I just saw on the news that Mickie Mouse was arrested in Anaheim today. Now that's a bad day.

Hi All. I FINALLY got caught up reading. I was 100 pages behind and by the time I caught up to that I was another 50 pages behind. I can't skip pages. I have to read it all and get caught up to get back to posting with you all again.

I've also been watching the Olympics and BB After Dark......takes up a lot of TV time.....but I love both so I do it.

Happy Belated Birthday Ian and Happy Birthday to come Shelly.
:yay: :yay: DEB!!! :yay: :yay: HOWDY!!! HOW THE HECK ARE YOU?! :yay: :yay:
I was thinking about you today and planned on sending you a PM after I get caught up here to ask where the heck you're hiding. ;) Very glad to see you here!

using Firefox and it won't do multi-quotes -

Kelly - the map idea is interesting - we have a large world map in the toy room but haven't made good use of it. Its scary how early kids decide the Disney is for babies! Luckily Shaelyn hasn't run into it yet at her school.

Ian - everybody is excited about your wedding! :thumbsup2 Your Saturday sounds crazy, but I think you actually like crazy ;)

Jackie - have a great visit with Kaylee - Hope she's doing well :)

I think that's all the specifics I meant to say. Have a great evening everybody!

Ken gave me a nice glass of wine as I was catching up on Disboards and now I'd better go get some food in me to neutralize the wine, before I start playing Wii games with him!

Shannon and Ken, every time someone from Canada steps up I look for which provence they are from.

Our Shot putter who just came 4th (missed a bronze by exactly 1cm - 0.393700787 inches) was from Kamloops, BC. I grew up in Kamloops.

No I did not know the athlete.

And the Olympics are becoming quite the conversation piece up here - or rather our lack of production at them is.

In our house some things are divided up traditionally - I get laundry :laundy:, Ken is the spider killer. :lmao:

Ok let me set the story straight here ....

She gets the laundry because she hated the way I did it. Remember, I grew up with just my father. I did my own laundry.

Even now it still seems like selective laundry. I seem to only get the bare minimums and then only when I ask for them.

Time to perhaps get selective on the spiders .... :rotfl:

Hi Holly......I'm all caught up and current today and it feels great to talk to my friends again. I have really really missed you all!

I read all about Tyler's diagnoses and treatments and progress, despite dumb and dumber.....they really need to get a life and stay out of yours!......but HURRAY HURRAY HURRAY for Tyler!!!! I'm sooooooooooooooo happy to hear about how great he's doing. What a little trooper! I'm so happy for you too that you stuck to your guns and got the best possible care for Tyler. It's all about him. You did good for him!

Does the swearing not bother you?

It can't if she sits near me when I'm watching my football team stink up the joint like they have this year.... :3dglasses

I should also state that this is when the girls aren't in the room .... sometimes.

Hmmm ... I don't know quite how to broker this topic, but as I am not a parent it has been something I have thought about from time to time, usually when I am in WDW.

When I was a kid, children were dressed like children and not miniature adults.

Something that has sort of bothered me is the trend towards dressing children (especially little girls) like miniature adults. There is something that seems a bit to me like the sexualization of children, what with the heels and make-up and such I've seen. This would be on what I would judge as little girls of 8, 9, 10, 11 etc.

I find this all a bit disturbing, because it just somehow, to me seems wrong.

I'm not saying that I see it ALL the time, but have seen it enough that Sukie and I have discussed it.

Again, I apologize if I offend anyone. Not having children ourselves, or knowing anyone (in Chicago) with children, there's not really anyone I can ask.

In some ways we live a very sheltered existence in our own little world.

It is probable that I am out of touch with what goes on today.

You're not out of touch. The parents of those kids are. It is hard being a parent.

Nope, the occasional word doesn't bother me. I even use foul language myself occasionally...
Occasionally??? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

IT should be interesting to see how Ken handles the girls clothes as they hit the teens - he still remembers what he thought like as a teenage boy!

