Nan, here's the recipe:

  • 3 pound large sweet potatoes, peeled and halved crosswise
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup bourbon (you can go to 3/4 if you wish but judge it by how syrupy it gets)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Cut each potato half lengthwise into fourths. Steam potatoes on a steamer rack set over boiling water, covered, until just tender, 10 to 15 minutes, then cool, uncovered. Transfer to a buttered 3-quart shallow baking dish.
Simmer brown sugar, bourbon, water, and salt, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved and syrup is thickened, about 5 minutes. Drizzle syrup over potatoes and bake in middle of oven, basting occasionally, until syrup is thickened, about 1 1/4 hours.

Thanks, I left it above so maybe someone else wants it again. I've printed it and will place it on top of the yams (and then poof!!!!:wizard: my husband will cook them) i love that man:lovestruc

Where is Paul's sense of adventure? Tell him we'll all pile in the car and visit the Obamas for dessert.

Oh yeah, that will get him in the mood for sure....NOT

He's not even one of the proper guests. He's somebody's boyfriend (OK, he has been coming here for Thanksgiving for about 12 years or so, and his annoying us every year has become somewhat of an Eastwood tradition, but he is still relegated to the designation of, "the boyfriend."

Considering that this year I have the 6 million dollar heritage turkey, the most expensive turkey I could possibly find in the entire northern hemisphere, there is going to be a battle and a race for the left overs.

The turkey is currently comfortably sleeping with the angels in the basement fridge. It does not know that tomorrow it is going to be the center piece of from what hereafter will be known as the "Great Heritage Turkey Left Over War of '08."

As God is my witness, I WILL have a turkey sandwich on Friday.

Nan - I suggest you do what "the boyfriend" does, while everyone is in the other room lolling around stuffed, march into the kitchen, pull out the tin foil, the ziploc containers, and make yourself a doggie bag. It also helps if you rummage through the kitchen cabinets for a shopping bag. Then, after you have packed everything up, you innocently ask, "You don't mind if I take some left overs, do you? You're such a good cook."

Try it. It's seemed to work at Eastwood Manor for the past dozen years or so.

The does will be in basement out of the way. They are too small and get under people's feet.

Also, Tallulah is known to sit looking at someone pulling that, "Gee I'm so cute and lovable, don't you want to give me some turkey?" crap. She can then be found on the sofa lying on her side, with her stomach distended, belching in a very ladylike fashion.

Oh yea, I'm not proud I take quick action in making my own doggie bags, but my sister stands over me watching how much I get and it's never enough for my liking...I'm a turkey pig, there I said it

Nan

I was sending you GOOD LUCK but my computer was jamming this afternoon I gave it up

Hope you get something.

Frankly, I'd be happy just walking away, the whole thing really was emotionally upsetting. Court isn't a fun place, I'm glad it is over.

It's not about the savings :confused3 It's tradition and I don't get in the spirit of Christmas if I don't go.

Ok, the tradition for me is to drink my way from Carmel Hog's Breath Inn, Clint Eastwood's pub http://www.hogsbreathinn.net/ to Capitola Margaritaville http://www.margaritavillecapitola.com/ to home, via Los Gatos and a special little biker bar, named The Black Watch http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Sq_GXyb4bTAkB2Qpmg6iwQ?select=4kDEvG3tZxv9x_A02rQ8Pg ::yes:: Deborah, I love that plaid for some reason :rolleyes1 this is the infamous bar at which I met my husband and played a game of thumb wrestling for a dinner date, whoever lost bought dinner (see win-win, I got a date either way ok he did too)

or now that we are old we just stay home and plant tulips :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

It's raining so perhaps we won't be planting on Friday, guess we'll have to take a drive down memory (or loss of memory lane???):woohoo: :rotfl2:

And...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING for tomorrow in case I forget :rolleyes1 :grouphug:

The spirit of Christmas comes for me when we put up our tree and all our decorations. :thumbsup2 Shopping just gives me a headache.

