Welcome back Kathe.

glad to see everyone is where they are supposed to be.

We jsut got back from some friends' house where we went for our semi-regular Saturday night gaming session.

Played 2 games:

1) Beowulf: The Legend
pic359455_t.jpg

A card management game that takes you through the epic story of Beowulf. But realistically, even though the game is fun, the mechanics of the game don't make you really feel like you are part of Beowulf's company. It's just about playing cards at opportune times. Shannon had a great play at the end of the game to win and become Beowulf's successor.

2) Homesteaders
pic594149_t.jpg

A resource allocation game that makes it seem like you are back in the old west trying to build up property and gain victory points within a specified number of turns (10). We didn't complete this one, but as far as we did go I managed to win it, but I wasn't overly thrilled with the game. It wasn't bad - just not my first choice. I preferred the first game.

And that's it. Now we are back home and the girls are tucked into bed and in a few minutes I will be putting my head on my pillow. But just to keep Michelle happy, I thought I would pop in here and say good night to the North Americans, and good morning to our European family members!

Congrats on playing!!! You guys always amaze me how you can get together and find lots of fun in these games. I can't get any of my neighbors to stay up past 9 pm...:rotfl:

& Ken... even though you only have 2662 posts here on the boards... I feel like you have such a presence that we would never want to lose you to other things... such as TIKI whatever over on FB... :rolleyes1

(was that enough guilt to get you back regularly???)

Are Monica and Jackie flying home today?

Tomorrow...

Happy Sunday all!

I'm not working for the next 3 Sundays, very exciting for me.

Welcome back Kathe!

Cheri is here and being a sloth, still snoozing and it's nearly 9 am.

Yesterday I took Cheri to the camera store where I bought our new camera. This is a real camera store, not a Best Buy. It was a fun outing, even though I took a wrong turn and and we ended up pretty far from where I had intended.

Cheri got a really nice new camera bag. A sling bag which I thought was really well designed and even came with it's own raincoat to put over it for inclement weather.

I have a sling bag too, that I got from Case Logic on sale, though very similar I think I like the one Cheri got better.

A sling bag has the storage compartment for the camera on the side of the bag. Think of it sort of like half a backpack. The bag goes around you and over your back as a sling, when you want to take the camera out, you slide the bag back around in front of you, now the side compartment is instead facing up. Much better than a backpack which you can't slide around, not without the camera compartment sticking out to the side.

It holds an SLR with a zoom, and has compartments for additional lenses, batteries, cards, etc.

Both our sling bags are about the same size and weight, but I think Cheri's is designed a bit better.

Because of all of the business travelling I'm doing, Sukie and I had to pack yesterday for our vacation next weekend. We're nearly all packed, just some last minute things next Friday.

Last night Sukie went out and Cheri and I had a Disney Blu-Ray film festival. You have to remember this is a boy's house, so we're talking boy toys which means electronics and a sound system.

Unfortunately I leave late this afternoon to head back to NY. I'm there until Thursday. This is a very inopportune time to be travelling.

Make sure you take the right bag next weekend... & boy... do YOU need a vacation.

I think tomorrow Marilyn. I remember Monica saying that she'll be home late on the 26th and back to work on the 27th.

I'm glad they were able to travel to London without any problems and hope that they get home easily too.

It was great to see the girls yesterday, and we get to see Monica again next week in Orlando.:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Yes, they fly home tomorrow, when we left them yesterday they were off to see Love Never Dies at the Adelphi.

Hope the London Marathon didn't get in the way of their sightseeing today.

Ann

It's a pretty dismal day around here....very cold, wet and miserable. I had to put the heat on. It's almost May....that's just not right.

John is barbequeing a marinated steak and some pork chops. I'm getting ready to eat, take Vicodin and go soak in epsom salt....then scrub the leg with iodine. The raging infection is gross and I have to clean it up to help it along. Next Monday I go see the plastic surgeon and see what he says. In the meantime I'm still taking Keflex as an antibiotic.

Hey, does anyone Skype out there??? John just downloaded it to our netbook because it has a camera and speakers. I'm going to add my nephew in Japan to my contacts so that we can talk while he's away. It's free to use which is great because you don't get a big phone bill. We can all Skype each other and visit and chat a bit.;)

Emma's been using Skype all semester to talk to her BF and to May... being so far away has really made her miss everyone. I chatted with her on FB last night. She is having a great time, but she's also ready to come home.

Deb... do me a favor please... if the plastic surgeon doesn't work out, PLEASE think of going to one of the big hospitals in the city to check it out. We want to get you as healthy as we can so we can keep you cruising!!!

Hi Ann. so pleased you got to see Monica and Jackie. I too was wondering about the marathon and it's crowds. Hopefully what they were planning was far enough away, though the marathon seems to take in some of the best tourist attractions!!!

Hi Ann....how wonderful about you seeing the girls and all their plans in London. Thanks for giving us the updates and the picture. How fun that you'll be in Orlando next week. Many of our Thief friends will be there too. Me and John were supposed to go, but my leg needs all my attention right now. Have fun while you're there!!!

I think it's time to go and take Holly's Sunday Nap... ;)

How long has Emma been away?...one semester or one year? What an opportunity for her. When does she come back home?

I'm not sure the plastic surgeon is going to like me. The nurses in the wound specialist's office mentioned the term grafting. If the plastic surgeon says that word....I'm not doing it. There's no way I can bring myself to do it. It's supposed to be very painful. No way! Not happening! So we shall see.

Which hospital would you recommend in NYC? I'm not so sure they are any better. I started at St. Luke's in Bethlehem....a top 100 in the USA. Their wound specialist butchered me. Maybe I should go see an infectious disease doctor. I'll talk to my GP after my plastic surgeon appointment. Believe me when I say that I really want to get this resolved once and for all. I'm tired of it.

Time to go eat din din then take drugs and get into the tub.

I think it's time to go and take Holly's Sunday Nap... ;)

That's why I miss football. I watch the first quarter and fourth quarter and nap in between. It feels like football weather outside today. I should be napping to a game.:confused3

Emma is coming home May 16th. She's been over there since January... Don't get me wrong... she's traveled alot and had a blast... but she misses her friends and family... and NY pizza... :rotfl:

I would suggest looking into the hospitals in Philly. Jefferson is EXCELLENT and so is Univ. of Penn. Let me do some research and see if I can find some info on it. email me please with the official diagnosis so I can look for you.

It's crappy out and I got up and had my eggs benny - now it's time for a nap and then I can get up and do some :laundy: and such.

Welcome back Kathe :flower3: I thought of you everyday ::yes::

Deb sorry about that darn leg - I hear ya on the graphs. I need one for a gum (as in teeth) issue (since 2005) and I've put it off and off and off - the whole thing creeps me out. No where near as hard as yours but still eewwww! I'm going to have to deal with it soon  or endanger the tooth :sad2:

Our garden is in and thriving thanks to Molly's after school watering :cheer2:

Work is work - still have more to do that normal hours -I need to get in this weekend but dreading it :scared:

Same old stuff otherwise - kids activities keep us out almost every evening school, scouts, baseball, band. Weekends at home are much loved these days :cloud9:

Off for :laundy:

Was Cheri's new bag the Lowepro slingshot? I have a Lowepro slingshot 100AW that I have used forever.

Here you can see me with it in 2009 leaving our hotel room to go to Disneyland.

I love that bag but Shannon wasn't fussy on it. I haven't had to use the all-weather cover on it yet. Actually that might be a lie, I think I used it once when I took the camera bag onto Grizzly River Rapids. But walking through rainshowers I haven't had a drop of rain or moisture make it inside the bag as of yet. And as you can see in the pic above the extra "tabs" on it makes a great holder for my monopod.

I just recently got a new bag from Roots that I am enjoying but it is nice to flip and back and forth if necessary.
This is my new bag:

Here's a pic of me with the new bag with my raincoat slung over it:

I really have a hard time sticking to just one bag for my camera. I'll take whatever "feels" right at the time and am always on the lookout for a better bag. I think I'm worse than a woman purse shopping when it comes to my camera.

You go see whom ever is needed to see to get it fixed. Bottom line it needs to be looked after no matter how many people you have to go see. So just go do it. You are too important to all of us not to do what is in your own best interests.

I agree. Deb, listen to Ken!!

(was that enough guilt to get you back regularly???)

I love boardgames. I think I have Shannon hooked a little bit on them and I know my girls want to play so I am always looking for the perfect family boardgame, that can last through the ages. Shaelyn is starting to get to the age where she can try a few more of our games and there are a few I am dying to get to the table with her. But her and her sister love to play Barbie's together and I don't want to intrude on that bonding which is great to watch. It will happen when it happens.

You know you don't have to stay up late to play games? The friends we play with have little boys (who are real little demons IMO) who have to get into everything, so it usually isn't feasible to play games while the boys are up. So we often play after the boys have gone to bed. Otherwise I would have no issue with playing in the afternoon (it would allow me to put off yard work!).

Tiki whatever will never replace the boards. I may not post lots, but that will probably change once I start planning more for the cruise to Alaska. And mainly once I get work settled down. It's going crazy there. Had to let a new staff member go last week because she just wasn't getting it so now I will have to go back to Hinton, Alberta for a week to get that office back up to snuff and headed in the right direction. In addition, the end of March is fiscal year end for the government's up here so all of my contracts got renewed and are heading into a new fiscal year so this month is busy getting budgets and programs up and running again. Just a crazy time of year but it should get better soon. I hope.

Seems funny. I hear Ian complain about going to NY for work, while I get to go to Hinton, AB for work. I'll take his business trip over mine in a heartbeat!! Wanna trade Ian? LOL
