I do not think it is totally, or maybe even a little bit based on exposure. Our boys started going to WDW when they were little. They tried rides that they were the right height for and if they did not like something we did not push them to do it again. We asked if they wanted to and we accepted NO as an answer.

I think some people have brains that enjoy or even crave fast, jerky movements and they LOVE roller coasters.

Others have brains that are wired differently and for them the same experience is unpleasant.

I also think this can change as people age. Some people who hate such rides grow into liking them, like my boys.

Some people who like them as kids grow into not liking them, like me. The one and only time I was on California Screaming and the last time I was on Triceratops Spin I knew were my last rides. I found the experiences to be physically and mentally unpleasant.

I think the same thing can happen with events that startle people. I hate them. My heart races and it is very unpleasant. After the event is over I do not remember it as fun or silly. It is still very unpleasant.

I really do think it has to do with how our brains are wired.
.

I agree. We seek thrill. It can be a bad thing.

Depending on timing we might take you to a Canadian Football Game as our season just gets started near the beginning of July.

And yes we can probably do a geocache - cause that is such a "Canadian" thing. You know using millions of dollars of US technology to find tupperware in the woods. And the first one was placed in the US.

I know it isn't a Canadian thing. We just haven't taken the time to do it. I'm trying to find something different for the kids to do so they don't completely hate driving so far. I mean you don't have Disney ;) Actually, the girl scouts are thinking of doing it. But since I'm the leader I could totally post pone it.

So Gaylean, who do we have to root for in the Superbowl? I think I'll root for whoever Jerry is taking. Its his house, and hes in a little better shape than me!

Don't worry about him....the Raiders aren't playing!

You agree with what??? Whats so bad about seeking out the thrills in life!???

Well I like thrill but she is right about the kids not wanting too. But I don't think I've ever heard of a mother making her kids seek out thrill. I did see a dad who wanted to sell his daughter for drugs. It was on Life time ;)

Wow... that's like staying at my brothers house... May I suggest an old fashioned set of Rabbit ears with some tin foil on them??? At least you might get PBS... :confused3
Guess what. Our local PBS station here was the first to go digital, so now I can't get it any more. :guilty: We were bumming today when we couldn't watch our usual Sunday morning PBS shows. Thomas the Tank Engine, Curious George, Bob the Builder, etc. :sad2:

:hug::hug::hug:

Great, Tyler will probably love it too. :goodvibes Yup, he has a dog at his dad's. It's an Akita. Beautiful dog, super friendly. I just love him! They got him just over a year and a half ago.[/COLO

I hope you're feeling better today!

SHE'S BACK!!! :cool1: :cool1:

So, I am giving Pain in the Butt advice to the wrong person! So, the advice goes for you too! Google sciatica and DO those stretches!!!!!!!!!!!

:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

Ohhh but Connie.. .I love my pain in the butt... she's so much fun!!!

I swim! Just not when other people are around to see me dog paddle!!!

in a speedo... :sad2:

which Toby are you guys talking about?

shannon's Toby... ::yes::

OK thought it was an actor. And I say Tim trumps Toby any day of the week.

Ok so who is Jon taking?

Jon went to mow the lawn during the first game and let the kids watch Wal-E during the second. He likes good games :confused3 and he is a Browns fan. He is sleeping so I know nothing about the Super Bowl pick. He told me earlier that he plans to use all his points on martinis :confused3

And the second part of your post has what to do with kids being able to seek a thrill on "rides"????

So my buddy doesn't get to watch much football does he!??? Sorry Jon, couldnt resist!

Start brushing up on your Edwardian etiquette now.

:joker: :joker: :joker: Hmmm, I think you're serious?:scared1:

Kathe,

Do you use a snow blower or do you hand shovel?

I don't have a snow blower and my very achy back and knees tonight are proof!

As you all can probably tell, I'm back from my Sunday morning work.

