We were planning on going to WDW this year. I believe this is the last time I can 'convince' DD14 to go on a family trip. Well we are a family of 5 and with the flight costs 700+pp, this puts the trip at 8-9K and that is just not going to happen. Also DH and I wanted to go somewhere (maybe WDW) in 2013. So I have run the numbers and here are my 2 options (both options will cost the same amount of $$):

1. Skip this year. Take the family to WDW next year but run the risk of DD14 not coming with us.

or

2. Take the whole family to DLR this year (DD11 and DS8 have never been) AND go with DH to WDW in 2013 just the 2 of us.

I am leaning toward #2 since that includes DH and I getting 2 trips out of it. I am just looking for opinions.

I think #2 is your best bet. Man I can't understand not wanting to go on a family vacation when I was 14.

As a former teenage boy, I can definitely see this *if* Disney was the destination. I still enjoyed traveling with the family at that point, but I would have considered that too "babyish" for me at that point in my life.:confused3

I like #2 that's a great option! 14 is kinda' young to not want to go...are you sure?

Thanks to all that replied. My DD14 is almost 15. She already thinks we are babyish and would love to go with us if we were going to Hawaii or something like that. She has been to WDW 3xs and DL 5xs and :wizard:she has never been a Disney nut so yes I'm sure.

We love traveling as a family, but sometimes it is so nice to just get away for a few days or a week with your partner.

I would vote for #2 also.

Could you mix in a few beach days in Florida to entice your daughter to go?

$700 per person!!!:scared1: I have never heard of flights that high before unless you are flying first class. I would never go to Disney if it cost that much per person.

That being said, I guess I would pick option #2 or I would do Disney this year and find a less expensive option for the whole family next year.

Definitely choose #2! I'm in your boat - we may be driving to DL instead of going to Florida as flights are outrageous (I live in Bozeman). We could drive for a little more than a cost of one ticket. My DD14 who is 15 next month doesn't care if we go to Disney this year either. Just trying to incorporate othere things into the trip that she will like. Good luck. I'll post if I find any good airfare from Montana.

My 16 DD stills wants to go to WDW! We really wanted to take her to England to see family over there this year. She's been to WDW 14 xs and really wants to take a friend, but that probably won't happen until she's a senior. If your DD is only 15 is not taking a vacation with her family optional? It's not like you are telling her she has to stay in Toontown the entire time!? I just don't see how WDW is babyish!

First off I have to say my DD is 18 and offered to pay for my share of the trip if it was the only way we could go.

Second I can't imagine giving her the option of not going on a family vacay at 15. (Not trying to offend, just my opinion).

this!! if you're not 18 you go if i say you go! that's how i feel about it. if she gives you additude you tell her there are girls who don't even have parents, let alone ones who take them on awesome vacations! :thumbsup2

Definitely do number 2! You will get to have a less expensive family trip PLUS have your own romantic DW trip without kids...there is nothing better!

I live in Montana...you don't want to know the price of 1st class.

What is up with Montana airfare? I'm sorry but I think when they mean "the last best place" they mean it's the last place you will ever be because you can't afford to get outta here.

:rotfl: Thank you for that laugh! I know, sometimes I get so jealous of people who get airfare for less than $450pp to anywhere. At least we have allegiant now, but dang it, why can't they go to Orlando!! At least if you end up going to DL instead of DW this year, you can look forward to nice, pleasant weather. I'm already starting to justify in case we end up with DL too.

I would go with option #2 for sure.

Altho I can't imagine my DD15 not wanting to go to Disney, she's a bigger fan than I am! LOL She's already planning her trip to DLP. lol

I suggest doing number 2. When you do go to Disneyland, maybe you can spend a day at Knotts Berry Farm, (lots of 'big coasters') only 6 miles away from Disneyland, or go to the beach and take in an Angels Baseball game and a movie. Maybe you can get tickets to a taping of a show and spend the day doing that?

Good luck with what ever you choose. :thumbsup2

Flights have really gone up out in Denver also. I booked a Jackpot trip with Southwest Airline to one of the DL Good neighbor hotels for (flight & 7 night/ 8 days) the price it would have cost for 3 of us to fly.
