Huzzah! It's the weekend!

Shannon & Ken - I hope the kidlette is feeling better.

Kaz - All I can say is you gave us Shakespeare and Newton, and we gave you QVC?

Deb and Monica - Now you've got me wondering about hotels in Chicago.

Ian, if you had to pick a hotel in Chicago for you, where would you stay?

:cool1: its the weekend!

Happy to say Miss Kaleigh is happily sitting at the computer playing games. She is feeling much better and actually ate some real food (mac n cheese). She had a quiet day with Ken and is almost back to normal.:thumbsup2

Miss Shaelyn has chosen to have her 8th birthday party at the bowling alley, which will be next weekend. It will be a Hannah Montana theme this year.

And there was some happy girls with new pink feather boas and tiaras this afternoon! (Thanks Deb!:thumbsup2). They'll be posing for pictures tomorrow. :goodvibes

Ian - hope your weekend isn't too crazy with your work!

And what is QVC?:confused3

Michelle - did you get some sleep?

and I'm happily watching the last regular season game, and we need to win to guarantee a chance in the playoffs, so Ken is tensely watching the game, and trying to will our team to victory.:happytv:

Champagne Girls Forever....on the Tortola tasting, you were missed but not forgotten. Glad the girls were happy wearing them. No matter big or small or Sukie, that's what it's all about....getting your Princess on. It's just fun!

Baby of Mine!

Younger than springtime, are you
Softer than starlight, are you,
Warmer than winds of June,
Are the gentle lips you gave me.
Gayer than laughter, are you,
Sweeter than music, are you,
Angel and lover, heaven and earth,
Are you to me.

I'm glad to hear Kaleigh is feeling better:thumbsup2

Sounds like Shaelyn has some great plans for her birthday celebration next week! I know everyone considers the 10th birthday as being a special one, but I think the 8th is too! There just seems to be such a big change between 7 and 8, they always seem so much more grown up, and opinionated!

Ironic Incident for the Week

I get frequently get invitations to fill out on line surveys (for which I get reward points). I sort of like completing surveys.

The other day I had an email invitation to do this. It turned out to be on shopping habits. Lots of questions about the number of shopping trips we make on average in a month, the goal of the trips, what we spend, and, and the stores we visit (warehouse type stores, Target type, Walmart, supermarket etc).

Then questions about a new type of store, an urban targeted everything in one store.

In a comments area I say that I would not step foot in a Walmart.

More and more drill down questions about the idea for this new urban concept store.

Then the last screens, it turns out that it is a new Walmart concept!

There an offer as to whether I would participate in shopping at this new store. They will send me in advance a store card for $80. I can only shop on certain targeted days at certain targeted hours. I have to complete another survey afterwards, for which they will send me another store card for $40.

I said I would participate. I felt so dirty.

Sukie was not here at the time. He said, "Take their money. It doens't mean we have to ever step foot in there again."

I only wish this had happened before I bought my new roaster. I would have used the money to buy it.

Did you know I have a new fabulous Nesco Roaster.

:lmao: I agree with Sukie, take their money and have fun spending it ;) I hate Walmart too, but if I was given free money, I'd spend it!

Our house is in disarray. For some reason Sukie wanted to move the dining table into our front parlor, open it up and put in the leaves.

I'm not quite sure why we had to do this this morning, considering we could have waited until before Thanksgiving, considering I've taken the entire week off from work.

After a full night and morning of investigating....here's where John and I are staying next Turkey Day in Chicago. It works for us because we get priority club points and can park the car for a reasonable additional amount per night. The room is $110 and parking is $20 per night. So $129 total per night for a nice hotel. It's very doable for us. John said he can take I80 right to I90 and the hotel is right there. We'll travel the 30 minutes that it's going to take to get to Eastwood Manor.

The other hotels I checked wanted rates of $159 plus $39 a day parking...by the time I add the taxes and fees that's over $200 a night. It's too steep for me. Like I said, I'll spend the extra money on cruising not on hotel rooms.

I'm happy with the Crowne Plaza at the airport. That's where we'll stay. They have a lovely indoor pool too. So if we want to have a mini pool party on Friday night with drinks....I'm sure it can be arranged.

I'm just surprised that in their description they say they are located near downtown. I suppose it's all in how one defines the word "near."

I see that it is .7 miles from the Blue Line L station.

Driving from there to Eastwood Manor is pretty easy, either via highway and local streets or all local streets. I myself take local streets because I think it's easier and faster. We're not near any highway. They are way west of us.

It looks like a good choice. You guys could always drive to Eastwood Manor, park here and head downtown.

There's a big parade on Thanksgiving Day, the McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I've never been to it.

Chicago is one of those odd cities that people don't really live very close to where the hotels are, not at least anyone I know. Aside from the Loop and downtown, it's a very neighborhood oriented city and though extremely urban, not in the same way that NY might be.

Chicago is more like a big Brooklyn with a big downtown area.

I wish we had guest rooms at Eastwood Manor but alas it is a 1-bedroom apartment with a front and back parlor, a dining room, 2 offices and one extremely large bedroom.

Ohhhh!!! Can I join too?:flower3::yay::yay: Pleeeeeease:flower3: Ian? Sukie? Deb?

Is Turkey Day on a Saturday next year then? There just happen to be direct flights from London to Chicago  Hmmm...The Crowne Plaza is at the airport then? How handy would that be! Maybe I would just happen to stumble upon a pool party and Thanksgiving celebration ;)

Thanksgiving is on Thursday, the 25th of November in 2010, Kathe - I checked!!!

Yes there are!!! How on earth did you know!!! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

The Crowne Plaza is at the airport then? How handy would that be! Maybe I would just happen to stumble upon a pool party and Thanksgiving celebration ;)

It all sounds fab!!! Off to check out the hotel... :goodvibes

Of course you can Kathe.

US Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday. Actually it's always the 4th Thursday in November, so the day stays the same, but the date changes from year to year.

And in my choosing would price not be a consideration?

Yes, price is a BIG consideration for me. I don't like to spend more than $100-125 on a hotel room. I believe that's enough money to spend for a bed to sleep in. It's not like I'm going to visit an area to stay in the hotel room. Now cruising, that's another story. The bed to sleep in comes with many additional perks, including food and entertainment. For that I'll spend more money per night.
