Wcvb Is A Grinch

I believe the FCC regs pertain to educational programming. Regardless, to accuse someone of lying when there is a rationale to believe they're being truthful isn't reasonable, IMHO. That's all.

There is no rationale to believe they're being truthful. Why should we believe them - Because they say so?

NBC used to air a show on Saturday mornings called Teen Rap, which was interupted , as I said, by tennis 4 weeks a year. Teen Rap was the exact same type of show as Teen Kid News.

So, unless the FCC has changed it's regulations purtaining to the "interuption of child education shows" (if there even is such a thing) in the last 3 years, then WCVB IS lying.

I was wondering where on Earth the parade was. I kept changing the channel and looking on the online menu. I sent an email voicing my upset! My kids were both horribly sick on Christmas and the parade would have been nice to see since we just got back in November. It really stinks that they did that! Thanks for posting at least I know I just didn't miss it.

For what it's worth...FCC regulations certainly have changed in the last 3 years. Perhaps you recall the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction incident...this alone prompted quite a few FCC changes.

I also did a little research and I don't believe that they are lying. FCC rules require that every station in the country is required to have what they call Core educational programming. By core they mean regularly scheduled weekly programming of at least 30 minutes. Because it's a core program, it must be shown every week at the same time. This Teen News show is WCVB's Core educational program and therefore, they can't change the time in which it is broadcast.

As for NBC and other stations who are pre-empted for Wimbledon, etc., perhaps those shows were not their Core educational programs and therefore could be pre-empted as they're meeting their Core requirements on another day and time.

I give up. You surely have the right to assume folks who do something you don't like is lying. :confused3

Bicker - Not everything is black and white. And never did I say that I "assume folks who do something I don't like are lying". I personally believe, in this particular case, they are.

I have no doubt that the FCC has certain guidelines to programming, but that doesn't mean the only available timeslot WCVB could sneak the parade in at is 3:00AM, the day after Christmas. I think common sense answers that question.

And to say Disney wouldn't allow them to air the parade completely contradicts the arguement that it was the FCC. So, who's fault is it - The FCC or Disney? In some respect, they're lying about something.

If you're so hard pressed to defend WCVB, give me one logical reason why Disney would have refused to let WCVB air the parade later in the afternoon, but allowed them to air it at 3:00AM.

There were two issues, the interference between the original network broadcast time (10:00 AM to noon, Eastern time) and WCVB's obligations regarding children's educational programming, and the network's requirement that the program be broadcast either during the original network broadcast time, or in the overnight hours (which is actually a very common type of restriction in the industry). ABC hasn't issued a statement saying that there was no such restriction.

I couldn't care less about WCVB. My objection is to the more generalized need to demonize "the big bad corporations" whenever "they" do something that we don't like. It fosters a very negative atmosphere in society, IMHO. However, like I said, I give up. :wave2:

I did send them an email, and didn't get any reply at all. But, I was pretty polite. I did tell them that I was going to go to church on Christmas morning and pray that the scheduling gods could figure it out for next year. Since I was one of those idiots that stood for hours on end for the taping on Dec 2, I was hoping I might be able to catch a glimpse of myself. After watching about 4 times, I did see the top of my head.
The thing I have to wonder about is this...why in God's name did they start the broadcast at about 2:55? Then the main part of the program started at 3:05?? If I had taped only the 3:05 section, as many here seem to have done, I would have completely missed the Brian Setzer set. Now, that doesn't make any sense at all as far as scheduling goes.

So where were you, Diane?

My mom felt the same way after she had to go to the MK on the 3rd to see Regis & Kelly. She couldnt believe she wouldnt get to see the final product. :(
