Day 1 - Wednesday 10/13/04
Who: Mark (me-26)
Molly (DW, 28)
Eric (DS, 2 1/2, first trip since he was 8 months old)
Haley (DD, 4.5 months)
Staying: Old Key West, first stay with our DVC points!!
Plan: No real plan today!!
Actual:
Left my Mom's house in Tampa ~ 10 am and headed for our week long stay at WDW. The drive wasn't too bad. After 1 potty stop, pictures at the front gate, and a minor detour (I got lost), we got to OKW by about 12:30. we were plesantly surprised that our room was avaiable. Because our resale had some banked points we were staying in a 1-bedroom, which would probably spoil us on our first stay. It Did!! With the 2 kids and all the gear associated with young ones we were able to sprawl out and it didn't seem like we were cramped. We were in room 3511 located just across the street from the Turtle Pond Bus stop. After we ogled over our room for a bit we headed to Animal Kingdom to see the Mickey's Jamming Jungle parade. This was the one parade that we didn't see 2 years ago on our last visit to WDW because it rained on our AK day... So, after a stop at Guest services to activate our PAP's we were off to enjoy our Disney vacation! We had our new PAL Mickey to guide us around, Molly saw it advertised on the resort TV and had to have one. Molly liked all the little tidbits about the animals Mickey had to share, but we were off to a Lion King show that was about to begin. The show was great as usual, Haley was startled by the audio because she was sleeping when the show started...
But once Molly was back from taking Eric potty everything was good. After the show it was up the street to find a spot for the parade, but we were stopped with Eric for his first Character meet-n-greet with Chip & Dale. He was so excited! So we found a spot for the parade and had to kill about 25 minutes before it started, so I took Eric over to check out the fish in the Otter tank, at least I think it was the otter tank? Finally almost 4 so back to meet up with Molly and Haley for the parade. I have listened to the track for this parade for months, I'm a big Disney music fanatic and have to have all the Resort and Park CD's, so I was also excited to see the parade. As the Characters passed by Eric's eyes were as big as baseballs as the characters waved in his direction as they passed. A few of the performers stopped for hi5's with Eric, and one put his finger in Haley's little hand and she wouldn't let go, it was too cute!!
After the parade we began our trek to get to the Polynesian. We were going to O'hana's for dinner, I just love the shrimp and Molly loves how tender the beef is. Dinner was great, and we finished up about 6:30ish, so we headed out to the dock to catch the Magic Kingdom ferry. We wanted to check out Wishes for the first time. When we got there we had a bit of time to kill so we took a ride on TTA, Eric and I did Astro Orbiter, and we all did Carosel of Progress before we headed off to find a spot for the fireworks. We found a spot going towards the the Walt & Mickey statue to watch Wishes... All I can say is what a spectacular show. I have been listening to that track for a month or so as well and it was nice to put it with the fireworks! Molly missed the old Fantasy in the Sky show, but by the end of our trip she was singing the Wishes music with me!!
Finally our day was done, and back to OKW we went. Once back I had to make the trip to a grocery to pickup some drinks and breakfast supplies. I got lost on my way to the Albertson I had directions to, and I ended up shopping at some Mini-store in a strip mall just south of I-4. Probably paid too much, but I got what we needed... Besides getting lost going to the grocery store this was a great start to our first Disney trip in almost 2 years!!
Thanks for reading,
Mark
