WDW needs haunted mansion HOLIDAY!!

Not all the rides are down for 2 months for the overlay. I think for the Jingle Cruise they basically changed the lines and the costumes. And the Small World doesn't take as long as the Haunted Mansion. They do some pretty amazing special effects with the HM one, and that takes time.

Haunted Mansion usually goes down for 18 days to have the overlay installed and another 12 days to remove it. So HM is usually out of commission for about a month each year to have the overlay installed and removed. It runs from mid-Sep through early-Jan, with the attraction closed from late-August through mid-September and again for most of early-January.

Small World is down for 18 days to have the overlay installed and another 18 or so days to have it removed (the removal length has varied because DLR has been doing some extensive refurbishments while removing the overlay). It runs from early-November through mid-January, and is closed from mid-October to early-November and again for mid-January to early-February.

So in both cases, installation and removal of the overlay means the ride is out of commission for about a month each year.

They aren't going to be happy with the ride being down for 2 months every fall and another month or so during the winter just to put up or take down the overlay.

At DL the HM is down for about 2 weeks in September to put it up and 2 weeks in January to take it out. Not 2 months, like a total of 4 weeks. I think it's understandable for WDW to not want the ride out of commission for 4 weeks out of the year for a holiday overlay.

I hope they never ruin the WDW Haunted Mansion by putting Nightmare Before Christmas on it. Ugh. That would just make the ride terrible!

Like previous posters have mentioned. At this point, I can't see Disney closing down an attraction for an extended period of time for an overlay. Our last major overlay was Country Bear's Christmas which ran from 1988 until 2005 before stopping. If there not going to close the Country Bears for an overlay they're sure not going to close Haunted Mansion or It's a Small World. That being said, I would like to see Country Bears come back along with It's a Small World get a Christmas Overlay. In those cases, it's still the same basic attraction. Haunted Mansion Holiday, adding the Nightmare Before Christmas changes the entire ride. Once of these day's I'm hoping to get to California during the holidays to see it though. My one trip to California was during the changeover. So, I've never seen California's version of the haunted mansion.

My DD, DS and I were at DL last October and we hated the HM changes for Halloween. We are hoping next time to go when we can see it in its normal condition

That would take months to set up and months to tear down. Unless they can somehow fit Classic Xmas stories into the current scenes.

Maybe have Ralphie taking on Aliens with his trusty Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time. :goodvibes

And Clark Griswald could decorate the rooftops of London while Mary Poppins and Burt sing.:thumbsup2

Anyone who doesn't think that DL isn't a locals park is...well...wrong. Disneyland has 1 Million annual pass holders, the vast majority of which are local enough to make a day trip. Locals make up such a large percentage of daily visitors that the Southern California AP, available only to those with a SoCal zip code, is blacked out pretty much all Summer and many crowded weekends throughout the year. As a previous poster mentioned, every.single.purchase you make is preceded with "Are you an Annual Pass holder?" or "Will be using your AP discount?" CM's are almost taken aback when you say you're *not* an AP.

Here are two recent articles that have been posted on the topic.

i mean I've never been to DL and at the most on my radar its a one time trip while the world I'm heading into my 11th? not sure how many times I've been

I could not disagree more. I've been to WDW 1 time (for 7 days in 2011) and I have no desire to ever go back. But we go to Disneyland at least once a year, twice if we can manage it, and we're tossing around the idea of buying AP's, even though we live in Texas.

Another no vote for HM. They can't take the ride down at all in Sept. As of this year the halloween parties start early sept. They can't have the "halloween" ride down for overlay during halloween.
That said, i have no clue why they dropped the country bears. That wasn't such a difficult overlay. The animatronics should already be programed in, so it was a minor set change.

We were in Disneyland from September 14-22 this year and HMH had been up and running for 2 days by the time we got there. Surely they're not starting MNSSHP in WDW before September 12th??

This year's first MNSSHP was on September 1 (although the next one wasn't until September 9).

