WDW and Universal. Who wins?

I accounted it to a weird one off since I used the bus to return to Aventura and there was always a bus waiting. At least when I went, busses never shared with Cabana Bay. Cabana Bay's bus was always insane - I ended up standing most of the time.

For early park admission, I'm team walking path. I'm also a single person so it's way easier for me to do that walk at a brisk pace.
Yup - I usually do solo and walk, but if the bus is waiting - and it often is - ill grab the bus.

So, one thing I’m confused about when it comes to Epic Universe: when I read about it, it says it’ll have 4 parts:

- Super Mario Land
- How to train your dragon
- dark universe (monsters stuff)
- Harry potter

But they already have two HP lands. So that doesn’t make sense.

It's part of the reason why you need a park to park ticket to ride the Hogwarts Express: to get the Harry Potter only people to visit multiple parks.

Similar to if IoA gets the rumored Legend of Zelda area. The Nintendo only people will have to pay to visit Epic Universe AND IoA to get the full experience.

Right, I know. It just seems like a stretch to now put HP in a third park. It’s like they know they have anything else that’s all that interesting — outside of Mario.

It makes sense as the HP stuff going into Epic Universe is the Fantasric Beasts stuff that takes place in a different country than England. So putting it an a different park will work.fine.

Ok. It just strikes me as kind of desperate. I like HP, but can’t they think of anything else to draw people in?

Ministry of Magic has been long-sought after

The Harry Potter world has a lot you can delve into. Whether we all agree on what content they are putting in the 3rd gate here the point absolutely is there's a plethora of opportunities. The fact that you find this as "desperate" strikes me as just finding something to poo poo on.

Desperate? Nope. It’s a money maker. From this list it’s also whyLOTR is desperately wished for as expansion in Epic.

This also shows why Mario is going into Epic as well-even if one personally isn’t into it there’s a huge market for it.

And agree WE win when the parks compete!

That highlighted part is true for Disney too. I roll my eyes at all of the Star Wars and Marvel stuff but I'm not the target demographic and that's okay. The market for those IPs is massive.

Pokemon would be huge too, as shown in your screencap. The Pokemon parade in USJ looks awesome and on par with a Disney one.

I really like HP land. It’s just weird that they would lean on the same IP for a third park.

Who wins? We do!

The more they fight and push each other to outdo, the more we win.
I love that Universal decided to wake up and get in with HP, I love that HP woke up Disney. I think Disney has been largely complacent in the year or two leading up to the pandemic and throughout the pandemic and I hope that Epic Universe pushes Disney out of this. I like that Universal is putting in what I understand to be interactive play areas and Disney has removed most (all??) of theirs is interesting.

The new Moana attraction is an interactive play area. They also have Tom Sawyer Island and Swiss Family Robinson, although those are more traditional playgrounds. Same with the Dinoland playground.

What do you think Disney is doing with their IP? Shoving it anywhere and everywhere they can. If Disney wasn't restricted with Marvel in FL they would have found places to put stuff. They have more than 30 movies and then their tv shows. And talk about leaning on the same IP...we have more than 30 movies of the same IP! And with comics there's so many things they can delve into but you're complaining about HP here?

Ellen's Energy Adventure rethemed and redone to a Guardians theme...in Epcot. Moana in Epcot. The mashup of Star Wars stuff in DHS. MK getting Tiana in Frontierland, Pandora in AK. And how many Star Wars movies do we have? And they just keep coming out with more (although more tv shows right now). They even built a super fancy very expensive hotel for it. So Disney has no issues shoehorning their IP where they want to, sometimes it makes more sense than others but they lean and would lean even heavier if they could on what they own. Personally I wouldn't knock Universal for something Disney does far worse on.

People want more Harry Potter (although the controversy around the author is not good press for the franchise at all), there's not much room in Universal parks unless you remove something, rather than do that with an entire new theme park you have room to add there. This makes perfect sense to me and someone saying it's desperate comes off more like you just don't like Universal overall which is the vibe I get from your comments throughout. I can understand your viewpoint of preferring Disney over Universal, it's more poking at Universal for stuff Disney does worse or at least does the same for. The Disney of today isn't the Disney of the past and sometimes people are thinking of the Disney of the past when complaining about Universal.

It’s not the IP that bothers me. It’s the repetition of it over 3 parks.

Disney has had IP in their parks from the beginning.

I was talking about things like the Boneyard, Honey I shrunk the kids, etc. The direction they've gone is removing these young kids areas in favor of nothing or something else. That goes for benches too.

Sure what you listed is a play area but not quite what I was trying to compare to.

Boneyard is still there.

But why is that an issue?

Count up how many areas and attractions, food places and meet and greets there are in DHS for Star Wars. Why is that not something you're comparing to.

If they had plenty of room they may or may not have done that although Hogwarts Express was a fantastic marketing technique. It's still a very in demand franchise. But methinks if they had room in the existing parks and added to it you'd still find issue with it on the basis of "couldn't they use something else". As you said "desperate". IDK it's an odd complaint to have, if you have that one for Universal you should absolutely 100% have the same viewpoint (and stronger IMO) towards Disney.
