I am planning on a vacation to WDW Jan 6th-16th...what is everyone's opinion of this time of year..

Be prepared for cool weather, but the parks generally aren't that crowded. We've been there several times at that time of year and you can walk on most rides or have a minimal (5-10 minute) wait. ::MinnieMo

spereira,

Maybe we will see you there. We are taking our first January trip 1/8/06 thru 1/16/06. You probably have already heard this, but the only biggie I have heard about is avoiding MK on MLK day (1/16). Other that that, I am just hoping that not too many big attractions are down for refurb that time of year. If Splash Mountian is closed, the wife is going to be one sad little camper.

The marathon weekend starts Thurs 1/5, runs thru Sun eve 1/8. Thurs & Fri the runners/spectators will be at the Expo @ WWOS, the 1/2 marathon takes place on Sat AM, Family Fun 5K on Sat later AM and the full marathon on Sun AM. Here's the site:

GL with your planning, we'll be there again Jan 5th thru the 13th. We enjoyed our Jan 2004 trip when I did the 1/2 marathon and toured the parks the following week. We hope to have some warmer weather as it was a bit chilly in the eves that year, but this past Jan saw some really warm temps.

We have gone in January for the last two years. The weather was in the 60s and 70s during the day with nights in the 50s. One or two nights this past year, though it was very cold, :cold: requiring winter coats and hats and gloves for the little ones.

The parks aren't very crowded and the wait time for attractions and rides was 10 minute or less, if that at all. We enjoy going at that time of the year but my DS is starting Kindegarten in September so we are going to do more Summer and holiday visits.

Have a great time!

Parks are pretty empty, but weather is very unpredictable. could be cold, could be warm.

I was there Jan 19-26 in 2005 and it was great! The weather was a little chiller than I had expected, but I had packed for just about any type of weather. When I got there and turned on the news it was funny to hear them talking about the weather getting down to freezing for a few hours (I was coming from the frozen tundra of MN)! My coldest day was in the mid-50's also there was a few days of really cold wind (of course I went to AK that day and there were not too many animals to be seen!). I'm planning a trip back in Jan 2006 as well, but I first have to finalize and go on my Fall trip.

We've been going in January for the last five years or so, and going again next year. Other than that one frigid year, it's been mild or only moderately cool. Crowds are practically non-existant.

Yes....we were there 1-24 to 1-31 earlier this year. Very cool and very breezy....

(I don't know how the guy was able to balance on all those chairs outside the France pavilion in Epcot) :worship:

We had a blast....small crowds and no waiting. The pace everywhere was slow and relaxed. It was misty the afternoon we were at Epcot. There was NO line at test track and Mars.

We were at WDW Jan. 12-15 this year. The weather for the 9 days before we arrived was GORGEOUS. Warm, sunny, fabulous. Our first day was beautiful, no crowds at MK, just PERFECT. Day 2 was MGM, still nice weather, a tiny sprinkle of rain during the parade and another just before Fantasmic. Friday was the day from HELL. It rained about 3 inches. It rained more that day than the total MONTHLY rainfall is supposed to be. It rained the whole entire day, from morning 'til about 8 PM and by the time it stopped we were completely drained from being rained on all day. Saturday it was cold and misty. And no matter which direction we went at Epcot that mist was blowing right in our faces. It was unpleasant enough that we left before Illuminations, even though we really wanted to see it.

The weather in January was a huge factor in motivating us to go again in October. We really only enjoyed half of our days, and half of the parks, because we were short on time. We want to go back and have more than one day for each park in case the weather is yucky part of the time. The parks were not crowded at all, but those last two days were the pits for weather.

I would go back in January if our schedule worked out. Like I said, the people who were coming back as we were leaving had amazing weather - it is just luck of the draw. The weather stayed crummy for a few days after we left, too, so you just never know.

Yes, we were there January 8th to 15th this past year. The weather was absolutely BEAUTIFUL, although I'm pretty sure that was a "freak" thing... The days were around 75 to 80 degrees and the nights were about 60s. One night, it got as cold as 50, but, to us, coming from the frigid Upstate NY - it still was really nice.

DH and I were able to even go to Blizzard Beach one day and get a tan! We kept pinching ourselves, saying -- is this REALLY January?!?!

The crowds were almost non-existent. Rides were basically walk-ons. It did get crowded at Wishes at the MK, but that's probably because it was only scheduled for 3 or 4 nights that week - not every night.

Would we go back in January? ABSOLUTELY! Even if the weather was a little cooler, we would absolutely go back. We had a blast!

Be sure to pack both sets of clothes!
We have had wonderful weather, then the next day it is freezing.
Most of the time it is jackets in the morning and evening and short sleeves in the day when you are in the sun.

Best time to swim is from 1 - 3 pm when the sun is out and shining.

But, the crowds are light which is nice and we love going that time of year.
