Day 11 ~ July 29, 2009
Cozumel
I woke up around 8:30 and watched from the verandah as we pulled into Cozumel, Mexico.
The water was SOOOO blue!
At this point, the laundry was starting to pile up again, so I went to the laundry room to throw in a load. Well, when I went back to get it, I noticed all of Tom's white t-shirts had weird yellow-like patches on them. WTH?? At this point, I wasn't even surprised...it was just typical at this point! I never did figure out what it was but I'm just glad it didn't get on any of Tom's other clothes.
Once Tom got up, we wanted to get breakfast but every place we tried was just too overwhelmingly crowded that we were afraid to even go in. So we just went without food that morning.

I was really upset BUT I didnt' let it get me down. We had learned out lesson yesterday and did NOT want to check out Cozumel on our own before our excursion. So we went back to our room, Tom got his book and I got my bathing suit. We went to the Quiet Cove pool and I had a little swim and sunbathing time, which was nice because there was hardly anyone else around. I pretty much had the pool to myself, I probably wouldn't have gone in if there were other people in already.
At around 11:00, we got some early lunch (since we hadn't eaten yet that day) at Pluto's.
I spotted Michelle and her daughter playing ping pong and found out that we were on the same excursion as her!! Great! See you there!!! .....or will we.....??
We had planned to do the Fury Catamaran, Snorkel, Beach Party! It got a great rating in the Passporter and we had decided on this almost immediately when we started planning the cruise. I was sooo excited to snorkel AND for the complimentary margaritas and beer at the beach party! FINALLY, we were going to have some FUN!!
Our excursion tickets said to meet at the Promenade Lounge at 12:15!
Well, we went back to the room, got all ready to go, it's like 12:00 and Tom's looking at his elbow and breaks the news to me......
"I really think I need to go to the doctor."
I'm the kind of person to just ignore my ailments where Tom is the type to harp on things and always think the worst...so I was kind of hoping he would just forget about his elbow but it was reeeallly starting to look BAD! The redness and swelling were spreading and it was hot to the touch. So, we go to the medical center but it was closed.
At this point I got it in my head that he could possibly have an infection, which scared me because not that long ago, I saw an episode of Oprah where this woman had an infection that basicaly ended with her limbs being amputated. SO I accepted the fact that our excursion just wasn't going to happen and we needed to see the doc asap.
Since the medical center was closed, we had to go to Guest Services, where I ran past Michelle who was on her way to the excursion meeting place! "See you there!!!" she says.
So Tom got on the phone with the nurse who said he could wait until the center is opened OR she could call the doctor and it would be more money. At that point, he just wanted to see a doctor asap so they told us to meet them there in a few minutes.
I'm not sure this picture really captures it, but you can sort of see the redness running halfway up his forearm!
So the doctor came in and Tom told him all the symptons. The first thing he did was take a blood test, which made him a little woozy!
So when the doctor came back, he said it was NOT an infection, which was a relief. He figured it could either be just that he injured it and it kept being agitated or GOUT! Well he didn't have the gout test but luckily the treatment was the same for either, which was basically anti-inflamitory pills.
We got the meds and had the nurse fill out the paperwork for us to give to Guest Services so they could refund us our excursion for today AND for Tom's parasailing on
Castaway Cay.

The doc thought it wasn't a good idea to do anything that could injury any further. So while all that was going on, I HAD to look at the positive side of all this, which was the fact that I can take pics of the things I normally wouldn't have seen!
We were about the walk out the door...WAIT!! Doctor, can I drink on these pills? Thankfully he said yes!! He suggested to drink just half the bottle instead of the whole thing.