I was very pleased because my attendance numbers are really up. I had about 100 paid members between the 3 meetings.

I guess this means we can go on vacation this year, PLUS Sukie will get to eat while he's on vacation. I won't have to have him steal scraps from other tables.

I also lost 1.6 pounds, which put me in a really good mood.

In addition, some members returned that I have not seen since early December. They are members who I really liked, so it made the meeting fun. (Not that there are members who I don't like, I like all of my members ... to varying degrees).

It is a balmy 19F here in Chicago, or put another way, 36 degrees higher than it was on Friday.

I think we may go to Costco, just to get out of the house. I'm just a little gun shy since the accident last Saturday and the near accident last Sunday.

Life is so sad. We are resorting to shopping for toilet paper and razor blades for entertainment.

I suppose it could always be worse. I could be wasting my life away hanging out on a DIS tread ... Oh wait. I already do that.

Sounds like you've had a good start to your day Ian :thumbsup2

I missed the last few pages of the last thread but I know there were some meets being discussed.

We don't know our plans yet but we may be PA the first weekend in May. So please plan meets and if we're available (and restaurant can still fit us in) we will definitely come but if not I don't want to hold anyone up with making reservations, etc.

It will depend on a conference Darrell might be going to - work related. If he doesn't go we're going to PA the last full week of April - if he does go then it will be the last weekend of April thru the first weekend in May.

Oh - and we will definitely by at WDW on May 20th for the day - my birthday.

I'll miss your birthday Lisa. I'm heading home on the 18th. It sounds like a weekend might be best for everyone. I'm only there for one weekend. What does everyone think, would Sat May 16th or Sunday May 17th work?

Now I have to go to DUBLIN :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I'm impressed. There aren't too many other women I know that will drink a dark beer. Actually you may be the only one.

OK so now I know two women. Anyone else?

Make it three :drinking1

Robbie Burns is a Scottish Poet. Robbie Burns Night is celebrating his birthday on January 25th.

It is basically a second national holiday in Scotland.

There is a big feast and dance. During the meal there are several "formalities" that must be observed. And of course, Haggis is served.

There is the Welcoming speech by the host, followed by the Selkirk Grace and the bringing in the of Haggis (usually led by bagpipes). There is a speech given to the haggis then the supper begins. Then there are speeches to the monarchy, a speech to Burns and a speech to Lassies (which is usually quite comical) and then there is the reply to the speech to the Lassies (usually quite comical as well). A few more toasts and speeches and then it is ended with dancing.

We are going to one on Jan 23rd. I used to belong to the Sons of Scotland Benevolent Society so went to a few of them in the past.

They are usually good fun. This will be the first one that I have gone to that is family friendly so it will be the girls' first one. We thought it would be fun to go out for dinner and dancing as a family as that is a rare item up here. not many are family friendly.

I did find this one through google. Not sure if it is close to you or not.

I'll be celebrating Jan 25th too. Here we call it my dad's birthday :rotfl2:

Kathe

Winnipeg is really cold. It is right in the middle of the country and is in the prairies. It gets quite the wind and has nothing to protect it. Portage and Main (a cross street in downtown Winnipeg) is considered to be the windiest corner in Canada.

I was there in November and it was too cold for my tastes. At -40 fahrenheit and celsius are both the same.

Would you know Winnipeg? Well you might if you know Bachman-Turner-Overdrive (BTO). They are from Winnipeg. Takin' Care of Business or perhaps You ain't seen nothing yet

-51c is -60F.

Do you really think it gets that cold in Winnipeg? Isn't that a bit unlikely? The mean temperature in Antarctica is -56F.

I checked and the temperature today was 28F with a low of -1F.

He might have been pulling Connie's leg.

So my buddy doesn't get to watch much football does he!??? Sorry Jon, couldnt resist!

No I would have rather him been watching TV than on the computer. He loves that thing he sent you to join. I don't know what it is but he'd rather do that than watch real football.
