WDW Food Nostalgia

This thread backs up one I posted elsewhere (Is Disney Dying or something like that). There USED to be good, unique food at Disney - as wll as some standard park stuff that at least was fresh & fun. Now it's all prepackaged, reheated stuff at the vast majority of restaurants and none of it worth what they charge. It has changed and for the worse.

Monte Cristo sandwich at Columbia Harbor House
Clam chowder in a bread bowl at CHH
The handwich! (Not that it was that good, but it was cool)
Akershus buffet (pre-princess)
Papeete Bay Verandah (Ohana now-- they had an excellent Sunday brunch buffet)
Trails End Lunch Buffet
King Stefans Banquet Hall (now CRT)

The maple fillet at Le Cellier. I am so not a meat eater. But I finished every scrap of that meat and would have happily licked the plate if I thought I could have gotten away with it.

confirming a PP...that was Tusker house...and it was good!

You are thinking of Tusker House. It was a CS before turning into the TS buffet it is now. It was also our favorite CS in the AK. My mom and son both loved the salmon.

I miss the old Boca burgers at CS locations. Not a fan of the new veggie burgers. I also had a fantastic cumin flavored veggie patty at The Mara back in 2007 but I guess it is gone now. :sad2:

I also miss the pineapple and caramel sauce that was the old dessert at 'Ohana. Just super light and fresh after what can be a very heavy meal. The bread pudding they serve now is fantastic, but the fresh pineapple was just perfect after that meal.

I also miss the lounge they had in the Japan pavilion. It was nice to have a little sushi and drink break mid-day.

Thank you both! You have solved a mystery that has been bugging me for 4 years! :lmao: Now, if only someone could point my husband to that beloved buffalo chicken. :rotfl:

I think it's making a comeback of sorts. Kouzzina, Via Napoli and Hacienda de San Angel are attempts to do something different. I like to see the effort, even though I think they let things slide for several years and could still do more in other areas.

Good beef hot dogs on good old fashioned white buns at Casey's. (I think they were beef...whatever they were they are not anymore!)

Oh boy where to start. I miss the chicken miori (maybe bad spelling!!) at the Coral Isle Cafe, the salad at the Odyssey at Epcot, the meals (and the booths) at the Land Grille Room, the buffet at the Contemporary Cafe, the food at Tangarrroa Terrace (again bad spelling), the original citrus swirl at Sunshine Terrace, the old food court at the Land, King Stefan's Banquet Hall, the monty cristos at Columbia Harbour House. I better stop because I can go on and on and I'm now getting hungry! LOL!!

Hmm. I don't know: most Disney food in the seventies and eighties was packaged and awful. Cuisine vastly improved in the nineties.

the soft pretzels shaped like the old WDW logo at sleepy hollow. Also loved the juice in the plastic container shaped as the fruit your juice flavor was. (orange, grape) from the late 70's

In 2007, my daughter had salmon, green beans and rice somewhere in AK that she really loved. We can't remember where it was and haven't been able to find it on subsequent trips. It was a CS place and I can see the inside of it in my head, but I haven't ever had a flash of recognition any time we've been there. Darn you, aging memory! :lmao:

Are there any foods that you loved that disappeared or that you were never able to find again?

That was probably Tusker House back when it was counter service. I remember their salmon from our first family trip and it was excellent. The place looks quite a bit different with the table service setup, so seeing it now might not ring any bells.

I really miss the macadamia nut torte dessert from Kona. It was so rich with just the right amount of chocolate and almost a pecan-pie texture, but with macadamia nuts instead. And all-beef hot dogs at Caseys because I really like that place but don't eat cheap hot dogs like the ones they serve now. But I've found new favorites to replace the old ones so I don't spend much time waxing nostalgic. :goodvibes

Top of the World Dinner Show at the CR.

I remember this, we went to it in 1987 on Christmas Eve. That was a nice show.

I really miss the strawberry swirl ice cream at Enchanted Grove, I would get that at least once every trip, I was distraught when I went there one time and it was gone!

I only had it once (and they took it away shortly after...) but the King Salmon 2 ways at Le Cellier... Oh wow that was soo good!
