WD-40 on clothing...

Yesterday was one of those days, because why not, and I ended up spraying a big patch of WD-40 on my shirt. Does anyone have a good way to get rid of it? It's not a good shirt so I don't care if there's still a bit of a spot. I'm mostly concerned about the slickness and the smell.

Also, is it safe to put the shirt in the washer and dryer? This might be dumb but all washers have that warning about not putting clothing in that have flammable materials on them. That warning always freaks me out LOL

The best luck I ever have with grease stains is by using Dawn dish soap and hot water. Wet the stain and put the soap right on it, suds it up good and let it sit for a while. Maybe do it twice and then throw the whole thing in the wash. Air dry it instead of putting it in the dryer - if the entire spot hasn't come out the dryer will just set it in permanently. Re-treat if necessary.

I've googled how to get stains out of DS's clothes. Pretty sure ther's a blog and some YouTube videos. People actually spray wd40 on the stain, then use baking soda ( rubbing it in with a toothbrush) then covering it with original blue Dawn dish soap. It did work somewhat for me.

You could presoak it in a plastic tub if you don't want to put it in the washer.

This is true; WD40 is recommended for getting sticky stuff off. I never stopped to think about how you then get rid of the WD40...

To get stains out I have always sprayed the stain with Shout and then washed in cold water with Tide. Has worked on lots of stains but I have never used it on WD-40. Good luck!

I'd recommend the same.
With an oily stain, I would spray with shout, dab with Tide, rub it in, and then wash. (Adding usual amount of detergent.)

Ditto this. I have had to use this technique before and found it worked well for removing in dried-in lip balm oil stains. So if I needed to get WD-40 out, I'd use baking soda and then dish soap. If the WD-40 has already dried, you may need to spray more to re-activate the stain (as odd as that sounds) before you can get it out.

Murphys Oil Soap and Dawn. The Murphys will make your clothes smell but it works.

I used on petroleum products and it works pretty well ... heck they use Dawn when cleaning animals from oil spills.

I typically put Dawn directly on the stain and then handwash cold water. May need to repeat a few times

Ditto for blue Dawn. That will almost definitely remove the stain. It may take some soaking, and a few rounds in the wash cycle, but it should come out. And I agree with a PP that said avoid putting the garment in the dryer! Good luck!
