OMG the Burnham is beautiful, Ian!!! I am going to treat this trip as Richard's 48th birthday treat (November 21st) so may book a lovely hotel - if we can get one of the flights using airmiles...

OK then party at Kaz and Richard's hotel! We'll have to make it a spa party, they don't have a pool.

:cool1: its the weekend!

Happy to say Miss Kaleigh is happily sitting at the computer playing games. She is feeling much better and actually ate some real food (mac n cheese). She had a quiet day with Ken and is almost back to normal.:thumbsup2

Miss Shaelyn has chosen to have her 8th birthday party at the bowling alley, which will be next weekend. It will be a Hannah Montana theme this year.

And there was some happy girls with new pink feather boas and tiaras this afternoon! (Thanks Deb!:thumbsup2). They'll be posing for pictures tomorrow. :goodvibes

Ian - hope your weekend isn't too crazy with your work!

And what is QVC?:confused3

Michelle - did you get some sleep?

and I'm happily watching the last regular season game, and we need to win to guarantee a chance in the playoffs, so Ken is tensely watching the game, and trying to will our team to victory.:happytv:

glad to hear that Kaleigh is feeling begger...

Yup... 4 hours last night and then another 3 hours after being up for a while... trying to get it turned around... will have to call for a Drs. appt though this week...

QVC is a home shopping network on cable... www.qvc.com it sucks you in and you want to suddenly buy strange things for your house... stay away from the Doll hours... Ken will not know what to do with all of them around the house...

Happy Birthday
Jackie!
Baby of Mine!

Younger than springtime, are you
Softer than starlight, are you,
Warmer than winds of June,
Are the gentle lips you gave me.
Gayer than laughter, are you,
Sweeter than music, are you,
Angel and lover, heaven and earth,
Are you to me.

Ahhhhh South Pacific... I think it's on cable this weekend...

Oh and Jackie... Happy Birthday!!!

Ironic Incident for the Week

I get frequently get invitations to fill out on line surveys (for which I get reward points). I sort of like completing surveys.

The other day I had an email invitation to do this. It turned out to be on shopping habits. Lots of questions about the number of shopping trips we make on average in a month, the goal of the trips, what we spend, and, and the stores we visit (warehouse type stores, Target type, Walmart, supermarket etc).

Then questions about a new type of store, an urban targeted everything in one store.

In a comments area I say that I would not step foot in a Walmart.

More and more drill down questions about the idea for this new urban concept store.

Then the last screens, it turns out that it is a new Walmart concept!

There an offer as to whether I would participate in shopping at this new store. They will send me in advance a store card for $80. I can only shop on certain targeted days at certain targeted hours. I have to complete another survey afterwards, for which they will send me another store card for $40.

I said I would participate. I felt so dirty.

Sukie was not here at the time. He said, "Take their money. It doens't mean we have to ever step foot in there again."

I only wish this had happened before I bought my new roaster. I would have used the money to buy it.

Did you know I have a new fabulous Nesco Roaster.

I'll take them if you don't want them... ;)

:lmao: I agree with Sukie, take their money and have fun spending it ;) I hate Walmart too, but if I was given free money, I'd spend it!

Hold your nose and be sure to wipe yourself down with anti-bac wipes and say 3 Hail Mary's and 4 Our Fathers when you get out into the parking lot...

Our house is in disarray. For some reason Sukie wanted to move the dining table into our front parlor, open it up and put in the leaves.

I'm not quite sure why we had to do this this morning, considering we could have waited until before Thanksgiving, considering I've taken the entire week off from work.

He's a little early isn't he?

:lmao: Oh yes, I remember now, that "other" London ;)

Oh, it does sound fab :goodvibes
Guess I should have known about the Thursday thing Ian
A little more of a challenge for me to arrive in time for a Thursday but this would be so much fun! I'm going to start plotting and planning and see if I can make it work  Thanks for the invite Ian:hug:

if you fly in ON thanksgiving morning it's usually less crowded... Thanksgiving time is a VERY busy flying season...

Now... if I can just figure out a good excuse for not going to my brothers house for ANOTHER thanksgiving... :rotfl:

Ian, thanks for the list of hotels....I can't wait to check these out. Even though I'll probably stay where I am, I'll enjoy looking. Price is a consideration for me.

I looked at all the hotels...the one I liked the best..."with views of Lake Michigan"....was the Sofitel Chicago. It was only $980 a night. YIKES! No wonder I loved it.

I even checked out the Hard Rock and the price is extremely reasonable for the quality that you're getting. I'm sure we would pay an additional amount for parking and John would prefer not to be located downtown. That's fine, we can stick with the Crowne Plaza at the airport. It's nice, it's within our budget and it has an indoor pool. It works for us. But for those of you wanting to stay downtown, the Hard Rock is reasonable and very nice. Kayak had it for $99 a night....at the Hard Rock site it was $130 a night. Very good for what you're getting....and location too.;)

hey Deb.. nice choice of a hotel... of course from growing up it fits my criteria... IT'S GOT A POOL!!!   ;) ;) ;)

It will certainly be interesting with that many people. I may have to rethink the menu next year and take it up a notch.

