for which my parents paid $50/night. The first time we went to the park, it was full and we were turned away. We went to the Space Center instead. The next day we got up at 4:00 a.m. in order to be sure we'd be able to get in!

We stayed at the Grand Floridian in November of 1989. We celebrated my daughter's 4th birthday there. I made the reservations 2 years in advance--I was pregnant with my son when I made the reservation and he was 19 months old on the trip. I think the original rate was $185 by I ended up getting a Magic Kingdom Club discount that knocked it down to around $160. It was worth it though, because we had a view of the castle. My DD loved Cinderella and when we checked into the room and her dad showed her the view she said, "thank you, mommy and daddy, for bringing me here--this is just what I needed!" :cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

Just browsing the DIS after hearing about those faux kidnappers being caught at the GF (ps, any posts/liveblogs here about that!?!?).

We booked the GF with extended family in 1988 for about $185 per night. My parents still have the confirmation envelope. That's $63.55 deflated to 1971 dollars...or $350.59 now.

So adjusted for inflation, those rates they used to charge are crazy cheap...$28 - $44 in 1971 inflates to an estimated 2009 dollar range of $155.29 - $244.02.

I remember the introductory rate at the Poly in 1998 was around $284. That deflates to $68 in 1971 dollars...so they either really raised their rates, or my numbers are wrong!

I remember staying in the Lake Buena Vista villas!! My mom and I can't remember anything but the fact it was Lake Buena Vista something-and she remembers is was on property......but then I can never find info about them.

We still have a book of them tickets my folks never used. Wouldnt you love to see the face of one of the cm's on the rides if you were to hand them one of them bad boys TODAY? :rotfl2:
Im saving them to pass on to the generations.

We paid around $80 a night at the Poly when we went on our Honeymoon in 1982. I don't believe that included tax. I think the Luau was about $20 pp or so....

I also remember we paid $99 each way for our airfare. I laugh about it now because at the time we thought it was a great fare. Now if I pay more than that one way I think I am being robbed...:)
