Good evening! Its hot and I'm tired, but we can finally use the front entrance again :cool1: :woohoo: :cool1: Ken posted the pics - I'm amazed how much paint I end up with on my clothes

I really enjoyed "The Notebook" in the end, she remembers and they pass away peacefully in sleep together. On the other hand, I hope never to have to go through it.

Just kicking back watching some Olympics and being lazy for the rest of the evening, but I might have to get up and go find a cool beverage. Nan's rum and coke sounds good :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 The poor Canadian in the triathlon was part of a bike accident and is out now with broken wrist

Hello. I'm going back to see pictures

Looks good! You young pups have a lot more energy than we do. I'm at the point in life where I make phone calls.

It looks great!

Thnx. But as for your first comment about phone calls - don't I remember a posting awhile back where you needed to rent a truck to bring stuff back from Home Depot?? :)

Well we finally got the front landing completed. Took a little longer than we had planned because we kept "just doing one more step". It started with just replacing the lino that was there and then one thing lead to another and we ended up having to put in new sub-flooring, repainting and finally putting in the tiles.

But now it is done and Shannon is sleeping on the couch while I am getting caught up on the Olympics.

Shannon wanted me to post some pics we took as we were going along because she says she doesn't know how.

So here you go:

Laying out the tiles:

Now it's on to the kitchen...

So cute Shannon but don't tell Ken I said "cute". I can't wait to see the kitchen :yay:

Thnx. But as for your first comment about phone calls - don't I remember a posting awhile back where you needed to rent a truck to bring stuff back from Home Depot?? :)

We did the tile in our kitchen and saved $1000.00 :scared1: It only took one day. Jon is in the wrong profession!

Don't worry Gaylean, Shannon didn't tell me anything about you saying "cute", so I still don't know you said it.

So we are now on page 250...

Time to head over to the new thread that Jackie made?

New Thread Here

Hmmmm we are planning on doing tile in our kitchen ... What are you Jon doing in the next couple of weeks? ;)

We would come if it weren't such short notice ;) I'll be right over to the new thread.....I need to make a sandwich :lmao: :lmao:

:yay: The lodge you used for meals and activities and the pool are now unsafe but since they are historic buildings the National Park Service does not want them torn down, replaced or repaired unless it is to recreate what they were so it will be expensive and first they want a study so that is expensive too.

The tent areas are overgrown, but some former Camp Goodfellow-ers showed it to us one year. Those who still live in the area and know about it have formed an alumni group to help the IDELC (Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center) provide extra services. Both groups are looking for donations of time and money as I understand it.

The IDELC has airconditioned/heated cabins with built-in bunk beds and a multipurpose lodge, but no swimming pool. The kids do a lot of hiking and studying of plants, animals and environmental awareness.

So, who worked for US Steel?

Jan :earsgirl:

My dad (and later my older sister while she worked to save for college). Dad was a regular mill work and worked his way into management over the years. He retired early with a medical disability--emphacima.

Health update: im eating well swallowing well... though my mouth is still tight and healing internally well... a little pain here and there.

Glad to hear you're healing, Robert.

...see you all on the new thread.....

When I was flipping through the channels yesterday, during the women's marathon, an announcer made reference to one woman's age at the olympics in London next time. That's the first I'd heard of that too. :thumbsup2

Oh, I do know about the Olympics being in London, no chance not to. It was that in the link Kelly posted it seemd that lots of aread around the countryh could be involved, and i thought we must be hosting an event, but no! As it hapens they are just trying to appease us with everything being in London, and telling us ways we could feel part of it!!! yes right!!

Nan

On this Wed I will pick up my friend's dog called Bran, she is a lovely dog as my friend is going away on holiday for a week so I look after her.

More excerise for me - walking with dog:thumbsup2 well if no raining.

I'm definitely in denial.:sad1:

We had a great day, but my feet are killing me like a day at EPCOT! We took the Double Decker tour bus from our hotel to the Smithsonian, did Natural History, then the Washington Monument (worth the trip) then Air and Space before coming back to the hotel and dinner. Weather is just about perfect - but on the top of the bus where the girls wanted to ride, the sun could be intense, and I swear I had to duck for tree branches!

Thanks John. At least they are off on their travels and things look like they are working out for them.

Glad you enjoyed Washington. Hope to visit next May.

And that's the last time I haul something myself and don't get it delivered!

Sukie and I once renovated a kitchen together back in 1991. I don't know what got into our heads. I remember one time we were having a fight while he was inside one of the baseboard cabinets..

I'm hammering something, and he's yelling at me, a voice from the great beyond, under the counter.

From then on, we've always waited had people in to do projects.

That is our secret to 21 years.

Hi everyone! Time to close this thread. If someone would start a new one to keep the memories going and then link it here I'll then close it.

Thanks!

Well she didn't WANT to leave him. Her mom through out the letters so she didn't know that Noah was writing her :sad1: It is sad. I just can't imagine living without Jon but I don't want him to live like that either.

You don't want Jon to live like Duke? I thought that was so beautiful. Even though she did not know who he was, he still loved her. That is commitment. Keeping on when the going gets tough.

I do not know how my Dad would have done with Mom as she loses who she is and who he is. Maybe it is a blessing to him that he is gone. But she was committed through the rough times of his physical decline from a rare blood disorder that resulted in his bone marrow making no blood cells. People cannot live without red cells, white cells and platelets. He needed daily shots and medications, frequent transfusions, was fatigued easily, etc. It was hard on him because he had always been strong. She had to be the brawn. He still had his brain though and knew who he was until the last minute.

Another kind of sad.

Jan :sad1:

Jan about your mom, I'm sorry for you and your siblings. We went through it with all of Jon's grandparents and it is very hard. Jon's grandpa attacked him while we were driving once and Jon had to hurt him to stop him so we didn't crash. That is the memory that Jon has of his grandpa and that is sad to me.

Oh, Gaylean, that is so sad. I am so sorry for you and for Jon. I hope Jon can dredge up some memories from, times when his Grandpa was not so paranoid and confused. Times when Grandpa knew who he was, who Jon was and why they were together. Maybe you can ask him what he remembers about his Grandpa when he was a kid. Maybe that would help put some good memories in front of the sad ones.

My Mom has had some times where she was irrational too. It falls mostly on my brother as he is the kid who lives closest. I appreciate him so MUCH! She has a great MD who knows how to balance her medications to minimize the panic and anxiety so that she is as much herself as she can be. The anxiety was robbing her of herself too. That was not who she was. She was always a loving, kind, giving person. During the time the anxiety and distrust was strong, she was like a spy. No one knew what to expect.

Now she is back to helping and caring. A couple weeks ago she lost her balance, fell and cut her forehead needing a trip to the ER to get butterfly tapes as it would not stop bleeding. She had been trying to tie the shoe of a "little old man" (who, incidentally did not want his shoe tied.) It made us laugh though, if he is a little old man, what is she?

We have to find humor or we will cry all the time. When we are with her we can usually find things to laugh at together. Not unlike the times she laughed with us when we were little.

Her appreciation is amazing. When we go for a drive she comments on how lovely the trees are! I can take them for granted, but this reminds me not to.