We used to have a Boxing Day tea party every year. It started with 8 people the first year and grew to about 180 the last year we did it. That kept me busy cooking for few weeks.

Having 16 people for dinner really doesn't frighten me too much. It just requires a little bit extra planning.

We have a service for 12 with our good china, and a service for 16 with the less good china that I got on sale in 1975 in Macy's. Still it is china. The silver (OK the plate) I think is a service for 18 or 16 I can't remember.

Unfortunately no crystal. We may have to start washing out and saving jam jars.

I think our table linen takes us up to 12 with the same pattern.

It must sound very formal, where in reality our Thanksgiving dinner is extremely informal. We certainly don't like people to dress up. Coming in pajama lounge wear would be perfectly appropriate.

For us it's all about having a wonderful time with friends. I also believe in preparing fine dishes, but then again, I did study to be a pastry chef.

Oh one ofter thing you will never find at an Eastwood Manor Thanksgiving ... a family argument.

Even if you had 10 guest rooms, John would stay in a hotel...just the way he is. He hated sleeping at my mother's house when she was sick and just getting out of the hospital. We would stay at her house for a few days to a week. He was very uncomfortable and glad when we were able to go back home.

John likes to drive. I gave him the choice of flying or driving and he picked driving. He chose not to stay in the downtown area. He wants to get on the highway and go. He'll follow gabby....his GPS....to get to your house. He prefers to drive to Eastwood Manor and back to the hotel.

Neither John nor I really like staying in people's homes, however kind, friendly and homely they are. I never know when to go to bed, get up, how much to help etc etc. We have two lots of friends we stay with and now know them well enough, but I would rather a hotel and visit and go back there.

Oh and Ian, we have drunk from large jam jars once at a motel restaurant in the middle of nowhere somewhere north of the Grand Canyon on the way to Bryce Canyon. They work very well!!!

No word from Karen yet. Can you imagine that she's just ignoring my email. Very sad. I at least expected a response with a lot of excuses why she could not come down to see Ray. Nothing. Pitiful.

Last night I got an email from Sandi....it's official....Kris has joined the Army....he starts right after graduation. He's happy and excited.

So now out of the four boys....Tristan, Tom, Kris and Casey....I have two of them in the military....one marine and one army. I just dread the day when they both get sent overseas into war zones. I pray that they both stay safe.

I think my friend you may have to go buffet and plan for about 32 people... I'll bring wine... and leave the cassarole at home... ;)

So if I get my lake place some day, does that mean that even if I totally ignore you and let you come and go and do what you please... you still won't stay at my house? :lmao:

Oh and Ian, we have drunk from large jam jars once at a motel restaurant in the middle of nowhere somewhere north of the Grand Canyon on the way to Bryce Canyon. They work very well!!!

Mason Jars!!! Just like at Whispering Canyon... especially if you have like the gallon sized ones cause I don't think I'll be able to get up from the table without disturbing the other 31 people to get a refill...

Deb... Do your best... Leave the rest... Angels do no more....

& you will be out there sending lots of goodies and care packages and pictures and emails and letters and most of all LOVE no matter where they go in life... :grouphug: :grouphug:

Deb that's great and scary news

Today my sister is back in Chicago celebrating her son's graduation from Navy boot camp :thumbsup2 Feeling very proud for him but it's just one more step to where he might go and that's scary

It's so weird because you're so proud, but you know our country is at war. That's the scary part. I'll be sharing that with you Nan.

We now have a Navy, an Army and a Marine in our family. We just need an air force to complete the list.

Bless them all and keep them safe.:littleangel::littleangel::littleangel::littleangel::littleangel::littleangel:

Deb... there's only one motel... nice... a bit rustic... but they do have a/c (as I found out when I froze Brian out last summer...)

You'll have to tell John that there might be more vacancies at the state campground down the street... but you'll have to tell Dennis and Angie to move the RV over a bit... ;)

Haha....John and I would find a hotel....maybe not close, but he would rather drive and be comfortable.

You would not catch either one of us at a campground. We tried that for our first anniversary and have been in hotels since. We don't even like bed and breakfasts. ROOM SERVICE, MAID SERVICE, POOLS, MOVIES ON DEMAND....sometimes with an ocean.....that's our idea of camping.:laughing:

Michelle, are we picking you and Barbara up at your brothers on black friday to go see Deborah in Jersey City? Or are you driving to Jersey City and we're meeting you both there? Just wanted to firm up plans.

Maid Service... maybe... :rotfl:

Pool??? That big thing is called a lake... :lmao:

Movies on Demand??? You're getting very demanding... how about a campfire under the stars... :thumbsup2

we'll meet you there... I can get there from the turnpike I imagine...