If MK were to get HMH (and I highly doubt it will happen), I would assume they'd schedule the installation so that it would finish in time for the first MNSSHP of the year (whenever that is - this year was the first time MNSSHP started so early in September). If this were to happen, it would mean that HM would be closed from early/mid-August. DLR's Halloween Parties don't start until the end of September (historically) and HalloweenTime usually starts about two weeks before that in early/mid-September, which is when HMH re-opens.

i don't see why either as one commuter posted WDW does so much for CHRISTMAS that it would be totally cool to see some of the classics added with some christmas fun.

i know it would take some time but um am i missing something your mad they'd have to take it down a couple weeks to set it up then a couple more to take down but DL does the same thing so i see no real pain in doing it if you don't wanna see CHRISTMAS versions don't go during that time.. problem solved lol.

for the people who wanna see DL version its not so easy to just go to Cali for a quick trip. so WDW is all we have, like for some ppl DL is all they have.

and to the post of hating Christmas music in the parks. Disney celebrates CHRISTMAS its even Mickeys very merry christmas party so yeah I'm proud they play christmas music for Christmas season. it makes the trip more enjoyable.

i mean they just started renovations for HM in wdw for almost 3 weeks and not many complaints.

maybe one day ill get to DL but until then ill pray WDW wakes up and gives us the holiday attractions for small world and haunted mansionpixiedust:

I live by disneyland. Grew up here. I've been well over a hundred times. Locals may not be as chatty in the parks because we're not asking questions or looking for bathrooms and sometimes bring our own food. I definitely talk to other locals but I have a 5 year old and am an outgoing person. You're much less likely to be chatty with strangers when you are stopping by a few hours after work, or a parent alone with kids while the other parent is at work, or a big group of friends. Probably 1/4 of the people I know have a pass, maybe more. I'll have to count sometime.

And if you are going during the summer or big holidays, most of us don't do that. Our passes are blacked out and we do other things during the summer.

As far as having overlays, I can't fathom the outcry. I've read some pretty upset posts about closures at Wdw, and the longer lines at hm since fp+ have people angry. The nemo subs were closed at dl for 9 months and barely a peep. I just waited 30 minutes tonight for Small World here. I don't ever do that except at Christmas, ever. Overlays would dramatically affect the lines. People would be angry.

It just makes more sense the way it is already. We're only planning our second trip to Wdw and I'm so glad the limit closures so we can see most things.

locals can return more easier to DL than WDW that's why your not getting it

Never seen the DL version, but although it seems really cool, I put my vote in to not add the Christmas version to DW. First, I think it's nice to have some differences between the two locations...makes the DL version have something unique. Also, from this year, DW version already shuts down the ride for a bit after MNSSHP, so to add to this doesn't seem worth it (as it would have to be shut down again to remove the extra features). Just my two cents...

The current shutdown at HM/WDW is for maintenance. They don't do it every year.

That can be easily turned around...

If you want to see the Christmas version, go to DL...problem solved lol.

For the people who want to be able to get on HM/Small World/whatever, it is not easy to just change the dates of the trip. So, that time period is all we have.

Just because it is easy for YOU to change your dates (and hard for you to get to DL), that doesn't make it true for everyone.

FTR - I've seen the overlays at DL and wasn't a huge fan. I'd rather WDW not go that route.

I've seen the overlay at DL and while it is neat to see, I would also be in the camp that says no changes to the WDW version. I like knowing that when I'm in WDW, I'm getting to see the HM that I love. Like previous posters have said, if I want to see the NBC version, I'd better plan a DL trip between Oct-Dec (and we have done this to see it).

If there is a need for increased NBC presence in WDW, why not just make a dark ride/attraction based on it?

If they were to put an overlay on a WDW ride, I think they ought to come up with something for Toy Story Mania. That wouldn't require any downtime for the ride just an upload of a new game video.

I disagree 100%.... got to visit Disneyland just once- mansion had an overlay, and we hated it. I wanted to see the mansion in all it's uniqueness, not from a movie I've never even watched.:crazy2:
