WBRepo-Ship of Thieves-Remember the Magic Pt 18

As I said in an earlier post, it finally hit me that in 1 month we head off to WDW.

Spawn of Sukie (the Sukrette) finally sent me their flight info, which I phoned into DVC yesterday for Magical Express. I just hope the documents arrive here with enough lead time for me to forward them on to the UK.

There are going to be 5 of us on this trip. Me and Hisselfness, Spawn of Sukie, The grandson, who's now 10 years old, and Spawn's best mate, Carmel, a Liverpudlian, who was of phenomenal help when Hisselfness's mother passed away and there was so much logistics to organize over in Blighty.

My role in all this is the poor put upon husband, but primarily chauffeur as I drive them around WDW, and from attraction to attraction in Orlando. The third key role I serve is being the voice of reason and sanity. As one might expect of the Spawn of Sukie and the grandson, the apples have not fallen very far from the proverbial tree.

I did finally get in gear and make 2 dinner reservations yesterday, one for Boma, an Eastwood Manor tradition and one for the Kona Cafe, which also seems to be becoming an Eastwood Manor tradition.

We are staying in a 2-bedroom lock-off at Old Key West. Hisselfness always insists on a lock-off as he like the comfort of knowing that there isn't a chance of someone barging in on us when we are running around in just our tighty whities, or perhaps even less.

I'm hoping we get the canal view room that we requested. We had one for our last stay at OKW and it was really fab.

I'm not quite sure exactly how I feel about a fortnight family holiday. Obviously, since Hisselfness and I have been together for over 23 years, I have known the Spawn for a long time, and we have had long family holidays before.

In fact, one of the reasons I bought into DCV was so we could afford to have long family holidays, but as they say, "Be careful what you wish for."

The last time I saw the grandson was when he was 7 years old. He's now 10, and I'm sure going through a new insufferable phase.

Hisselfness told me yesterday that he spoke to the Spawn, and she said that the grandson has kicked it up a notch and is driving her crazy with his endless chatter about the upcoming holiday.

Severs her right, because she has driven me nuts with endless notes about details for the holiday.

Still, I suppose that it's nice that everyone is getting excited. It's nice for them.

As for me, I am preparing myself for a fortnight in a lunatic asylum. An asylum with rides.

I'm watching the 911 ceremony on TV and remembering that day that I will never forget. I just arrived at work. I was smoking my last cigarette in the car before going inside and I heard about the hit on the radio. I immediately went inside and called my boss and told him to put on the TV. He thought I was joking. I swore to him that I was serious and just do it. He said, "OMG we're under attack." He sent everyone home. He said we should all be with our families at a time like this and to go home. I called John in Newark and told him to just leave the University. I didn't care if they fired him. I told him to get home quickly and as far away from NYC that he could. I called Sandi at work and she got the boys out of school and we all met back home (we were living together at the time). We were just in shock and we were devistated. I will never forget the fear, the frustration, the anger, the sorrow, the shock of it all.
I cannot begin to imagine how it must have felt for you guys in the thick of it.

We had just returned from WDW (on September 9th, arriving back on the 10th) and for some reason I had gone to look around a local new build show home. I was alone in a large, bright, perfectly furnished, pristine house which had TVs on in many rooms tho' the sound was muted. I remember walking thro' and seeing the devastation unfold on the different screens - I honestly thought I was watching a daytime disaster movie!!! Suddenly, it struck me that it was real so I took off for home at speed. I needed to know if friends of ours who worked in WTC were safe - it was many days before found they were...

Horrible, shocking - I'll never forget it...

I would gladly do a cabana with six people total on Serenity Beach....it works out to about $83 a person. That's very doable and I think worth it for the pampering and attention that you get....plus you have a place to get out of the sun. It's very worthwhile to me. But I couldn't do it on my own. I could only do it as a share.
Sharing is a good idea... :thumbsup2 I'd be up for that at some point...

We're in WDW with all 3 of the Taylor Tribe - plus one interloper. I'm thinking one of those super-large half-bottle wine glasses might come in very handy...

We'll come and rescue you for at least part of that time.

