I am so tired. Dance is over for all of 2 weeks before we start up next year.

I have a hugh empty hole in my heart. I feel like I am getting so old and the kids are out growing me.....

Oh I would take her in one second flat....so Nan better not offer unless she really means it. My kids say I collect kids!!

Now I can't sleep, it is 1:40am here....

Oh Lisa,
I hope you're asleep by now.

I can't speak from personal experience since I didn't have any kids. My observation is that this is one of life's most difficult transitions.

But then there's my sister and brother-in-law who moved to a 2 bdrm cabin from their 3500 sq ft home so the kids couldn't come back! But guess what--now that they have grandkids, they regret getting rid of the big house. And...every one of their 4 kids has, at some point, come back and lived with them--WITH their spouses! One couple is there right now! They're living in a travel trailer parked on their property!

I'm speaking about it lightly (everything I said is true)--at the same time, my sis had, and still is having a challenge with transitioning from mom of 4 kids to (as she puts it) this "new season" in her life.

Here's how my Order of the Ditch certificate turned out. I just bought a ready-made frame at Michael's. I got it signed by Capt. Thord and the characters.

Framed Cruise Stuff

I said I would post photos of the stuff from the cruise I got framed.

First is the Ducky lithograph.

I'm not sure it photographed well but it is double framed. There is a think blue metal frame inside of the black frame.

Then it was mounted with a double matte, a teal/aqua blue matt with a white matte laid over it. The combination of the blues really makes the print "pop."

This is the pin set. It was framed with a blue wood frame, the grain of the frame shows through. In this photo the frame looks almost black, but is is really an indigo blue. It really makes the pins "pop."

I love them Ian. That is a great idea for framing the Ducky. We don't have the pins, just the empty picture!!! We do have an Order of the ditch though.

Home Sweet Home, A Tour of Lincoln Square

OK, so I had too much time on my hands this weekend. Yesterday I went out and did a photo tour of our neighborhood, Lincoln Square.

As I have said before, I have come to realize that we live in a much more urban area that others here on the board (you probably can't get much more urban).

So, camera in hand, I set out to do a "photo essay."

It was actually quite an interesting exercise, since I tend not to notice much around here. It caused me to look at where we live with fresh eyes.

I had to walk huge distances for this photo essay.

The photographs were all taken in about a 3 block stretch from our house --- I walked all of 1 block south of our house and then 3 blocks north of our house, however, who am I to complain?

We live in Lincoln Square, which is an old German Neighborhood (http://lincolnsquare.org/document/guide_history.php).

So, without further ado, here is a link to the photo tour, I was even particularly industrious and wrote captions for all of the photos:

I really enjoyed your tour Ian. We both love city stays and think that looks a great place to visit as well as live. Amazing how places change over the years as society changes.

:rotfl2: Gee, were you looking for somebody to talk to?! :rotfl: I wish I'd been around to chat with you. :goodvibes

I was - look how long it was yesterday with nobody to play with!!!:rotfl2:

I hate to see this wonderful day come to an end. It was SO beautiful outside today! Warm, but not hot. After church, we played on Tyler's playset, then did yardwork for quite some time. He was a big help getting branches from the back yard up to the road for pickup. I meant to mow the abandoned house front yard because it's an eyesore, but the bees were too bad. So we took a break for lunch, did laundry, went to the Michigan Historical Museum, went to the public library (where he for some reason chose a book on nuclear waste....yuck), came home for dinner and enjoying the beautiful weather in our front yard. :goodvibes I've been hanging here catching up with posts while Tyler's been playing with firetrucks & ambulances & rescuing people. But now it's time to read his bedtime book because he's supposed to be asleep now. Oh well......so we'll have a struggle to get up on time in the morning....it's worth it for such a great day! :thumbsup2

You sound to have had a perfect day together there Holly.

Oh Lisa, don't be sad. It is just the beginning of a different phase of life and just as enjoyable. We've had a great time since the children left home. Your 2 youngest haven't gone yet, and will continue to need you all their lives.

