WDW Bus transportation... like it? love it? Or hate it and why? Thanks for all your feedback in advance!! =)

Peace + Love = Walt Disney World!!!

even when we used to drive down and have a car. we LOVE the disney transportation. we love not worrying about directions, getting lost, and being able to have a few drinks.

that being said, since we like to break up our day with pool time in the middle, we did like to drive to either DHS or AK in the mroning. it was much quicker, and those are easy parkd to get to.. but we would still take the bus in the afternon or evening.

water parks? drive if you can,.

downtown disney? if you are jsut going for a lunch or shopping, and a quick grocery/beer stop at the Hess, drive. if you can.. the DTD bus goes a weird LONG way around. but if you are enjoying an evening of cocktails, the bus is great!

and remember, there is a very good chance you might have to stand on the bus. (happens all the time on public transportation in big cities, like Chicago.) Dont' get on a standing room only bus and expect someone else to get up off their seat for you. if you need to sit, wait for the next bus. many of us will get up if we can. some have problems you can't see and don't know about.. and we are all tired, of course. also, you don't know that we didn't wait for another bus to ensure we could have a seat.
if your party NEEDS to sit, then drive or get a cab. On disney transportation, you are guaranteed a ride, not a seat.some people, after discovering this. opt to rent a car if they flew to WDW. only you can take total care of your families' needs.
I think it's great that you can get all over WDW without driving, if you need to.

No better, no worse than other resorts. Yes, there will be other stops along the way. Will you always get a seat? Probably not. Depends on time of day, how many stops have already been made. I usually was able to find a seat.

I have mixed feelings about the buses at WDW. I usually do a mixture of buses and driving when I'm at WDW. Primarily, I'll use the bus to get to MK and the car to get to AK and DTD. My family also does a lot of resort dining, so having a car makes that much easier (getting from resort-to-resort isn't very easy/time efficient using the buses).

As goofy4tink mentioned you won't always get a seat so you have to decide if you want to wait for the next bus or not. I don't mind the buses if I have a seat, but I don't really like standing because I cannot easily reach the overhead hand railing (I'm on the shorter side). The vertical poles are few and far between, so you can't count on being by one. Usually buses crowds are a bigger problem when the parks open and close, but if can happen at random times during the day.

So for me, I don't love the buses, but I don't hate them either. They have their good points and their bad points.

Now that we have kids, we'll probably rent a car. We had one for 2 days during our last trip, and it made things easier for us. Less waiting. We tend to arrive in time for Rope Drop, so our parking space is walk-able.
The other thing I liked about it was that we could leave the stroller in the car at night, so it's not taking up space in our room.

We did fine with disney transportation for our first few on property stays, and if our budget is ever really tight we won't hesitate to use it again, but as long as we have the money, we'll go with a rental car.
We'll probably still take the bus to the Magic Kingdom, but drive everywhere else.

Love, love, love the buses. We usually fly and with Disney transportation we see no reason for the extra expense of renting a car. This time we're driving; plan to park the car on arrival and not get back in until departure. On our last 7 day trip waited more than 10 minutes for a bus only once. Its part of the magic to let someone else worry about traffic and to be dropped off at the park entrance.
