We're looking to have a 3week trip next year and as the DD will be 18, we definitely need separate rooms, WDW accommodation seems to be ridiculously expensive (and we have stayed at CBR and WL before).
The Disney transport and extras are great but is there any decently priced 2 bed accomodation in WDW that won't break the bank?

yes, your cheapest rate is going to be two rooms at a value resort..
the "cheapest" two bedroom villas are at old key west and saratoga springs and those are VERY expensive (over $600 at least)..
so yes, your best bet is to book two rooms at a value resort..

you could cost up renting dvc points not sure if it will be cheaper but worth a look to get a 2 bed at a nice resort

Does it have to be Disney? Wyndham have a great resort as close as onsite. Stayed there twice and would again anytime.
We use Ken at Vacation upgrades, book 60 days out costs $130/nt for a 2 bed apartment http://vacationupgrades.com/pricing.html Last time it worked out about £80/nt for us but exchange not as good now.

We stay at OKW in a 1 bed villa-double sofa bed in the lounge so 2 separate sleeping areas-you don't necessarily need a 2 bed there as loads of space

Go on David's DVC Rental and rent DVC points. You'll need a 1 bed DVC room, you'll rent points at about the same price as a cash studio , he charges $15 a point, he has an excellent calculator showing you how many points you'll need and cost. Don't worry they have a very good rep. I'm a DVC owner and have rented my points to him.

but if you rent points, you don't get housekeeping do you?

21 nights in 2 bed at OKW with David's = $9,765 (based on Sept prices)
Same 21 nights at Wyndham booked thru Ken $2,730, same room booked direct with Wyndham $5,545
We have had great holidays onsite but couldn't pay current prices.

clearly a much much much much much better deal at wyndham than at OKW...
and the rooms are beautiful....Ken has pictures of the suites on his website..
and it's pretty much onsite, just not disney...
the disney OKW/SSR prices are ridiculous....nothing is worth that much money!!!

You only need a 1 bed I think, in OKW that has 2 Queens, 1 Queen sleeper and 1 sleeper chair. Disney is very pricey (which is why I joined DVC) , but I can tell you staying on site is much better than off, even when close. Last year was the first time on site (and I've been maybe 10 times) and it was by far the best holiday I've had there- so I went and bought DVC (resale of course). It was a loaded 160 point contract and cost me $12000 last month, so with the 2016 points banked into 2017, 2017 and 2018 points there would have been enough I think just about for 1 bed for 21 days, and I'm a DVC owner until 2054- at not much more than rental point costs (albeit there is also 1800) in dues to pay for 2017/18.

sadly i first looked at DVC when OKW first came out (at the very beginning of DVC)..
but the salesperson answered our questions wrong (i found that out years later when i again took the tour)..
had we bought it back then, it would have paid for itself a zillion times over...
woulda coulda shoulda..

We considered buying a villa out there after our 1st visit in 1993, IIRC $60k for a 4 bed with double garage. Maybe financially we should have but I have never regretted it. Had some great bargains in hotels (OKW studio with free dining for £60/nt, good offsite hotels from £20/nt etc) I know many love their Disney timeshare but its not for us, rather stay offsite.

villa's cost a lot to maintain - HOA fees, property taxes, house maintenance..
and if you have a management company, they get a percentage of your revenue...
i toyed with the idea of a villa during the crash a few years back, but decided i'd rather stay in hotels (with all the services hotels typically include)..