It has been a lovely day so far today but looks a little cloudy now. Feels so much better than yesterday. I'm sure I was meant to live somewhere warm.:lmao:

Glad you had a nice day yesterday Deborah. It was soooo windy here. We still have sunshine at the moment and it is warm.:cool1:

Those turned out beautifully. We are waiting til after the move to frame ours.

Did you insert the pins into the board before you had it framed or did they do it there?

I inserted the pins myself. The frame is just a normal deep frame, but not a shadow box. The framer thought that a shadow box was unnecessary and added unnecessary expense.

In the final mounting the pin backings were removed and there is acid free foam board on the back into which the pins are ultimately inserted.

You can't really see it in the photo, but the frame is wood and is a deep indigo blue.

The lithograph is double framed. There is a thin teal/aqua frame inserted in the black outer frame. It is also double mounted with a white matte on top of a teal/aqua matte.

Another work week.

This is going to be a sort of short week because Friday afternoon is our company picnic, although due to deadlines I may not be able to go, which doesn't bother me too much, because at least the office will be empty and quiet.

It will hopefully be an uneventful week.

Sukie and I have taken to running some errands, like grocery shopping on week nights to leave our weekends more open.

So, I guess I'd better get in gear, pour my coffee into my travel mug and head out the the bus stop.

can we still order the ditch certificate?

Ian - love the photos...mine are all on my dining room table, need to get frames...do you happen to know the sizes?

You can olrder the Order of the Ditch certificate at any time. We left the Captain's name empty and got him to sign it, so you will just give those details and they will print it.

I think it is great for the money. I got the dressed mermaids, but i think Monica and Deborah got naked ones!!:)

I wish you'd quit saying that!!!!:badpc:

Sorry Cherie, here's my guy getting me through this painful process. I've never been so anxious to get back to work.

Now here is the sign I have posted next to him:

A painting by Victoria Montesinos.

These are my motivations to get my massive reorganization done on both work and home.

A word about video games.

PS - what sort of scores have people been able to get hula hooping on the Wii Fit? I can't seem to break 270

hula hoop or super hoop? hula hoop I am at 225 and super hoop at 385 or something like that.

Ian:

Wilson and Molly are completely out of their minds because I keep telling them all of our cruiser OLD friends have Wii (& we don't)

Wilson says "Ian please send us a Wii, my mom is too mean to buy us one"

Molly says "It's no fair the DISers and everyone in my life has a Wii except for me"

Would anyone like to have Molly & Wilson to train them on your Wii for the summer???

::cop: Paul has been against the Wii since last Xmas. He doesn't want the kids on tv anymore than they allready are.

:stir: I'm with Ian I think it's better to watch and play than watch and sit and eat potatoe chips.

:wizard: We are getting a Wii this summer, just not sure when....it will be attached to some kind of reward for them. Now what do we want them to do all summer....I've got it!!!! NO FIGHTING!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Nan...you could always bring them up here so they could play ours! :thumbsup2

One more thing.....when we were at the museum today, the gift shop had 4 or 5 sculptures by this Junkyard Dog guy from Kentucky who recycles scrap metal to make yard sculptures. I fell in love with this peacock and SO want it for my yard! http://www.yardstuff.mobi/YB-B34.htm

Tyler thinks I'm nuts and told me it's really ugly. :rotfl2: Well, yeah, but it's ugly in a cute way!

We have a really annoying one that has taken up home in our yard....would you like me to send him to Michigan? He can wake you up all morning with his LOUD screams!

Ok, I logged on this am to find I am waaaaay behind. I went back a few pages, but didn't go back to page 4 or 5 where I last left off. Maybe will do that later if I have a chance.
Hope everyone had a great weekend. We had a beautiful one here....warm weather finally.
Yesterday we went shopping and then came home with 7 blueberry bushes, 2 cherry trees and 1 nectarine tree....to add to our 2 apple trees and 2 pear trees. My poor arms will never be the same...I swear people bury rocks in my yard every time I go to plant something....UGH! Our soil is so tough you need to dig holes using a pick axe not a shovel! But, next summer when we have lots of fruit, it will be great. We just need to get the raspberry plants from the IL's and our fruit portion will be done for now.