We will be dealing with our own family too....We arrive on Wed 10/6 so that we can meet and drink with Angel, oh Original One of the infamous Champagne Girls and maybe Marilyn and John too. Since we're in town early for our cruise.....Sandi and Joe, the daughter and evil son in law, have decided that they wanted to do an overnight with us in Orlando. They're coming to do the Food and Wine Fest on Thurs and staying the night. Not sure what they have planned for us to do on Friday. John said that if Joe starts up again....he's going to find Sukie and sick him on Joe. Then he made this evil laugh....ah-hahaha. Ian, do you rent him out?

Sukie's very good at getting rid of annoying people!

I cannot begin to imagine how it must have felt for you guys in the thick of it.

The worst was knowing those buildings so well.....having walked them and worked with people in them. At one time I worked for Merrill Lynch and we had offices in the Towers. I was always up and down and in and out and back and forth between our building and theirs. Then there was all the people I knew who where in the buildings or who were working in downtown Manhattan and trying to get out. It was horrific, no matter who you talked to. Everyone's story was sad. I was traumatized for days. I think I still may be to some extent. It's just unbelievable.

We had just returned from WDW (on September 9th, arriving back on the 10th) and for some reason I had gone to look around a local new build show home. Sharing is a good idea... :thumbsup2 I'd be up for that at some point...

Well, we're sailing together on the Dream and the LA Repo....but unless we're concierge, we'll never get one. Maybe when we do the November Dream together we'll be able to grab one.

Hey, I just realized that we're on the same cruise wavelength.....we're doing the same itineraries...except for the TA and the Alaska. I hope we're sitting together for dinner on all of them. We'll have to see to that.

Also, are you joining us for champagne at Planet Hollywood on Wed 10/6 at 4:00 pm? We would love to do a cheers with you!!!! Will you be travelling with Richard on this cruise? The more the merrier.

We're in WDW with all 3 of the Taylor Tribe - plus one interloper. I'm thinking one of those super-large half-bottle wine glasses might come in very handy...

We must be able to get in touch with you while we're all at WDW together. My email is: sky00@ptd.net please send me your cell numbers and I'll send you mine back. Also, Monica will have info on both of us....so we'll be able to get in touch through her if necessary.

Are we also doing the Food and Wine on the 17th? So far it's just me and John and Lisa and Darrell. Will you join us?

Sukie's very good at getting rid of annoying people!

John was looking forward to that. He wanted Sukie to call 'em as he sees 'em.....which we know he does so well. Joe needs a dose of reality. This could work out very nicely. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I guess it'll just apply for the Dream cruises - and no, I'm not concierge on those... Cross our fingers for November..

We'd better be!!! I'm sitting with Champagne Mandy and her husband on the TA - I met her for the 1st time recently and she's lovely...

The Alaska cruise is Richard and I plus my friend, Claire (Pinky166) and her husband - they are on the Jan 30th Dream with Sophie and I too so you'll get to meet her... :thumbsup2

Also, are you joining us for champagne at Planet Hollywood on Wed 10/6 at 4:00 pm? We would love to do a cheers with you!!!! Will you be travelling with Richard on this cruise? The more the merrier.
No and no, Deb. :sad2: I'm flying straight back to the UK after the TA. I'm sailing solo and will be missing Richard and the kidlets very much by then so it seemed best to go back... I'm returning with them to WDW on October 17th...

Unfortunately, we don't arrive at MCO until 4pm-ish then have to pick up luggage and get to the resort blah blah blah so I doubt we'll be able to join you all... :sad1:

Email on it's way...

I'll look for it and send it right back to you!!!

Hellooo John!!!

Sorry if I confused you but we're NOT doing the 1st Alaska cruise, it is just the Repo. I was worried the early Alaska would be too cold for me.. SO we are doing the LAST Alaska cruise at the end of August... Hope that makes sense..?

Just got home from WDW. Had a great time. Loved seeing Monica but wish we had had more time. Hope everyone is doing well!

Ian.... Hope it's not too late...

Mazel tov!! Happy Rosh Hashanah!!!

Me too...but on the family beach! Can't swim at Serenity...at least I've never been able to (low tide perhaps?) and I prefer knowing there is a barrier between me and the big fish. Plus, the one time I was at Serenity and the four of us girls got to 'playing'...well, the rest of the adults looked at us like we were ruining their day. I can't imagine any combinate of six of "US" being quite! :lmao:

Current details are that DCL is doing a soft opening on only two cruises in October (for now). Concierge guests who are on later cruises have been advised to check back later. We are assuming after the 'tests' they will determine final pricing and breaking out the levels of service to different packages and deciding how the cabanas will be offered out. Do not assume at this point that ONLY concierge guests will be offered them in advance (though this could be the way they go). But my guess is if they are offered with advance on line booking, concierge and platinum will snatch them up.

