WDW Facts! Did you know...

A few more......

1. Spaceship Earth will fit completely in the 5.6 million gallon living seas aquarium (if the center core was not there)

2. The hat size of the MGM water tower mickey ears is 342 3/8 (the tower does not hold water)

3. In the MK somewhere by the grandprix there is a light post that at a certain time of the day will cast a hidden mickey shadow on the ground.

4. The dirt to make the MK upper two levels was dredged from bay lake. Under that they discovered white sand that was used for the lakes beaches.

5. the roof of The Universe of Energy has solar cells that provide 15 percent of the power to run the attraction.

6. The trash recyling station is enormous and takes up the whole backside of splash mountain

7. The MK carrousel was originally in a New Jersey park

8. Morrocco was the only country in epcot world show case that sent their own craftsman to do the construction of the pavillion. They purposely left cracked walls, broken doors etc because they believe no one is more perfect than Allah who they worship.

Thanks for the pictures!
As far as the part that says "ashes scattered in paradise" next to Sharon Disney Brown Lund's name....is "paradise" referring to WDW???? That's one of the names I call it!

My last name is Lund too :earseek:

In the ground along the the center of Main Street, there is a series of "pucks" embedded in the pavement. These are small sensors used to locate and identify floats along the parade route. As float passes over each one, they transmit information back to a central computer. Then each float is synchronized with it's music, and made sure that it is in the correct location in relation to the other floats.

Also... I read somewhere (here?) that the reason swimming is not allowed in the lakes at resort beaches is because there are naturally occurring harmful bacteria present in many lakes in FL. (If so, then what about River Country, which used lake water that was freely exchanged between RC and the lake?)

The Magnetic Mystery Mine is the name of one of the caves on Tom Sawyer Island. Some of the other areas of the Island you can explore are the Windmill, Aunt Polly's, the Barrel Bridge, the Suspension Bridge, and the Escape Tunnel.

Did You Know That...
1) The Fire Station on Main St is called Engine Co. #71...in honor of the year the MK opened
2) That the tracks on Space Mtn actually have names...and their names are Alpha and Omega
3) That the Tower of Terror was struck by lightening while it was being built(eerie!)
4) The Haunted Mansion belongs to "Master Gracey"
5) That Main Street is loosely based on the town of Marceline, Missouri circa 1910, where Walt grew up
6) That Brer (as in Brer Fox and Brer Rabbit) is an abbreviation for "Brother" which was a term for kinship prevalent in the south

I'll keep thinking of more...I love little known facts!

:wizard: :pug:

Did You Know... that actor Bela Lugosi, Hollywood's most famous Count Dracula, was paid $150 back in 1939 to be the live model on which Chernabog (who can be seen in SpectroMagic)was based.

I hope no one has said these, but i couldn't look through all 34 pages to check, lol.
-there is a wave maker in the Seven Seas Lagoon near the Polynesian. When it first opened the wave maker kept the waves coming in as they would in the Polynesian area of the world, however due to erosion it has since been unused

-the Contemporary was first built as a shell and the rooms were built at a different site and put in by a crane. They figured that they could just pull a room out and put another one in, but due to settling of the building this has never been possible.

-There is a slight incline (as forementioned) in the MK, and a fun fact is that you will go up in the morning when you are excited and down at night when your tired!

-Disneyland can fit ENTIRELY inside the PARKING LOT at the TTC.

-The American Adventure was originally planned to be at the north side of the lagoon, but was later moved to the south side where it presently sits

-The World Showcase has all the countries basically where they would be on the globe in regards to where America is, with the exception of China and Japan

-Until Rock 'n' Roller Coaster opened, the fastest ride in WDW? the Monorail!

-Be careful if you are having a bad day at Disney. My aunt once got a "ticket" for being grumpy and frowning from a cast member!

The property for WDW was actually bought by Several different "companies" at different times for WALT, because Walt did not want the price of land to SKYROCKET when the locals heard that Another "Disneyland" was comming.

The WDW parks have only been closed 2 times, once for Hurricane Floyd and September 11. Epcot has been closed by itself for one day as well, July 17,2002(was actually there that day).

I'll look for more later but this is a start :)

Why did they close for Floyd? It hit just north of us in Charleston (I should know, my ship had to go back out to sea for it, the day after returning from a deployment to Kosovo)

In an onsite training this morning. An inside source reported the area to be 47 square miles.

I guess we can now add that it has been closed for Hurricane Wilma and Charlie huh? How many total times was it closed last year? I lost track!

Intercot (another Disney-themed website e-newsletter) stated today that the marker in Epcot is NOT the center of WDW. "If there were it would be on a portion of the property that is set aside as a wildlife preserve. And it would probably be under water. There used to be a marker in the center of the hub in front of Cindy’s castle at the Magic Kingdom which is the exact center of that park."

It also stated (for those who did not already know this) that the Earful Tower in MGM does NOT contain water. It is merely an icon from the early Hollywood Days.

Finally, there is a forest in the famous shape of Mickey’s head and ears near Walt Disney World. On February 27, 1992 hundreds of Cast Members fanned out across 50 acres of land northwest of Walt Disney World on land owned by the Reedy Creek Improvement District. They planted 50,000 pine tree seedlings in the shape of the three circles. The land is no longer owned by Reedy Creek, but the Mickey forest is still there.

If anyone has a link to an overhead picture to forest, I would love to see it!

On the left side of Main Street (look up when you get past town square) there is a light on in an upper part of a building. This was to be Walt's apartment and they have always left the light on for him. They occasionally have been known to rent it out.

The tops of the stores on Main Street are actually smaller than the bottoms of the building.

One of the locomotives at the Disney RR is actually named after Walt's wife.

The back side of all buildings that you see in the parks are actually smooth. The front side is a facade.

There is actually a metal building on the other side of the Haunted Manison which is what contains the ride. What you see on the other side is actually a facade.

During part of the first year of the Haunted Mansion Cast Members actually jumped out at the people riding the attraction.

Since Walt died in 1966 and the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World opened in 1971 why would they put an apartment in it for him to use?
