Yes, fortunately he's at his dad's this week. Good timing, luckily.

So another shot today, this time Depo Medrol. Dr. thinks it's probably cellulitis, but she's not sure, so she wants to see me Monday to see if it gets better. She told me if it continues to spread before then, go straight to the ER. She also gave me a prescription for Vicodin for pain, so I'm at the pharmacy waiting for that. I'm not going to work today, I'm in too much pain. She couldn't even look inside that ear with her scope to see how far it has spread inside because the outside opening is almost swelled shut.

You know it's bad when the doctor walks in and says "Oh my gosh, WHAT IS THAT?" :rotfl2:

Holly, you have cellulitis and a fever....you need to be on antibiotics ASAP. What is wrong with your doctors that they can't diagnose this or subscribe antibiotics for you. My doctor knew immediately the first time and every time that I have had it and every time I have had antibiotics. When it was in my ear I had antibiotics and ear drops. They really should get you on more meds. You need them. It won't get better by itself. You don't wait to see, you need the drugs immediately to get rid of it. I'm on an antibiotic today.....my doctor put me on it immediately to fight the infection.

So sorry Deb. Did you suspect it?

Yup I knew....I'm getting good at it now. So I got to the doctor and got my antibiotics to fight it off. I already have medrol for the swelling and vicodin for the pain in the house.

Oh no Deb, not your leg again. :headache: So sorry.

I didn't realize you've had it in your ear, I thought it was always the leg. :guilty:

With this one it's been twice in each leg and once in my right ear. The ear was the worst.....although once before I had to use crutches because I couldn't walk on the leg the pain was so great. Guess I'm just getting used to it. It is recurring ya know. You may get it again too and it could be somewhere else in the body.

I think they gave her the antibiotics yesterday... hopefully then she'd be ahead of the game then...

The Vicodin cut the pain about 1/2 way, and I was able to sleep 4 hours, so that's good. I checked when I woke up and the swelling has finally stopped spreading! It doesn't look better, but since it's not still spreading, I must be on the mend. Looks like the shot today did it's job.

What's strange is that I never had a cut to get infected, so I'm not sure how this happened. :confused3

My doctor saw cracks in my leg today.....a break in the surface skin from being very dry and chapped. He told me that when you have cracks in the skin the bacteria gets inside and that I should make extra efforts to keep the skin moisturized especially in the winter. I picked up some Eucerin spray.....it's a medicated moisturizer. I'll be using it every day.

Deb, the doctor at urgent care last night gave me an antibiotic shot and also a week of Avelox (antibiotic). And the shot today was a steroid. Then recheck on Monday to make sure the antibiotics are working. And she told me if it continues to spread to go straight to the ER.

It's my second time. First time was after a big shaving cut on my leg, but it was nowhere near this bad.

Holly... you need ice cream... always makes me feel better... :goodvibes

I think they only gave her a shot and not a script, she needs to be on a script until it's completely gone. If not it will spread to the blood and then you'll be in a lot of trouble. You can't wait and see if it gets better or worse.

The improvement that Holly is seeing now is from the medrol....treating the swelling and the vicodin treating the pain. Nothing is treating the infection.

I stand corrected. Sorry. I get it now. I'm so glad you're on antibiotics Holly.

Yup, you got, Michelle. Shot and a week of oral antibiotics. My "sitter" still hurts from the shot yesterday and now my arm from the one today, but at least today I got a Daffy Duck bandaid. ;)

Oh, that makes sense because a couple years ago I started having Eczema (sp?) all over my face, including in the crease behind my ears. I have to use a daily steroid ointment for that and I often forget behind my ears. And it's cracked skin that bleeds, so that explains it. My eyelids also crack and bleed, so I'm lucky it didn't develop there, that would be horrible. Eucerin spray. I'm going to pick some up for myself, glad you mentioned it.

Oh OK glad to hear it. I thought they only gave you the steroid shot which is for the swelling. I didn't know they also gave you and antibiotic. I'm so relieved. I was worried for you.

Yeah, 2 days of doctors, 2 shots plus 2 meds given, I'm confused myself. ;)