.

So what did you eat?

And, what on earth is Spanikopida?

WE had the Spanikopita... and some of the pork skewers :goodvibes a nice fruit salad, brought the desserts home with us... some fruit tarts and something mom got that I can't remember the name of... They weren't making the loukemades yet (the fried dough in honey...) so I might have to go back. They don't serve the BIG meals (the Mousakka or the lamb shanks) until dinner time and we went at lunch.

Greek spinach pie. The spelling might have thrown you off, you've probably seen it spelled more typically as Spanakopita.

Thanks!

That was one of my mom's favorites...and you're all making me hungry.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Sorry...

No, never heard of that either!! Thanks for the explanation.

They will have it at the Greek booth at F&W... :thumbsup2

We were just in shock and we were devistated. I will never forget the fear, the frustration, the anger, the sorrow, the shock of it all.

I was home... just waking up for work... I used to wake up to the alarm on the TV... and Matt Lauer was saying something about a plane crashing into the towers... at that time they thought it was a small commuter that had had problems. I got up and called mom and then I got a call from my best friend, Ray, and all he said was "Are you watching TV???" We talked a bit... then I got a call from my brother... who is a Special Agent in the FBI... he told me to stay home. I was the ONLY one he could get through to (the phone lines were crazy that day - he could call me on one side of town, but not his house on the other side...) He told me that he was called into the city and he didn't know when he'd be home again. The FBI offices were down the street from the towers and had been damaged to a point so they set up emergency headquarters on the Intrepid.

One of my friends was an EMT and was there when Tower 7 came down. He said it went dark as night and they had to dive into the ambulance to take cover.

For a bit... TV transmission went out because the antennaes were on the top of the towers.

One of my friend's husbands worked for the Port Authority and it was their job to take care of the Antenna on the top of the tower - luckily they were working on the top of the George Washington Bridge that day, but saw the first plane go right over the bridge on the way down the Hudson.

Mom came home and we watched the coverage all day... It was eerie not having any planes in the air that day because all we heard, around dinner time and it was VERY LOW... was a fighter jet that went over the house. VERY UNSETTLING...

The very eerie thing that happened was in the day or two after. We were on a train line into the city and we also had a large commuter lot nearby. You went by that lot at night and it was filled with cars, and you knew after a day or so, that it was cars from people who were never coming home again.

Then there were the weeks and weeks of funerals.

There wasn't anyone in the NYC immediate area who didn't know someone who was killed, involved in the cleanup or the investigation. Including us.

Hi Gydell!!! :yay:

We are staying in a 2-bedroom lock-off at Old Key West. Hisselfness always insists on a lock-off as he like the comfort of knowing that there isn't a chance of someone barging in on us when we are running around in just our tighty whities, or perhaps even less.

So there goes the question of Boxers or Briefs...

Btw... mom wants to know... which one wears the tighty whities and which wears the less... (as if she can't guess...)

The very eerie thing that happened was in the day or two after. We were on a train line into the city and we also had a large commuter lot nearby. You went by that lot at night and it was filled with cars, and you knew after a day or so, that it was cars from people who were never coming home again.
That is so very heartbreaking... :sad2:

Or you are going to find out that after 14 days at sea, you will send a forwarding address to Richard and the kids with your stateroom number.. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: They can visit at any time... :thumbsup2
There's always a chance!!!

What date is that one?
August 30th 2011. Here's the cruise thread. :rolleyes1

Sukie's very good at getting rid of annoying people!

A good QUEEN does NOT stand for the peasants disturbing their Day.

and about joining the thieves again. Robin wishes to Experience other cruise lines. we did a HAL repo from san diego to Vancouver in April. but i insisted we do a crossing. so we're on the EBTA in May. the april 1 this year just didn't work out in the budget.

Karl

Prior to DCL announcing Alaska, I had been looking at other cruise lines. I would like to try a different one, but Sukie is rather set in his ways and doesn't want to.
