 I have found my home

I have never seen this thread, I don't know how I missed all 100+ pages of it. I have spent the last couple of hours reading everyone's post. I am inspired and motivated to tweak my current plan. I am lucky that DH is retired military and follows directions well, he knows I am the General at Disney, and he is the Sergeant and his job is to keep our recruit (DS) on task without to much complaining :woohoo:

I tend not to talk about my plans with my friends IRL, cause they all look at me as if I am crazy. I even pre-plan snack options. However, I am a kind leader :littleangel:and will allow anyone to use the bathroom when nature calls even if it isn't on the schedule!! :rotfl2:

Welcome. I missed it quite a while as well. You can post plans here all you want and we will never think you're crazy.

Hello my commando friends! I need some advice. DH and I are consdering taking DD to the world for her first time in December. She will be turning 1 while we are there! Which value or moderate resort do you think is best for an infant?

We will probably be taking a break each afternoon to head back to the resort for naptime, which goes against everything I've believed in since I've been going to WDW as a little girl. However, DD is easily distracted and won't nap if anything mildly interesting is happening, I can't imagine how over-stimulated she might be at WDW! :) I'll have to re-work that commando schedule.

So figuring in distance from the parks and any infant-friendly perks you might know of, which value or moderate would you pick and why? As much as I would LOVE to stay at a deluxe in the MK area, there's just no way we can afford that. I think we'll be there 4 or 5 nights, and plan on attending each park for one day. (I'd like to take one day to drive to the resorts and see the holiday decorations!) Also, we'll be driving down and will most likely take our car to the parks each day so we can make a "quick" escape if we need to.

TIA!

Been there with my dds were that young, so I know a nap is essential. You get an excuse from commando touring when they are young. We only stayed at CBR at the Moderate level. We really enjoyed it but had a room near Port Royale. There are 5 bus stops (large resort) and I like being near the QS, feature pool, etc. I've heard from others that Coronado can be a really long walk from the bus to the room. I think POFQ is the smaller of the two resorts, but forgt which one gets the first bus stop, but I may have that backwards.

We did the All stars and POP. I liked All Star Music as my favorite value, but we may just have been lucky and had a closer room that year. Good luck in your planning. The value buses are always more crowded than the moderate, which was problematic if you stay to park close.

I have seen the fireworks from this spot and I have to agree with you, some are right above you it's a awesome sight, now on a lot of threads people would disagree with you since the front of the castle is not in play:confused3

The only thing about this spot is that I get distracted by the short lines or no lines on the nearby rides:lmao: I would much rather see the fireworks in this spot then trying to watch them at the incubator known as the hub:thumbsup2

I'm not sure there really is a bad place to be when in Disney and there are fireworks. Oh yes the pull of the rides is strong!! This year for the 1st time ever, I planned time to just sit on Main Street to people watch and soak up the atmosphere. I just can't wait, and hopefully the sitting and soaking doesn't violate the commando code.

Thanks for the info. DH must have lost his mind because he told me I can book wherever I want for as long as I want to stay. This from the man who's told me numerous times that no one should stay at wdw for more than 3 nights. So now that he's going to let me book for as many as 6 nights, I'm thinking a value resort to "save" money. That way we'll get to take our time and see all the holiday stuff. I've never been during the holidays, obviously I'm going to get tickets to MVMCP and catch osborne lights and the storytellers. What are the other must-see events? I thought our leader had posted something about it a while back, but couldn't find it...

If it was any other time of the year I would say the main parks for a 1yr old would be MK & AK (got to love the animals:good vibes), but with everything in Christmas theme the playing field is a lot bigger, plus all the resorts are decked out:thumbsup2, so now it turns into a AWESOME Christmas card you can put together with your DD:thumbsup2, Let's see you can get a pic with at least 6 different Santa's, Santa Goofy, & Santa Stitch, plus the numerous trees you can get pics by in the parks and resorts:cool1:, Basicly wherever you stay should be fine there is something happening everywhere:santa:

I think around page 39 I was getting into all the Christmas stuff going on, The storytellers in Epcot at the WS you don't want to miss since you can get pics with 5 Santa's, the 3 Kings, The Drummer boy, a Giant Nutcracker ( that might be scary for a infant though:sad:)
Then you have they Christmas parade at AK, along with Santa Goofy:thumbsup2

Osbourne lights at HS:cool1:

And all the Magic at MK during MVMCP, The pics alone are priceless:good vibes

Main Street is one of my favs, I love meeting the Main Street Characters like the Mayor, Fire Chief, Dapper Dans, Dewwey Cheatin (the councilmen), etc, I always tell the Mayor I voted for him last time his reply was- It was a landslide who would run against me:rotfl2:, When I told Dewwey Cheatin I voted for him he said - Doesn't matter who you vote for it's how you count the vote:lmao:

Try to ride any vehicles out, like the horse drawn trolly, fire truck or double decker bus, there's nothing like riding down Main Street in one of these:thumbsup2

No Dapper Dans?

Dapper Dans are a must, didn't list them since it goes without saying, I got a 12noon haircut ressie that was made at 180 days out, they should show up while my son and I are in the chair, it just doesn't get any better then that for front row seating:thumbsup2

Thanks! I had originally ruled out going to DHS but then realized I couldn't miss the lights! So we might have to get park hoppers after all.

ok .. this is the only place in the world where i feel i might be understood. when i told my family, they just said 'that's nice'. seriously. :crazy2:

last november i started planning our entire vacation, which would start on december 17th because, at the time, i figured the free dining offer would start around that day (and if the 1st day of your trip hits the last day of free dining, the free dining lasts your entire trip). we absolutely love dining at disney, so we try to plan our trips around free dining, then upgrade to deluxe dining. i planned out 9 days (parks, dining, mvmcp, everything...) and as soon as i hit the 180 day mark, i made the reservations. i typed up the itinerary table. you know, the table that i will have laminated for the trip, that has park hours, reservations and numbers. THEN, disney announced that the free dining offer ended on the 13th ... so i totally re-worked our vacation (and managed to sneak another day into the vacation ;)), changing resort and dining reservations ... studied up on the parks and schedules. i talked to schools about getting kids out earlier than planned, made sure our pets have places to go, planned flights, etc.

so .. yesterday, disney announced that they've extended the free dining offer to the 20th of december! :faint: i think i felt my brain explode. so, now to decide .. do i re-work everything again, or leave as is ... if i move our trip, so that it starts later, the kids miss less school, we could possibly drive, etc .... but, on the other side, i have planned it all out so well! :scratchin :lmao:

just couldn't believe my family .. 'that's nice' ... pfft. :rotfl2:

Welcome. Yes, we completely understand. All your planning and hard work goes unappreciated. Keep having fun planning and join us.

I'll have to remember that. DH got his hair cut there last year and liked it (and the price). He'd love to be there when they come through.

For me this would be a no-brainer. Re-plan!!! I love it almost as much as the vacation itself. :lmao::lmao:

This last week I have been in my own Nirvana, as I started prepping for our departure tomorrow. For the last month or so, there was nothing really for me to do other than count down the days :sad2: So re-plan you know you want to!!

They do have a Harmony Barbershop in DL also, I don't know if the Dapper Dans show up there or not, but you could always call and inquire about it:confused3

Woohoo - I finally found somewhere people won't laugh at my colour-coded ADR chart!!

Most people we know are "we'll get up in the morning and see what park we feel like going to"...I feel queasy just thinking about it ;)

As far as those who say they get up and see the parks when they want to the old saying The Earlybird catches the worm applies at WDW::yes::
