I just saw previews for a really cute looking movie, "Bevery Hills Chihuahua". I think it's by Disney. Rated G, so I can take Tyler. :thumbsup2

Hi All......Good Morning!!!

Today is prep for packing day. Next weekend we pack to leave for FL, so today we put the clothes together that we'll be taking and make sure everything is clean and ready to be packed. I'm sure I'll need to do some laundry or take it out and have it done.

I'll get a pedi in FL, no mani and no hair cut and color before we leave. This is the no frills trip.

I'm excited to get the prep stuff started because it means we must be leaving soon. 10 days to go and counting down....!!!!....YEAHHHHHHHH!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Michelle, how is your sister and nephew this morning? I bet they're happy they were in Phoenix and not Clear Lake last night. It looks like they won't have electric for a while, but if that's the worst of it then they're doing ok.

Good morning all, It's actually been cool and overcast here for 2 days. We are usually warm at this time of year (like last weekend.) It's been a busy week here, first PTO meeting (it was run better than most businesses I've seen - they raise $350K at the spring benefit alone!) Also, my sister's b'day - we watched The Great Debaters (Xllnt movie), Back to school night, tomorrow is our school picnic. Whew, exhausted. I am getting a bit done during the quiet days though.

We have an outlet nearby that has them at about $29 - $34. Also, Ebay has great deals this time of year because of Halloween. Costco always has good selection as well. You may be able to get Costco online. We are members, so if you see something you want we could get it for you.

That is a lot of money for a PTO to raise. Good going!:thumbsup2

I will have a browse online Kelly, thanks.

No, not for me. I was just looking out of curiosity and was surprised at how little difference there was between the price I found for 2 and the one Deb found for 4 for Gaylean.

Well I didn't think you were thinking of goping, so i was surprised.

One day though we will cruise again - and spend more time together than the short passing chats we managed!

We're babysitting tonight so I won't be around. Might get time to say goodnight though!!

Hi Deb! No plans here. Just hanging around being a bum until it's time to pick Tyler up. When I talked to him on the phone yesterday when his dad called me, he told me he wants to clean this weekend and I told him I'd get started a bit before he comes home, so I'll do a little bit. Tonight we'll just be doing cleaning. Tomorrow after church we might go to a place called Jumping Jax, a place with those big inflatables to climb and slide. We also might make a trip to the public library for new books. Not sure, just a "wing it" weekend.

Morning kids!

Hey Deb....what size is the package of the BristroMD 5 day plan? I'm going to have to make sure there is room in the office freezer (usually not a problem...just a couple of stray Lean Cusines in there...:lmao:

I've been spending some time over on the W.I.S.H. forum this morning. Peg found a group of 'petites' who started a thread. Short women UNITE!

I have to buy a weeks worth of food to hold me over till the Bistro food arrives. I'm trying to NOT make this a week of 'one last taste'. Very tempting to have some fried chicken, pizza, pastrami and ribs. But that's the reason I did the five day plan, so I could have one of my 'treat' foods on the weekend (but in a smaller portion than usual!!). Think I should bring some FISH/SEAFOOD home from the store, need to start throwing more of that into the dinnertime mix.

Well, must clean up and head out for errands...though I'd rather take a nap.

.

I need Tyler to come and visit me so that we can clean this weekend. Are you renting him out???

That's kind of you Nan. I'm not sure they are any cheaper over there unfortunately. I thought they might be. Not sure if they are the same though. What I saw in the DTD store over there looked better quality than I see on the Disney UK website, though i have to say that could be the pictures.

In the past we have found the more expensive costumes are a better quality on the website then they are in the parks. The Giselle I just bought from the website seems nicer than the one we saw in the park last weekend.

Could somebody do me a favour please?

Our 2 grandaughters coming over with us next May need a new princess/fairy dress. I have been trying to get a price comparison between the Disney UK store and the Disney US one.

I just can't get the US prices as the US site just sends me back to the UK site all the time.:confused3

Could someone look them up on the website and give me a range of prices please?

Thanks.

Let me know and I'll help you.

We are up not so early and heading out to Wilson's baseball game. He started Fall Ball this week. Just one more thing to add to his every growing over scheduled life. I'm a bit sad for Molly as I don't have her in much other than girl scouts and church kid's club at the moment and Wilson is always doing something, racing, baseball, scouts, I guess it isn't that much more than her, jsut seems like a lot since he is at the track so often. Next weekend is a club night race on Saturday and then a regular club race on Sunday, then the following weekend we head to Reno for an IKF race. Then the month is gone poof like that!!!

That Wilson is such a whirlwind of activity!

Hi Jackie, don't open your BistroMD package until you get home.....believe me they pack it well......dry ice in a cooler......then packaged in a box. Mine has sat outside on our front porch in the middle of the summer heat until John came home and brought it inside. (I have good days and bad days, sometimes I bring it in and sometimes I let John do it.) And every single time, there was still some dry ice left in the cooler and everything stayed frozen. It'll be just fine if you don't open it until you get home.....unless you want to offload the lunches in the freezer at work and keep the rest in the cooler to bring home. That'll work too!

The Digging of the North-South West Eastwood Canal

Sukie and I left the house at about 9:30 this morning to go shopping.

It is pouring today, with flood warnings for areas near rivers (we are not near a river, but it was really pouring down).

There was water about 2 inches high outside our back door. It was coming in over the threshold.

It wasn't always like this. This started last spring.

The land under the El tracks gets very muddy when the weather is wet, so we decided to do something about it.

I had a truckload of sand/gravel mix delivered. We had hired Sukie's friend Corey (the infamous dog sitter) to spread it out.

He ended up doing nothing but whining, so Sukie told him to leave. Sukie then paid a guy wandering down the alley to spread it out.

He did a really good job considering that it was an enormous amount of labor. However, he left a "hump" towards the end next to the alley.

Now we have a convergence of issues.

To deal with the basement flooding, I had our downspout rerouted to not go into the catch-basin, but out along side our garage and to empty under the EL.

So --- what we started experiencing was that went there was a heavy rain, the water came off the roof, sloshed out under the El, hit the hump, then came back and collected behind the garage and along side the house.

The water was getting 2-inches or more deep.

Behind the house we were experiencing "Lake West Eastwood."

Sukie had the idea this morning, while we were standing in the garage, that we should dig a channel, from the the downspout, though the "West Eastwood Hump" and to the alley.

It was pouring down, and we were soaked, but there we were, him with a hoe, and me with a shovel, digging the West Eastwood Cut.

I took the spare dirt and gravel and started building an earthen dam outside our back gate, to prevent the water from rushing out of the downspout and then back towards the side of our house.

Many shovelfuls of gravel later, this was working. The dam was preventing the water from rushing back. However, Lake West Eastwood was filling rapidly.

At one point I considered whether we should build a resort on the edge of the lake and could we have water skiing.

Over an hour later, the channel was completed. Sukie with hoe in hand, and me with my shovel, made the last cut through the West Eastwood Hump.

Water started to flow out to the alley and towards the sewer.

Lake West Eastwood started to drain.

We were both completely soaked and our legs coated with mud. I had blisters on my hands from digging.

You have met us. Now picture us doing manual labor.

Sukie was an absolute mad man and kept shouting, "Dig deeper!"

I'm pleased to say that no human life was lost in the building of the West Eastwood Canal, and our marriage is still intact.

We finally left the house at 11:00 AM to do our shopping.

So much for my Saturday.
