WDW Installs Metal Detectors

How does this stop or prevent anything? We've created huge artificial bottlenecks outside of "secured" locations thanks to the TSA garbage and the additional screening at amusement parks and sporting events.

Think about it... Why would a terrorist bother getting admission into the park? There's no need to anymore. Now, they can just stand in the ridiculously long security lines and do a lot more damage. Hell, just some punk teenager yelling "bomb" in a TSA line will probably cause a few people to be trampled to death.

Thank you Disney, I feel much safer now (sarcasm).

Considering last week Disney security noticed a man with a bulge by his waist and they followed him into the park. Turns out he had a gun. It's not always about terrorists, it's also about the plain old nut job.

I'm not a gun guy but I think you completely missed my point. Especially since your argument is that the current security was keeping out handguns without the use of metal detectors.

ps. "Gerson was released Monday on a $2,500 bond." So the Judge doesn't consider him a "nut job". I think the only reason he was arrested at all is because his concealed carry license expired.

They were installed overnight. I was also there last week, I noticed the bag check at MK was more strict. One guard specifically asked "do you have anything sharp in here?". The other parks, same as usual, barely a glance.

I've heard security guards asking that question at various times over the past years.

The one I liked when were were there a couple weeks ago was a guest that was quite appalled that the guard was not wearing gloves while checking inside bags. She couldn't believe he would risk touching all those things covered with other peoples germs! I wondered if she knew just how many things she was going to be touching in the parks that other people have touched. ;)

I just got home Monday and seeing this I was wondering "where"? but then I actually read the article and it said California, not florida. I guess they will eventually make it to Florida. But I agree with the above poster.....we need to worry about actual crazy americans....not terrorist.....as they are already here and do more harm.....you know, like the nuts in N.C. who banned a solar farm because "it might use up the sun faster".

i never go to the parks with a bag anymore dont want to be in a large group of people which i find more unsafe than walking through the no bag line were nobody is disney needs to figure something betting PKI has discontinue metal detectors and bag search at there park now

It went into Florida today too. Both CA and FL just started.

Just returned from DLR.
Not there one day, there the next.....I went through it. No big deal. It rang, they hand scanned me.....bracelets and zippers set it off.
Didn't take long

I went to Disneyland on Friday and as I was walking through the regular security check I noticed another security person wearing a different type of uniform looking at me. Once I got the okay and walked through the first security checkpoint the second security guard approached me and said I was randomly selected for secondary screening. He walked me over to the metal detector, asked me to empty my pockets and put my backpack on the table. Another metal decector guard waived me through the actual metal detector. It didn't go off and I was allowed to grab my backpack and move on.

I think this is a very positive move. The US is a dangerous country and any action to reduce the chances of people carrying guns at the parks is good in my book.

Whilst we have more than 350 mass shootings in the US each year security needs to be increased.

I question the validity of your statement of "350 mass shootings". That sounds like a Bloomberg "Everyman" created statistic that defines "mass" as 2 or more and includes street crime. The Washington Post did a review and found that the largest number attributable to "mass shootings" was either 61 or 78, with the definition of "mass" as 4 people. Regardless, your chances of being hit by lightning are nearly 8 times more (1 person per 12k) than being part of one of these "mass shootings" (4 people in 100k). The US is not "a dangerous country" compared to any in South America, Africa, the Middle East, and some of the former USSR countries.

With the joke that is Disney "security", it's only a matter of time before some mentally deranged individual shoots up the MK. While the metal detectors are a step in the right direction, the perception of security is more than the reality. Did you see the video where the teenager got into the park by sitting in a baby carriage, avoiding having to pay for a ticket?

This highlights why it will be very difficult to do anything about the gun culture in the US and making the country a safer place to live. Using third world countries as a benchmark for measuring how safe the US is, is a joke. The US is without doubt the most dangerous developed country in the world.

Eventually people will become sick of the needless gun related deaths and the extra security which will be required in our everyday lives to protect us all. It's not a question of if gun control will be imposed, it's just a matter of when.

I, for one, am glad to hear they are finally installing metal detectors. It's about time. There are nuts out there, and murders aren't always with guns. Metal detectors should pick up knives as well. There are crazies everywhere and one has only to read a little news to see that. I am equally afraid of some nut with a knife or a bomb as someone with a gun. The attacks on 911 didn't involve any of the terrorist hijackers having a gun as I recall to takeover the planes and use them as instruments of murder of innocents. If there was any way to get guns out of the hands of every bad guy out there, we might have a conversation about removing one of our constitutional rights. If anyone has a magical way to get the bad guys/girls to give up their firearms I'd love to hear it.