We put our tree up too so we get a double dose of spirit. It may have something to do with the mulled wine :lmao:

Thanks, I left it above so maybe someone else wants it again. I've printed it and will place it on top of the yams (and then poof!!!!:wizard: my husband will cook them) i love that man:lovestruc

Well you have to respect him anyway ;)

I'm off to make the stuffing but I'll be back. I still have a few ore posts left tonight :scared:

Are you and Barb having green bean casserole tomorrow? Do I have enough time to send you a green bean casserole gift basket?

We're fine for tomorrow... but there IS always Xmas... :thumbsup2

Yup, you're absolutely right! And some good news: I DID get my holiday pay for Thursday and Friday on today's paycheck after all! :dance3: I often forget that our office manager just likes to stir the pot a bit and may have just wanted to make me sweat. I don't know. I'm just glad I got the pay. :thumbsup2

Holly you should know better by now... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Glad you got paid... hope you didn't tell Tyler or else that would set back your lesson of the week...

Sukie and I got into a fight with someone in the parking lot of the supermarket.

She accused me of trying to run her over.

She was walking through the lot and was really zig-zagging. It was impossible to figure out where she was going.

Then she zigged too close to our car.

She accused us of a deliberate attempt to run her over, and was standing there yelling at us.

Sukie had to stay by the car and guard it. We thought she might try to put in in her shopping bag and steal it.

The supermarket was CRAZY. I can't believe how crowded it was.

I am now DONE for today. The pumpkin bread pudding is in the oven and that is the last of it for today.

Tomorrow, I only have to do the finishing parts of the stuffing, stuff and dress the turkey, do the brussel sprouts in cream and basil, and make the caramel sauce for the bread pudding.

Sukie was a big help today. He did a lot of the peeling, prepping and washing up.

We also came to the end of "Upstairs Downstairs" yesterday. Today I kept saying things to to him like, "Ruby! You lazy girl! Haven't finished peeling those potatoes yet?"

Did you tell her that with Mrs F... she's a speed bump and she wouldn't even feel the tire tracks???

Here.....now don't say I've never given you anything ;)

Thanks G... :goodvibes

I have the BEST candle in the world! OK, every year for my birthday and Christmas when family starts bugging me about what I want, I always say candles or stuff from Bath & Body Works type places. I just like stuff that smells good, and I have eveyrthing I want, so I'd rather have stuff that gets used up instead of stuff that clutters my house. Well, my mom thought she'd pull a joke on me for Christmas last year. Her gift to me was so heavy, I thought it had cement blocks in the box! When I opened it, she said, "Well, you said you wanted candles, now you've got candles!" She thought it was funny because she spent a fortune on candles that she honestly thought would last me years. :rotfl2: WRONG! I'm just about done with that supply she gave me last Christmas! I burn candles every day in multiple rooms. It's just relaxing. Well, one candle finally burned out last night and before going to bed I grabbed one from my dwindling stash to burn today after work. OH MY GOSH, it smells JUST like the shampoo in the rooms on the cruise! :cloud9: When I blow it out, I'll have to turn it over and read the label so I can find out where it came from and get more! It's the best EVER! :goodvibes

That would be my drink of choice.

I'll have to remember that...

Yes, I know we can post pics or greetings here very easily, but I really think people often enjoy getting something in the mailbox other than bills and junk mail. :goodvibes

I guess I need to take my turkey crap off my signature tomorrow. It's getting irritating anyway.

OK, I love listening to the Obamas talk. They're so down to earth, they're just like the rest of us. I'm watching a Barbara Walters special. They're talking about Christmas and Barbara asked if their girls write letters to Santa, parents said of course, they believe in Santa because the girls say, "No way would mom & dad ever buy us all that stuff!" :rotfl2: A whole bunch of other stuff they're saying is just cracking me up because they just don't seem like future president and wife but more like people I know.

Holly... is it the green shampoo from the ships that you like? I get them confused with the aqua colored ones from the resorts...