Ian's idea of sacks and bonnets are sounding pretty good to me. I already have bought stocks in Louisville sluggers. To quote Clint Eastwood in "Pale Rider" - "Nothing like a good piece of hickory".

This proves you don't have to be a parent to have a good sense of right and wrong when it comes to kids. It is an issue that several excellent psychologists, authors, sociologist etc. have been writing and speaking about because it is all part of the question about how far and hard do we push our kids to grow up too fast in comparison to their brain and physical development. Developmental wardrobe is a big topic in our field because it is the beginning of how kids become leaders vs. followers. It's not the same as being fashionable or trendy, it's more about safety. The followers are the ones we worry about because they will follow any kid to the back of the school to smoke a cigarette. Good eye, Ian and Sukie.

When my SIL was here a few years ago she told me that in her area of NC the kids were already (at 5 yrs) telling the other kids that Disney characters and princesses were for babies and they didn't believe in them. It was sad.

:sad1:

My kids know that there are people in costumes. I also explained to them what those characters mean to adults. It is just fun and they never feel like they are babies for liking them. Some of their friends do but we explain to them that some kids are jealous.

I'm not sure about the clothing thing. Ethan couldn't care any less about his clothes and Brooke will only wear pretty dresses that aren't the style for her age, so my kids are strange I guess.

From what I can see what with the targeted marketing towards children, kids are pushed to growing up way too quickly, certainly faster than in my day.

Maybe it's good that I was never a father. I'd make my daughters wear sacks and bonnets, and they'd probably hate me.

After awhile you have to listen to your kids a little. Like if I buy Brooke jeans I am throwing money away. She refuses to wear them. She also hates shorts and pants but I can get her to wear them sometimes.

yes, except I have a lovely one from our cruise with me holding a bottle of beer which is so much more me :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Kelly are you getting excited about school starting?

Will Z have to wear a uniform, or street clothes?

Molly is in uniform. We are doing our shopping tomorrow. Wilson just street clothes and fortunately he just doesn't care about clothes so nothing to buy for him :thumbsup2

You chose the Cabo pic? I picked Acapulco!

Happily our daughters still believe whole-heartedly despite their friends who have never been to DL or WDW trying to tell them otherwise.

We have a Xmas ornament on our tree that says "if you stop believing in Santa Claus all you get are ties and underwear". It is a mantra here. Plus I still get choked up when I read "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus".

There is magic if you believe. And it happens everyday.

Gaylean, what you described in the earlier post is just the kind of man I'm looking for, so you're not alone! :goodvibes

And where have you been all day? I thought for sure you would be involved in that conversation. Maybe you can ask the 80 year old how he feels about the way women dress!!!!

Nope, the occasional word doesn't bother me. I even use foul language myself occasionally - because its occasional it can be very effective to get my point across to a predominantly male work force.

I understood it was Dad's veto - I was just curious about the age because there are different guidelines for 3-6yr olds vs 13yr olds vs 17yr old. Minii-skirts/skorts are hugely practical summer clothes for 3-6 yr olds because they are climbing on playsets, and longer stuff gets in the way. I also find some things are okay for a 17yr old, butt look trashy on a 13yr old. IT should be interesting to see how Ken handles the girls clothes as they hit the teens - he still remembers what he thought like as a teenage boy!

I'm just amazed they remember it from 2 yrs ago! I take it as a compliment that I am unforgetable! :lmao: :lmao:

Ken is going to flip and you are going to use foul language. I can't wait for those days

Well, I didn't think I was bragging, but after hearing what your bill was, I guess I could have been! ;) But seriously, it's rare to use the a/c so little. There's usually a solid month or month and a half of using it. It's been VERY nice this year! It's been cold at night (in the 50s), so if I leave a couple windows open in the living room overnight, we don't freeze in our bedrooms, and then I close those windows and the blinds when we leave in the morning and that cold air stays in and keeps the house from getting hot during the day. Very nice!

We can actually open our windows at night and it stays cool for a few hours in the morning but we have to use the air eventually.
